Beware of trading scammers!

A subreddit for anything related to games (but not sports). "Related" means that posts must contain gaming-related content in the link/post body, not just a "forced" connection via the title or a caption added to the content.

"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

If Zelda was a repost...

Why does everyone use this site and not emulators?

Emulator are better because you don't have to write down stupid codes. I mean save codes? What is this? The stone age?

[–]elusiveff 2 points3 points ago

I like not having to download an emulator, and then go find a ROM. All while being assaulted with popups and potential malware. Plus they have a ton of choices. It would take forever to download all that variety.

[–]Probable_Foreigner -4 points-3 points ago

It takes 20 seconds to find and get a ROM. But you will lose a lot of time looking for your save codes or having to do the game again because you lost the code.

[–]elusiveff 2 points3 points ago

Probably more like a couple minutes. Most ROM sites make you wait to watch an advertisement or make you enter captcha. Meanwhile, you copy the savecode into notepad and you're done.

Downloadable emulators have their strong points, but I just prefer this online one :P

[–]zoidd -4 points-3 points ago

they have this new invention called torrents.

[–]NazzerDawk 1 point2 points ago

MY WAY TO PLAY CLASSIC GAMES IS BETTER THAN YOUR WAY.

[–]Probable_Foreigner -4 points-3 points ago

Ok, but what if you want to do multiplayer?

[–]elusiveff 2 points3 points ago

I think the original console would be best for that. For games like Zelda though, a solo journey is all you need.

[–]BreadstickNinja -3 points-2 points ago

Just tested. Timed at 27 seconds.

[–]marioIsDead -1 points0 points ago

But I had not seen it anyway. Why click it and waste your time complaining?

[–]kasminova 3 points4 points ago

If that was realistic where would he put that giant rupee? Up his ass?

Can someone explain why these old games were so fun to play, and new ones like CoD that have way better graphics just don't bring the same amount of enjoyment.

To this day it doesn't make sense to me why I would rather play super smash bros than Battlefield 3.

[–]erchamion 3 points4 points ago

Nostalgia.

[–]ReverendVoice 1 point2 points ago

Since your two examples of good games are COD and Battlefield 3, I feel I can smugly ignore your question.

[–]mylogicisducks 1 point2 points ago

I think it's a complex issue, but somewhat universal. Some say it's just nostalgia, but I think formative gaming experiences do play a big role in the way we look back at everything, and thus we tend to selectively remember the games we loved the most, and there's really no way that modern experiences can stand up to that.

Beyond that, I think there's a tendency to try and recapture the youthful joy of those formative experiences, and we tend to fixate nostalgically on the relatively few experiences since that were able to capture some of that feeling.

But that's just my thought.

[–]capsrockbutton 0 points1 point ago

What's more fun to watch? Duck Tales or Syriana?

[–]daman345 0 points1 point ago

Because you are comparing the best of old and the lowest common denominator in the new

[–]lolpancakeslol 0 points1 point ago

Nostalgia goggles, dude. I grew up with a genesis so I didn't play a Link to the Past. My fiancee convinced me to try it and I couldn't play it for more than a few minutes without getting bored.

[–]VantasKarkat 4 points5 points ago

If that pic were realistic, the boomerang wouldn't be going upriver.

[–]Aoeeoaaoeeoa 2 points3 points ago

Maybe it's returning to where it came from (as boomerangs do,) the waterfall of wishing?

[–]LukaCola 0 points1 point ago

That's not a magic boomerang, the magic boomerang was red.

[–]Beso0621 0 points1 point ago

I also doubt that he would have 20 hearts.

Fw:fw:fw:fw:fw: If Zelda was realistic

[–]plumwhatyo -1 points0 points ago

I like that in this situation link is pretty much maxed out

[–]The_sweeps -1 points0 points ago

Remember, the number of rupees use to equal the number of arrows. Anything is possible in Hyrule.

[–]MegaMoule 0 points1 point ago

If that pic was realistic, Link would have the red tunic.

[–]GGBVanix 1 point2 points ago

If Zelda was realistic, wouldn't there be regenerating health?

[–]surrealasm_atwork 0 points1 point ago

Actually, Bushmen (who invented the boomerang) can use it to hit small game on the ground, and have it return to them.

I used to play with a boomerang quite a bit, and I still remember this one throw I had where the thing went out, and at the apex of the tear-drop it bounced off the ground, and then successfully went airborn again and returned to me.

[–]Goldreaver 0 points1 point ago

[–]dassub 0 points1 point ago

Gotta use the magical boomerang (red one) to kill that realistic behavior.

[–]SlurmNator -2 points-1 points ago

I wanted link to jump into the water so badly
