Edit: To the kids downvoting me - you just don't get it. You actually make me look at myself and go "What the fuck am I doing fraternizing with these little shits? Either they don't belong here, or I don't"

I know that there are some more mature saplings who DON'T make these kinds of posts - so it's not a "kid thing". It's just so fucking irritating to read about your moms and Dad's that are OMG SO cool/lame/fundie/etc. Then of course the comments turn into a cesspool of 15-19 year olds who talk about how "brainwashed" their parents are, and have this entitled/condescending air about themselves. They just didn't GET the Union! Omg!?

Guess what? I am a parent who smokes weed, and if I found out my 15 year old is wake-n-baking / going to school stoned / smoking daily I would be FUCKING PISSED. The reason I won't tell my children that I smoke is they aren't mature enough to make an educated decision about this, and the last thing I would want them to do is think that because Dad smokes, that it's ok to be a burnout.

Before any of you can chime in, this isn't an age thing. Right now you feel like you know everything and adults are stupid. All of us were like this at some point, but it's a very dangerous place to be. The humility that comes with age, and realizing that life doesn't owe you anything is a big part of maturing...that is the point where I feel most are ready to make these decisions.

When my kids reach that point (it could be 16, it could be 22) I'll smoke with them. They'll be surprised as hell that I do, but until then they will just assume their Dad is a dorky engineer with bad taste in music.

Can't disagree with ya, man, but as an elder tree myself (25) I don't mind the kids. I think 16, 17 is perfectly reasonable for someone to start smoking, but you're right that maturity is the factor above all else. Many kids that age probably aren't mature enough to handle it. I started smoking when I was 23 so it's hard for me to say (I was very anti-drug in high school so it was never going to happen for me), but it's definitely a case-by-case basis.

I actually agree, but I think (like it is the case in some/most states with alcohol) kids a couple years younger should be allowed under parental supervision. I know some states let you drink with your parents or other "authority figures" (although I don't know the age limits in that case)

I really think you need to relax man. This is the internet, stop treating it like it's the world and it's such serious business. I'm 18. I pay rent to my parents to live in their house. I own my own car, and commute to college. It's people like you who genuinely ruin trees in my opinion. If something is funny and I wanna post it here, I'm going to. Keep your hate to yourself man. If you don't like how /trees is then by all means go to a different subreddit. But I believe trees is a subreddit for EVERYONE. Not just you. It isn't going to tailor itself to be exactly what you want it to be. If you don't like a post, downvote and MOVE ON. Nobody is begging you to hang around.

Trees has changed so much recently and it's not for the better. Everyone just needs to let it be what it is. Theres never going to be a time where kids who are 15 or 16 aren't gonna be on here posting. Theres never going to be a time where people aren't gonna get high and post things they think are funny. So get used to it.

I don't wanna sound like a dick but when I first came to trees it was in my opinion the nicest community out there. But now you can't go to a single thread without someone being a dick and putting others down. It's just getting old. I appreciate everything you have said and in many ways agree with you, but quit putting others down for what they do just because you don't agree with it.

End rant. Go ahead and downvote me into oblivion now.

There is nothing intense or passionate about my feelings towards you, or this post. It's funny to me that you use the word hate, because it's a strong ass word. It's something an overdramatic child would use. Talk to a rape victim, you will see what hate looks like.

What I commented was the truth, and thats why people agreed with it. I didn't intend for you to take it personally, it wasn't even directed towards you. Looking through your comment history, you seem like an alright guy.

I (and many others) are tired of hearing kids talk about getting busted / their moms/dads reaction when they found out they smoke.

If me and all the other older guys here posted all the cute things our kids do, or how much having a prostate exam sucks (and got upvoted to the top) you would have the same reaction as us. WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED HERE - I DO NOT CARE ABOUT PROSTATE EXAMS.

It's not even the crappy stories about getting caught toking by the parents, it's the attitude the younger guys have in the comments. Disrespectful, unappreciative and a huge circlejerk about how stupid the parents are. As a parent when you read that, you want to slap them upside the head.

Alright. To be honest, I'm sorry. I did honestly take it personally and I shouldn't have because I had no way to know it was completely directed at me. On the opposite end of the spectrum though, those are things that kids today have to deal with. I know a lot of kids turn to trees as a place for advice from people like you who have grown up and are able to handle things with a bit of maturity. Granted some of the posts are aggravating and shouldn't be there because they're the exact same thing every single day. You're right in that aspect. I just don't know.

I'm sorry for coming at you in the manner I did. It's easy to act disrespectful over the internet and I shouldn't have. As a strongly opinionated ent, I guess I just need to step back and take my own advice and realize that not everybody's opinion is the same as mine - just as I said to you.

I tried to make the transition the other day, but Eldertrees doesn't have the userbase /trees does. So a lot less content, and people seem a to take "maturity" to mean "srs bsnss". So don't get your hopes too high, yet.
