CSI time.

Judging from the body and lights it's probably a Nissan S13 coupe.

They are known as the 240sx in North America, but they are driving on the left side so it's the 200sx. Also known as the Silvia.

Also, this is drifting and the Silvia s chassis family accounts for like 70% of cars ever drifted. They're great cars.

Naa. Skylines always had circle tail lights and they are AWD. Some people convert them to RWD though.

I'm on my desktop so I can see it better now. I think it's a Silvia s15 judging by the glimpse of the front bumper you get as it passes under the light towards the end of the gif. Front end swaps between the generations of Silvias are common though.

I'm leaning more towards s14 or s15 than the s13 coupe just because of how curvy it is.

Sorry, I'm in the US. The only Skyline I've seen in the wild was a R35 GTR. RX-7 is very likely. I didn't even think about the RX-7. Shame on me for being subconsciously racist against non Nissans.

so if this were a post of a football player making an incredibly athletic catch... or Michael Jordan/Barry Sanders reducing someone to their knees with an ankle breaking move... would that be woahdude appropriate? The feat of what appears to be a professional doing something professionals do is not something I consider mesmerizing. Amazing, sure. Mind boggling, no. I can appreciate this gif as much as anyone here, but I don't think it fits the traditional mold of woahdude. Just my opinion though.

Good opinion. (But) People forget this is a stoner subreddit. Which means people are smoking and looking at these links. I can look at a very very simple fruit picture for hours if it gives me ideas etc. This link surely qualifies as one. And also I (and other mods) won't remove anything if there is no report for these kinds of in-between submissions...

EDIT: For those who are wondering what this makes me think: I imagined i was in that car and it made me feel that way. Again, stoner subreddit, right???

So if something like this is reported you will remove it? It seems that we are in agreement when we say that this is a large subreddit populated by a variety of people with a variety of interests - if you remove every "in-between submission" (how are you even defining that btw?) you'll end up reducing this subreddit to /r/Psychedelic.

As you can see I didn't remove it. (it has been liked by over 700 people.) I am sure I wouldn't remove it if it had 1 - 2 reports. (it currently has) But if it was like 10 upvotes and 4 reports I wouldn't hesitate (of course I would read the comments too.) You know, I (we) don't remove post if they are properly submitted (tag, content, title) even if the content is not really a woahdude content. To me, there are too many posts here that need to be removed but I (we) let them stay because people upvoted so means some liked. If you read the comments of low-voted submission, you can see my personal opinions about those links. I just tell them if it is or not a woahdude material.

PS: I use the reports to see what's going on in comments, not to use them to remove the submission... I follow the subreddit daily and click all the links to filter them. (including the comments.)

Ok I was just making sure that I understood the meaning of your comment. This obviously isn't the first time we've talking about "in-between" comment but again - there are lots of types of people who enjoy many different types of mind-altering substances and they will all have different content that they consider "woahdude-worthy" and all I'm trying to do is bring a variety of content to that variety interests within the subscriber base.

YES! Just because you as an individual don't consider one image appealing doesn't mean other won't as well. Human beings come in a variety of packaging with a variety of interests - an image doesn't have to be stereotypically "psychedelic" for someone to say "...woah...".

I think it's funny that no matter what I post someone will find something to complain about.

Really? Maybe not professional in the sense that they get paid for this skill.. but if you don't think that driver has had years of practice at stunts like that, you'd be sorely mistaken I believe. So again, while an amazing feat, it doesn't take much to wrap my brain around what I'm seeing... which in my mind is and should be the essence of content on r/woahdude.

Just out of curiosity, is drifting really of any benefit when racing (other than to look relatively cool)? Wouldn't you get better performance when all the tires fully in contact with the ground?

Depends. On a large, banked turn, it is more beneficial to keep straight (more power to the ground)

On a flat, short turn, you can simply fly through the corner sideways instead of slowing down to a near stop in order to turn normally.

I still don't know. In all my experience in (virtual) auto racing, any time you start to slip you're wasting time. Even in a tight turn, you go to the outside, brake hard into the apex, then accelerate towards the outside. It doesn't matter how tight the turn, the general shape should usually look something like this.

However, that's (mostly) using rear-wheel drive vehicles. With front-wheel drive, it may not matter as much, as long as the front wheels maintain traction. Still, I think you're wasting time sliding sideways (and destroying your tires).

In my opinion as well, this post doesn't meet all of the critiques to be in r/whoadude, but what the driver did is truly amazing and as you can see, many people appreciate the post. Maybe widening the horizon of oneself isn't a bad idea sometimes.

My car equals the car c4ntr34dth15 described in another comment and I consider myself as a not-so-bad drifter, but I would never attempt to drift this road like this, because of a simple lack of skills.
