Atheism is either lacking belief in a god(s) or a belief that there is no god(s) (the latter is called anti-theism, but is still a kind of atheism). Given the fact that atheists either don't believe in god(s) or believe that god(s) don't exist, any claim that "an atheist is his own god" is stupid and baseless.

There are many powers higher than yours, just not supernatural ones. If you don't believe in a higher power at all, you ARE making yourself "God", as there is nobody more powerful than yourself in your own mind, just as there is nobody more powerful than Jesus to Christians.

It makes a tiny bit of sense, You decide what is right and wrong for you to do, You decide what to think, what to trust an what to believe and you decide who to care for, judge or feel pity for.

If there is no one controlling or creating you, that makes you your very own creator.

It's kind of a hippie/spiritual way to approach atheism I guess.

Well it makes sense because you do watch everything you do. You are with yourself all the time. You know yourself better than anyone else could hope to. I'm taking the term "gods" to mean someone who is in charge. We are in charge of ourselves so it makes sense to me.
