While I admire the man for what he did for martial arts, I do believe stories about him tend to be exaggerated sometimes.

For instance, I honestly don't think that he could make a 300 lbs heavybag slap against the ceiling with a sidekick. He had a hell of lot of force behind it, but even with his fantastic speed, the amount of power one would have to generate would have to be absolutely ridiculous, especially for a man weighing between 135-150 lbs. There's a video of him side kicking an 80 pound bag here at the 1:05 mark. He kicks it fairly hard but it doesn't come close to slapping the ceiling.

There's no doubt that he was "tremendously athletic", as Gene LeBell described him, but he's not the invincible legendary warrior that a lot of people make him out to be.

i like how at :52 you can see that even Bruce Lee sometimes hit targets a little off the mark.

I once heard an interesting discussion that mentioned that the list of crazy physical feats were often rumors spread by close friends of his. He mythologized his own abilities because being a Chinese star in America he needed to market himself effectively.

Chuck actually beat him in a sparring match, though it was all stand up.

No, source because if you make a claim about something that's not widely known, people want to know where you get your information from. You need to relax mate, why do u hate Bruce Lee so much?

[–]DejaBooGo Ju & et. all 0 points1 point ago

It's not hate for Bruce at all, it's history of MA and the community that gives an unvetted man a pass and then requires others a source.

TL;DR Asian dudes have gotten a pass in MA for far too long my friend.

Just heresay from within the original JKD circle. It's not like they ever filmed their sparring matches and Chuck won't comment on it.

Fair enough mate, I haven't heard about it before. Just curious as to where it came from.
