Who brings their dog to class?

[–]joe100su 183 points184 points ago

The seeing-eye dog trainers.

[–]Fuqwon 94 points95 points ago

Most service dogs in training, even puppies, wear some sort of vest or collar to identify themselves.

[–]biggmclargehuge 31 points32 points ago

just like freshmen

[–]jkiz 27 points28 points ago

Depends on the school, I suppose. As others have mentioned on this thread, this pup is probably a service dog in training. My college had a group that trained service dogs, and they rarely wore anything. But everyone (professors, students, etc) was fully aware of why they were there. The trainer did have to carry an ID card signifying they were part of the program, should anyone unfamiliar inquire.

[–]ScornMac 46 points47 points ago

OR...it's just someone bringing their dog to class for karma.

[–]ThikSkinnd 15 points16 points ago

No one 'round these parts would do something purely for karma. Thats preposterous.

[–]egnaro2007 3 points4 points ago

Cw post on long island allows dogs all over campus and inside all buildings

[–]Panjab -2 points-1 points ago

I went there 2 years ago for pre-pharm. I've never seen a dog on campus. There was this one cat though, that would randomly roam the campus.

[–]egnaro2007 -1 points0 points ago

If you read the handbook, one of the founders made a rule for the land donation that digs be allowed on all the grounds I believe

[–]gwarsh41 14 points15 points ago

False, seeing eye dogs are only trained the basics as a puppy. (how to eat sleep and poop on a someone else's schedule) Once they are about a year old, they will begin actual training. As the person raising the guide dog, what you can and cannot do is pretty strict.

Source: I raised guide dogs for Guide dogs of Texas for about 4 years.

[–]chronox21 27 points28 points ago

I'm 21 and I still haven't learned to poop on someone else's schedule? Do I have to steal it out of their backpacks first, or just jump on their back and go for it?

[–]gwarsh41 2 points3 points ago

You have to wait until they lay it out on the floor and give you the command to poop on their schedule.

[–]silverwolf761 6 points7 points ago

Must depend on location then, because I see PLENTY of puppy seeing-eye-dogs on campus and in class

[–]gwarsh41 0 points1 point ago

Different companies, different policies. I guess some are more strict than others.

[–]ballsoup 3 points4 points ago

Right, but as a puppy raiser, you take them everywhere you can.

[–]gwarsh41 1 point2 points ago

Once they hit a certain age, we would take them to specific locations with a certified trainer. We were not to bring the puppy to places like school and the movies. We were not to take the puppy out like that without approval from the trainer either.

[–]ballsoup 2 points3 points ago

Huh. What organization were you with? Ours was different.

[–]gwarsh41 2 points3 points ago

Guide Dogs of Texas. They were pretty strict about the dog in the public. They wanted a trainer with them at all times. They did not want people to raise the dogs with commands they did not use. We had specific commands for the puppy.

[–]ballsoup 2 points3 points ago

I helped do a couple with Canine Companions for Independence. We had the specific commands but the puppies had vests and they encouraged us to get them out and take them everywhere. Their success rate is only 30% though, so i don't know what that shows. It's interesting to hear about the different groups.

[–]gwarsh41 0 points1 point ago

I think Guide dogs of texas was about 30% too. The failure dogs were sold to different companies to help pay for the guide dog organization. If the puppy you raised failed, you could have the dog for free too.

My parents adopted one of the failure dogs that couldnt get a job anywhere else. She had a pretty short attention span and seemed to love sticker her nose in fire hand hills. One pup we raised became a border patrol dog, another was a search and rescue dog. Only 2 of the lot became guide dogs.

[–]ragem411 2 points3 points ago

I guess it depends on what organization the dog is being trained with.

I am raising my second guide dog right now.

Just a week ago I took her out with me to dinner. Dogs in training are allowed everywhere you're allowed to go. That way they get to socialize and have as many experiences as possible do they won't be stressed out when they go somewhere new.

[–]TkMyEyes_NotTheShirt 1 point2 points ago

You raised guide dogs for Guide dogs? So meta...

[–]dog_in_the_vent 0 points1 point ago

Also killing-eye dog trainers.

[–]Suddenly_Something 0 points1 point ago

I hate that shit. Not necessarily seeing eye dogs, but epilepsy detecting dogs. I don't like kindly asking someone if I can pet their dog and having them scold me for trying to kill them.

[–]kingssman 38 points39 points ago

Who brings their chick magnets to class

FTFY

[–]Phussorile 10 points11 points ago

There was this hot chick in one of my psych classes that brought her puppy a few times. There were only a few of us and the prof was pretty cool about it. Every single hand in that classroom came into contact with it at some point.

[–]cptncrnch 26 points27 points ago

Every single hand in that classroom came into contact with it at some point.

Giggity.

[–]Sirisian 18 points19 points ago

In my public speaking class in uni we had to bring in our favorite object. Anyway this blonde girl goes up to the front and was like "my favorite object is my dog" and reaches in her purse and pulls out one of those tiny toy dogs and sets it on the desk and it doesn't move the whole 5 minutes she talks. She then puts it back in her purse (which has air holes and a plastic window which you would only notice if you were staring at it for a while). Everyone in the class was like "was the dog here the whole hour while other people were presenting?" and she was like "oh yeah he sleeps a lot and he has a little bed in my purse". You had to be there, hilarious.

[–]yhelothere 4 points5 points ago

Who brings their notebook to class? It's distracting like hell.

IN MY OLD DAYS WE WROTE EVERYTHING DOWN ON PAPER OR COPIED NOTES!

[–]Queen___Bee 0 points1 point ago

For some reason, I find your comment ironic.

[–]yhelothere 5 points6 points ago

I've wrote the comment down on a paper and sent a fax to Reddit, believe me!

[–]Queen___Bee -1 points0 points ago

Boy/girl who missed the point...

[–]yhelothere 0 points1 point ago

I would appreciate If you'll correct my grammar-mistakes. I am a non-native English speaker/writer and it is sometimes hard to express myself. Thanks

[–]Queen___Bee 0 points1 point ago

Your grammar is semi-fine; I was referring to the notebook comment. You know, thin laptops are called notebooks nowadays, instead of just a pad of paper attached via spiral-thingy.

[–]yhelothere 0 points1 point ago

Ouuu okay, now I get it. It's already 4:20am here, time for sleep.

[–]FecalFunBunny 4 points5 points ago

If more people had brought puppies to class, I would have attended more.

[–]FlowerOfTheHeart 1 point2 points ago

One of my teachers brings her dog to class every time. It's a big dog who loves to jump up and lick people all over class. You'd be taking notes and suddenly she'd appear from behind and get your shoulder wet. Over time I learned to wear clothes that I don't like so much...and when it's not hot, throw over a water-resistant jacket.

[–]Berdiie 0 points1 point ago

There was an elderly lady who took a few courses each semester when I was in school. She said that people over a certain age (I can't remember off-hand what age she was anymore) only had to pay around $20 for a college course.

Every class she would bring her small white poodle with her. I asked her why the dog came with her being that it wasn't a seeing-eye dog or such. She said that she had been very sick for a long time and her husband bought her the dog to make her feel better while she was bed-ridden. The dog helped her immensely and she told it that if she survived her illness that she would bring it with her no matter where she went. She lived and the dog traveled with her everywhere.

I'm guessing everyone accepted it because she was pleasant and elderly.

[–]sumphatguy 0 points1 point ago

They didn't bring the dog. They turned into a dog to take a nap. Think about it; every minute in dog time is like seven minutes in human time. Much more efficient napping.

[–]i_like_salad 0 points1 point ago

Mothers who's children won't call them back because they're over bearing as fuck and put their dogs in strollers and somehow get an assistant-animal pass or something for it... At least that's what I've seen. /shrug

[–]deidru 0 points1 point ago

What school allows this? Every college (yep 3,plus my bfs) I've been too had a strict no animal policy. You cannot tell people's allergies, if the animal is gonna be disruptive and make a mess or if they'll bite someone. I've been an EMT long enough to know that if your cuddly pooch bites someone at school, you and the school will be sued by that person.

[–]ThatCrankyGuy 0 points1 point ago

Apple.. Apple... Apple... Apple......

Given that there are too many boobs in that class, I fear it may not be an engineering one.

[–]forshizzle38 -2 points-1 points ago

[–]squeeter 100 points101 points ago

TIL there are non-exam classes

[–]whatevers_clever 31 points32 points ago

you mean.. like.. every day that there isn't an exam scheduled?

oh.

yeah.

ForeverAgo IL.

[–]wanker_bob 6 points7 points ago

No, those are called sleep-ins.

[–]supahappyfuntime 4 points5 points ago

Yeah, WTF is a non-exam class? Ceramics?

[–]squeeter 17 points18 points ago

I bet even ceramics has a goddam exam. you have to make like a fucking awesome bowl or something

[–]ThePouchMan 3 points4 points ago

Fucking awesome bowl

[–]RinkuTheFirst 4 points5 points ago

In my experience, non-exam classes are the ones where there are no official exams, but there are major assignments that are as much a part of your grade as an exam would be. They're de-facto exams.

[–]meliaesc 5 points6 points ago

I thought OP meant just a normal class without a scheduled exam that day...

[–]bread_buddy 0 points1 point ago

The ones that are all projects and homeworks.

[–]TwoNine 0 points1 point ago

Ultimate blow-off class.

[–]jazzbraves9ersfan 76 points77 points ago

how the hell is this funny?

[–]erryday_IAm_rustling 19 points20 points ago

Did you ever have a teacher that had posters like this or this? It's that kind of funny.

[–]jamie1414 25 points26 points ago

So the not funny kind of funny.

[–]RETARD96 4 points5 points ago

no, it's the funny kind of not funny.

[–]trauma_queen 0 points1 point ago

I always wondered why teachers put those posters up. I think being around children might turn a screw loose in their head.

[–]kelloh2 0 points1 point ago

Teacher here. We think they're as goofy as the students do. It's just something fun to joke about, I guess (you might be right about having some screws loose..). We had a fight over who got the Garfield poster at the beginning of the year.

[–]depressed_batman 51 points52 points ago

[–]SlickTricks 64 points65 points ago

you spelled "parent" wrong.

[–]spyson 3 points4 points ago

He'll just have to deal with the mountains of vag he gets.

[–]RETARD96 2 points3 points ago

I could totally go for a mountain of vag right now.

[–]ftpguy 29 points30 points ago

I'm sure your parents will-

Oh right.

[–]Shutupcrime1337 6 points7 points ago

man nice chairs.

[–]soapman5 4 points5 points ago

Does he stay awake during the exam classes?

[–]bretttwarwick 8 points9 points ago

How else do you expect him to pass? You can't sleep through an exam and still get a good grade.

[–]Internet_Ghost 19 points20 points ago

What the hell is a non-exam class? Never had one of those in college.

[–]technocyte 42 points43 points ago

I think he means a particular day in class where there is no exam, not a course that has no exams ever. Though to be fair, I took it the same way you did at first.

[–]ThePegasi 4 points5 points ago

I'm from the UK, but plenty of my modules were 100% coursework, no exams. In my last year I didn't have a single exam, didn't even plan it that way when choosing my courses. It was pretty sweet.

But yeah, that's how I read the title too.

[–]thegreatgazoo 3 points4 points ago

Exactly. I even had exams in gym class.

[–]jon_titor 0 points1 point ago

I got a B in archery because I didn't prepare for and then fucked up the exam. :(

[–]gotlactose 3 points4 points ago

Perhaps a humanities class with only paper based assignments. Even as a STEM major, I've had a couple of them. Attendance is terrible, but then attendance is always terrible if the class is podcasted.

[–]Persius 1 point2 points ago

It's a day where you're just in class, like not taking a test. And I have actually had classes with no test and I learned more in those than any other.

[–]Canadave 0 points1 point ago

I had a few. Mostly upper-year seminar sort of courses, where a major paper or assignment replaced the final exam. I still paid attention, though, because in those sorts of courses it was usually interesting material.

[–]zeppelinfromled 0 points1 point ago

Really? I certainly did. They were usually in the humanities and they required papers instead of exams. I even had a couple of upper level chemistry seminars that didn't have exams.

[–]HarryPowers 1 point2 points ago

Thank you. I'd thought that would be the first comment.

[–]bread_buddy 0 points1 point ago

I've had a number of classes for which the grade was entirely homework and projects. In fact, I had two last semester. Maybe they're more common at higher levels.

[–]ZeroCool1 0 points1 point ago

What shit tier university do you go to?

[–]bread_buddy 1 point2 points ago

Almost got me.

[–]Roseysdaddy 123 points124 points ago

seriously, dont do this.

its disrespectful to your professor, your classmates and the dog. i have two small puppies right now, and they require a LOT of attention, attention that isnt being paid to the professor and is distracting those around you.

[–]m0nster6884 121 points122 points ago

I don't know about this school but at mine we have a seeing eye/autism dog program. Basically students get puppies for 8 months and they go everywhere with their trainers including on campus in hopes to get them used to crowds and the like.

[–]LascielCoin 33 points34 points ago

That's one of the best ideas I've ever heard! I'd love to be lent a puppy for a few months in college :o

[–]Syntexz 45 points46 points ago

I'm afraid I would get too attached to the dog, and would be devistated once it had to go to another home.

[–]RAW-BERRY 18 points19 points ago

Yup, couldn't do it.

[–]LascielCoin 2 points3 points ago

I'd probably get really sad too but I'd still love to have a puppy even for a little while. I have a dog at home and it's really hard living without him for most of the year, a puppy would surely make me feel better :)

[–]Fuqwon 9 points10 points ago

Most service dogs don't begin their hardcore training until they're almost full grown and around a year old.

It's very common for them to be fostered out for the first year of their life. The foster home is generally required to socialize the dog as well as teach basic commands.

If you want to get involved, there are lots of service organizations out there.

[–]LascielCoin 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the info, I'm from a small country and an even smaller town so I'm not sure if they have programs like this available to everyone but I'll definitely look into it :)

[–]yhelothere 0 points1 point ago

clever school

[–]Brashdoodle 3 points4 points ago

Not to mention it screams attention whore.

[–]Le_Karma_Whore 2 points3 points ago

seriously, don't do this

implying this is actually OP's dog

[–]chthonical 10 points11 points ago

That puppy reminds me of how I used to be in classes. I didn't mean to be disrespectful or anything. My brain just fogged up and shut down. Didn't matter if I had chugged coffee or an energy drink or anything. The minute I sat down in most classes everything just turned off. I still managed to get good grades until the mental breakdowns happened because I was still putting in the effort after the fact. The fogging out thing also happened when I was working, and happens every time I try to watch a movie. Should probably see a doctor about that.

[–]whimsical_pizza 1 point2 points ago

The exact same thing happens to me on some days. Maybe you have ADD. See a doctor!

[–]PolarisBears 1 point2 points ago

I just started my first year of college, and this is my biggest problem so far. I can sleep 7.5 - 8 hours, eat breakfast, and get some caffeine in the morning, but I'm still fuck-ass tired.

[–]parksuck 1 point2 points ago

[–]jon_titor -1 points0 points ago

Seriously? Someone had to make an app for counting in 90 minute intervals? And people's sleep cycles vary quite a bit; that's not going to be accurate for most people.

[–]parksuck 2 points3 points ago

Sorry, I was just trying to help.

[–]superior_mediocrity 6 points7 points ago

Dat nose...........

In the back, with the black shirt.

[–]mellow_musicfreak 1 point2 points ago

[–]bloodiedfencer 1 point2 points ago

you turn into a dog too?

[–]Brianjmarshall 1 point2 points ago

Someone needs a new top case...

[–]MusicMagi 2 points3 points ago

Money well spent

[–]Mang-Oh-Tea 2 points3 points ago

I'm allergic to dogs.

I mean, I could easily just move, but still, allergies. Dogs make my brain think I swallowed a pound of fur, which isn't something I'd look forward to in a class.

Would let seeing eye dogs and things of the like slide.

[–]HoDownMcAssClown 0 points1 point ago

Ya I get really sick from dogs too.

[–]Mang-Oh-Tea 0 points1 point ago

Sucks, cause dogs are so damned cute. cats too, of course.

[–]konyfan2012 1 point2 points ago

sorry, i'm not an arts student. what the fuck is a non-exam class?

[–]screwtrains -1 points0 points ago

I wish I could bring my pup to class..

[–]shane727 0 points1 point ago

What kind of school lets you bring your puppy to class. And what kind of puppy sleeps through every single one and doesnt cause a disruption!!!???? Tell me!

[–]violetwaterfall 0 points1 point ago

WAIT. Are you saying that you bring your puppy to class on the non-exam days, or are you just using a cute picture to say that you sleep in class when there's no exam?

[–]gjohns7 0 points1 point ago

turlington?

[–]SHITTY_LINK_PERIOD 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, i also let my dog do my work for me in non-exam classes. But, unlike yours, he doesn't fall asleep. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I hate you! That is the cutest puppy! I wish someone in my class would bring a puppy.

[–]Conchibiris 0 points1 point ago

[–]baconlover24 0 points1 point ago

I was so excited to learn there is an option for classes without exams. Then I realized this just meant the class of that day when there isn't an exam, not there will never be an exam.

[–]Cyprex 1 point2 points ago

Dam you cuteness. Dam you.

[–]dog_in_the_vent 1 point2 points ago

I, too, bring my puppy to every non-exam class.

[–]Lvl2PooShooter 0 points1 point ago

Stupid College Bitches....

[–]_CitizenSnips_ 0 points1 point ago

dont take a puppy into your lecture, are you so childish and retarded that you have to have a puppy with you all the time? Bad for the dog, bad for the people sitting around you. If this is for guide dog training or something then I guess its not so bad, but still if your at uni/college dont volunteer to do this shit. Every person around you who actually cares about learning will hate you. How much learning can you seriously do with a god damn puppy on your lap as well, guaranteed failure!

[–]TRBfurry -1 points0 points ago

so let me just clarify...you can sleep in non-exam classes? realization

[–]ddiieeggoo 0 points1 point ago

please stop abusing your dog

[–]stalkergonepublic 0 points1 point ago

Bring a puppy to class, surest way to get laid ever. Seriously, girls go wild over pups.

[–]Turbojugend27 1 point2 points ago

Oh what a surprise, a fucking dog owner that thinks everybody else wants their fucking dog around. Stop it.

[–]aesamattki 1 point2 points ago

Why did someone bring a puppy to a college class and why didn't the professor give them a five toe suppository out the door?

[–]mike91188 1 point2 points ago

[–]mike91188 -1 points0 points ago

That makes our dogs best friends.

[–]madsell 0 points1 point ago

you don't want to space out in a non-exam class, that means all the course credit comes from class work and papers.

[–]0311 0 points1 point ago

I believe OP meant, "every day that my class doesn't have an exam."

[–]madsell 0 points1 point ago

oh, well i suppose that makes sense if you do the readings. in most of my classes, every class is an exam class unless there's a discussion. COLLEGE!
