Reposts bother me less than people complaining about reposts or karma.

Imagine if reddit was exactly the same, but with no karma system. Still upvotes, downvotes, etc. But there is no karma. So many whiners would be silenced.

Here's my take on it and why I think reposts are harmful to the site while still being a service to redditors who haven't seen the original post.

Check OP: 10 day old account, x amount of link karma (through reposts) and 0 (ZERO) comment karma. Meaning, his/her only contribution to reddit has been to go through the treasure chest and regurgitate content. Granted, it's useful to folks who would otherwise miss those posts but when that is your only contribution, frankly it's poor form. As this behavior is repeated more and more often I can certainly understand why some people can't help but complain.

I agree that there are 2 sides to this coin. I see tons of reposts everyday. It is sometimes irritating. I have to keep reminding myself that the people upvoting are people who are seeing it for the first time.

I understand this guy's only job is to repost content (who knows why). Still, if he is even making a couple people smile or laugh then it is worth it.

Just remember that it's very easy to just downvote, click hide, and move on.

I would like to see what the reddit front page would look like if you only count the votes of people who have more than some amount of comment karma.
