4chan (moreover, /b/) is so often misread. A true user cares not at all about the opinions of others, especially those outside their 'circle.' Their designation as the bottom of the internet gives rise to a false perception that they wish to preserve that reputation through intentional means. Unfortunately, this perception spreads, and new users who are not initiated in the ways of not giving a fuck tend to pipe up with their idiotic, fabricated sentiments of "apartness" and "pride in difference." Thus, a newfag is born, serving only to perpetuate the cycle and spread the unending cancerous nemesis that is the twisted, unintended offspring of /b/.

Not too sure if we should be a part of this. Originally I found myself disliking 9gag due to the general consensus on Reddit that they were immature children and thieves, but after doing a bit of research and seeing the evidence provided by other Redditors, I found that this was more or less true. That being said, as much as I'd like to see them griefed, I believe we'd simply be giving them legitimacy as a community by recognizing them as a "threat." Personally, I think we should just continue to strive to be a more mature community that produces the stuff that may one day encourage less juvenile 9gag's users to visit and possibly change their attitudes about online interaction.

Anything that is created and freely displayed on the internet (as a means of entertainment or otherwise) can't really be contained within a single community. So they steal content; we as users don't lose all that much from that save for pride, do we? Even then, we know what's ours, and so do the people that matter.

If we have friends who still are a part of the "9gag Army," then we have an obligation to convert them in a way that doesn't make us out to be the bad guys. And for anyone who's not our friend on the site, who cares?

My point is that we have a great community here, but by DDOSing and making 9gag an "unlivable" place, I think we're just going to attract either retribution or former 9gag members looking for a new place to behave like children.

I really do like the idea of striking out against idiocy, but I don't think it's our best option as a community. I'm sort of a lurker, but I really do like Reddit, and I don't want us to be anyone's enemy if it can be avoided.
