It's not creepy or retarded. It's a complete mystery though, makes me think but I'm too stupid to figure it out. In an odd way I feel comforted when I watch it. I wish I paid more attention in English lit classes to decipher stuff like this. Or at least so I could word my crappy ideas about it, in a way that makes sense.

That sort of lifting fingernail stuff used to bother me. Then I shut my finger in a car door, bruising it horribly. The blood clot underneath was painful and separated the nail from the bed, and when the nail finally peeled up and came off, it was such a relief that now when I see something like this, it brings up a feeling more like peeling up a big scab that is ready to come off than ripping up a nail.

No, my mom had the same thing... She was moving furniture barefoot (and wearing a glittery clown wig, but that's another story) and dropped a cabinet directly on her big toe. Hurt like hell initially. Then the clot developed, and separated the nail from the nail bed. It popped off one day, to my horror, and to her relief. She said it felt like the pressure had finally lifted.

Glad that's how it worked for you. When I caught my finger between a car and a jack it mashed up my finger and shredded my nail off. There are a lot of nerves in your finger tips, and the brain does not take well to them sending pain signals all at the same fucking time. So yes, not the nail peeling thing bothers me even more than it did before. After my finger was reconstructed the doctors stitched a piece of tin foil to my nail bed and inserted under my skin so the cuticle would not fuse shut during healing, the pain from that stitch was constant until it was removed almost two months later.

I found the actual nail a week later still mostly complete and ground into the lining of my work glove. Also blood.
