This is one of those things I laugh at on the Internet. But not in real life.

[–]Lilyo 272 points273 points ago

Is there something we laugh at in real life but not on the internet?

[–]Erilaz 136 points137 points ago

Yes, jokes from our in-laws.

[–]CherryVanillaCoke 488 points489 points ago

Midgets. Can't tell if people are midgets on the internet.

[–]deadly_inhale 545 points546 points ago

Totally just imagined a midget redditor reading this then a single tear flowing down his face.

[–]KindOldMan[!] 137 points138 points ago

I'm a midget and I waddled in a celebratory circle.

[–]dragoone1111 13 points14 points ago

Happy cake day!

[–]basec0m 356 points357 points ago

Best I could do... feel better now? meanie!

[–]urzaz 188 points189 points ago

I imagine you frantically dressing your baby, setting this up, and taking a picture just for the internet.

[–]basec0m 85 points86 points ago

She'll get over it... The pacifier was only a couple feet away.

[–]mcknicker 12 points13 points ago

[–]BowsNToes21 36 points37 points ago

Sweetie quick daddy needs that sweet sweet karma, and for Christ's sakes stop crying. Fuck it there is no time I will take the damn picture as is.

[–]I_am_not_a_murderer 17 points18 points ago

This . . . is amazing.

[–]Zoloir 29 points30 points ago

Is it a happy tear because s/he is finally heard for what s/he has to say and not for what s/he looks like?

[–]brohammer5 52 points53 points ago

We don't know who you are. We don't know what you want. If you are looking for clean humor, I can tell you we don't have any. But what we do have is a very particular sense of humor; a sense of humor we have acquired over a very long life. A sense of humor that makes us a nightmare for midgets like you. If you tell us you're a midget now, that'll be the end of it. We will not look for you, we will not pursue you. But if you don't, we will look for you, we will find you, and we will laugh at you.

[–]BigSwedenMan 18 points19 points ago

Anything mildly funny that you see in person. Being there for something can make it 10x funnier than if you were to see it in person. Context is huge for humor. But as far as any subject that we laugh at in person but not real life, well you got me beat there

[–]Do_It_For_The_Lasers 12 points13 points ago

Out of politeness, probably your great-grandfather's very corny jokes...?

[–]DrDeath666 20 points21 points ago

any joke a girl tells me

[–]idkwtfimtalkingabout 8 points9 points ago

j/k - girls don't ever talk to me.

[–]TyrantRC 12 points13 points ago

SO WE ARE NOT IN REAL LIFE D:?

[–]fruitynoodles 1181 points1182 points ago

[–]cancernigger 1045 points1046 points ago

The most offensive thing about that is the watermark.

[–]make_my_dave 1243 points1244 points ago

Are you sure that's the only thing that's offensive, "cancernigger"?

[–]Methedras 333 points334 points ago

He said most, not only.

[–]make_my_dave 210 points211 points ago

This is Reddit. I can hear what I want to hear

[–]sackett9 115 points116 points ago

I'LL READ WHAT I WANT TO READ DAMMIT!

[–]SycoJack 122 points123 points ago

No, he's blind. He uses text to speech software. So it's hear. Asshole.

[–]Velk 184 points185 points ago

also, he has Synesthesia so he will see what he wants to hear damnit.

[–]kcintlob 37 points38 points ago

Too bad he's blind.

[–]tehfuturist 13 points14 points ago

In 1710, Thomas Woolhouse reported the case of another blind man who perceived colors in response to sounds.

[–]mgh245 7 points8 points ago

But it's an organization!

[–]Geroots 42 points43 points ago

That doesn't even look like a costume party...

[–]SwellFellow 0 points1 point ago

For some reason I find the fact that he may be the only one wearing a "costume" hilarious.

[–]James_Holmes 91 points92 points ago

Why do I find the OP's picture funny, but this one just lame and offensive?

[–]DatPiff916 235 points236 points ago

You could clearly see that in this one the guy is a douche in a popped collar bro kind of way, in OPs pic the guy isn't a douche but more clearly a faggot in an Andy Dick kind of way

[–]RoyallyTenenbaumed 51 points52 points ago

Succinctly put, 10/10

[–]profnutbutter 42 points43 points ago

Might have something to do with the fact that this one is dressed as an innocent victim?

[–]Taron221 34 points35 points ago

Because Op's picture is more joking and almost making fun of the shooter. While the other guy is almost poking fun at the victims.

[–]PackPlaceHood 8 points9 points ago

Not only that but it becomes much more personal when you associate the person with a certain organization. It definitely hits closer to home for me being a VT student but anyone can imagine being a student at a school whereas its much harder to imagine being a nameless victim at a movie theater.

[–]kshock 114 points115 points ago

what the hell is wrong with people these days.

[–]niggertown 101 points102 points ago

I think I can explain. Some people aren't successful at socialization. A person who is successful at socializing sees strangers as friends they haven't met. Whereas a person who isn't able to socialize well sees other people as enemies they haven't learned to hate yet. So when an attack on people who seem particularly social they feel a sense of satisfaction as though they are seeing their enemies punished. They like to see happy fools brought down a notch closer to their level. It's not necessarily because they lack empathy or are sociopaths who hate everyone.

[–]MaximumBob 20 points21 points ago

I can understand your point, but I don't think it applies at all in this situation.

[–]Jack_M 171 points172 points ago

Well said niggertown.

[–]CitizenPremier 46 points47 points ago

I don't think so. I think they just don't understand the difference between negative and positive attention.

[–]MasterChef614 131 points132 points ago

As a VT Alum, fuck this guy.

[–]speshulty 328 points329 points ago

As a person who loves tasteless humor, fuck you.

[–]brainzephyr 103 points104 points ago

As someone who is not a sociopath, fuck you.

[–]The_Mexorcist26 323 points324 points ago

As a person who loves orgies, fuck you too.

[–]Scarynig 121 points122 points ago

[–]adescamo 158 points159 points ago

How about dressing as Tony Scott with a life preserver on?

[–]velkyr 62 points63 points ago

This is dragon con we are talking about.... his opponents would be sun-deprived nerds who's carpel tunnel ruins their ability to punch.

[–]ImaLamer 91 points92 points ago

Yeah, but +3 dexterity.

[–]morgueanna 37 points38 points ago

I'm assuming you're saying this because you've never been to Dragon*Con and seen some of the people who attend.

[–]glutenfreebiguy 20 points21 points ago

Be back in a sec buying tickets for next year's dragon con

[–]Nickbou 6 points7 points ago

I've found Dragon*Con to be an interesting mix of physical traits. Greater than average number of "neckbeards", but also a surprising number of physically impressive folks. Physicality aside, they're almost all genuinely happy, friendly people.

[–]Chren 30 points31 points ago

says the redditor.

[–]AbanoMex[!] 6 points7 points ago

[–]Quierochurros 1 point2 points ago

According to the look the guy behind him is giving, then yes, too soon.

[–]mnky9800n 41 points42 points ago

Haha. That is me! I was a little put off.

[–]inferior-raven 515 points516 points ago

You know what? I like it. Men like that freak that shot up the theatre only have as much power as you give them. I would prefer his clout to be in the form of a stupid costume/ meme as opposed to a he-who-should-not-be-named type villain.

I think he'd be way too into that second one.

[–]tnturner 523 points524 points ago

I personally love for him to be publicly ridiculed like this more often.

[–]Roboticide 37 points38 points ago

I don't think this is quite making fun of him as much, but I found it equally amusing.

It's entirely possible though that too much exposure to /r/ImGoingToHellForThis and internet in general has ruined my sense of proper humor, and it is actually fucked up. /shrug

Oh, good. My slow-clap processor made it into this thing. So we have that.

[–]CBruce 225 points226 points ago

It's not about Voldmorting his ass, its about not giving these wackos any notoriety because it invariably leads to people following in their footsteps to leave their mark on the world or gain attention for their manifesto.

[–]103020302 82 points83 points ago

Guess what? It's gonna happen both ways.

[–]hinduguru 22 points23 points ago

Another spoiler

[–]Revolan 5 points6 points ago

This. People in that situation are so starved for attention due to their narcissistic ego, they look for the simplest way to gain attention of any kind, and due to whatever it is in our society that elevates killers to celebrities, this is the simplest path to immortality. I suggest listening to Marilyn Manson's speech on the Columbine shooters. Good shit.

[–]Beezle 17 points18 points ago

Yeah, this guy at some con is giving him attention, not the media blasting out every facet of his life and second to second details about the shooting.

[–]bugs_bunny_in_drag 10 points11 points ago

nobody ever wants to claim responsibility for their actions as long as other people are doing it too

[–]nerdsaretheworst 21 points22 points ago

That's... kind of a weird thing to say. I understand the idea behind it, I just don't think it's suitable in this particular context. Intellectual terrorists only have the power we give them, that's true enough. This guy used real bullets to do real damage to people's real bodies. He didn't try to make people change their lives through threat and intimidation. It's one thing to say that we shouldn't grant that guy the power to make us stop going to movie theaters, but this isn't one of those situations.

I'm pretty sure victims of that shooting/family members of deceased victims would take some issue with the idea that they somehow granted that guy the power to murder and maim a bunch of innocent, helpless people. This guy's costume isn't offensive because he's referencing a tragedy so much as it is offensive because he's seeking attention by sticking his thumb in the collective eye of a subculture that probably felt no small amount of impact from a mass murder. Kind of pathetic, really.

[–]Kowai03 2 points3 points ago

It's more that psychopaths are inspired by previous massacres and aim to copy them. They thrive on the attention that they create and seek it out.

That's why you usually see a string of massacres committed by different people over a short period of time.

[–]resolutionz 34 points35 points ago

I'll just throw my opinion in here. I don't think it matters what he thinks now and how much pleasure or annoyance he gains out of what we think of him. Either way he's in prison for the rest of his life.

What does matter is what other dangerous people think of him. The more they see him celebrated in any way at all, the more they'll want to act on their urges to gain that sort of celebrity. I'm not really okay with him being portrayed for this reason.

[–]Gareth321 14 points15 points ago

The pic isn't celebrating him, it's ridiculing him. There's a huge difference.

[–]jrghoull 19 points20 points ago

but it still reminds people of him. Which keeps him relevant. Most of us will live and die and few will ever know our names. Some people feel that more then others, and want to be known of/remembered. The less we talk of him, the better.

[–]VisualAssassin 11 points12 points ago

Quick, everyone burn all evidence of Hitler!

[–]BaldShaun 46 points47 points ago

It's not about him. I give no fucks about that dickbag. I just think this is lame and disrespectful to the victims, their friends and families, and anyone else involved.

Also, while I'm certainly not saying this guy in the costume deserves to get his ass kicked for poor taste, I wouldn't feel any sympathy for him if he did.

[–]SomeDamnPerspective 17 points18 points ago

You're one of those people who say nigger in order to dilute the word's power, aren't you?

[–]oozles 2 points3 points ago

Or you know, maybe not give him any attention. That works better.

[–]spectre1992 94 points95 points ago

I'll just leave this here...

edit: I know I'm going to hell for this, but dammit, it's too funny.

[–]brownman94 30 points31 points ago

[–]nateblack 13 points14 points ago

i laughed

[–]DO_NOT_AMA 4 points5 points ago

wtf is dragoncon.

[–]anxiouswreck 80 points81 points ago

I get that people are upset because it's offensive. And others are saying we've laughed at worse. But either way, it's not really funny. It's a stupid, lazy costume, and there's no humor behind it. I think it's more about if we know for sure that something happened and who it happened too. Like a little girl r-kelly pissed on costume. A miichael jackson with a lollypop in zipper costume. Something that was speculated but not proven or at least didn't take someones life.

I don't know. There's a lot of gray.

tl;dr insulting or not, this isn't funny. Not because I'm insulted...it's just not funny.

[–]BeARdBARIAN 8 points9 points ago

Not soon enough. Props to this guy for making a bunch of redditors cry.

[–]Cptnwalrus 140 points141 points ago

Jeeze, someone's looking for attention.

[–]IsAStrangeLoop 131 points132 points ago

No shit, he's a cosplayer. He's just doing it better (in the attention department) than the others.

[–]TheIndieArmy 60 points61 points ago

Minus the cleavage.

[–]BigSwedenMan 19 points20 points ago

Normally, cosplayers look to get attention by having well thought out, creative, or humorous costumes. This guy is just going for shock value. The kind of attention that goes with that is totally different

[–]melthornal 35 points36 points ago

There is only so much you can do in cosplay without boobs, good abs, hips and a nice ass. He's working with what he has, which is pretty much nothing. Give the guy a break.

[–]WTF_OMG 549 points550 points ago

you people makes jokes about all kinds of terrible shit all the time and this is off limits? seriously guys

[–]thelastvortigaunt 720 points721 points ago

Reddit isn't one person.

[–]Waffle-Carrot-Retard 89 points90 points ago

Or more specifically, the people who upvote and make comments and the people who upvote submissions are almost separate from each other. I see a lot of submissions on one stance, and comments that have another. Sometimes the submission and the top comment directly contradict each other, while both are upvoted.

The effect is seen less in smaller subreddits, and seen in major amounts in big ones, like defaults.

[–]savageboredom 62 points63 points ago

One of my favorite things is seeing OP in the comments with -20 comment karma for reiterating his position.

[–]GentlemanPlusScholar 22 points23 points ago

circlebroke justice.

[–]suckthisdeth 38 points39 points ago

what do you mean you people?

[–]JayBird27 21 points22 points ago

What do YOU mean, "you people?"

[–]Gingerbreadmancan 90 points91 points ago

[–]clouds31 37 points38 points ago

As a mod of r/toosoon, I'd rather have this at /r/ImGoingToHellForThis

[–]XDME 132 points133 points ago

As someone who frequents /r/imgoingtohellforthis I would be happy to have something that's not about black people liking watermelons.

[–]WTF_OMG 43 points44 points ago

yeah that subreddit is less edgy funny jokes and more racism and potato jokes...

[–]lasyke3 4 points5 points ago

Potato jokes? Are they trying to offend the Irish?

[–]CarpTunnel 15 points16 points ago

But are they funny?

[–]CoDa_420 35 points36 points ago

Meh. But /r/toosoon is incredibly fast when it comes to current events, so you can be laughing about all sorts of fucked up shit the same day it happened.

[–]grundose 32 points33 points ago

I actually prefer /r/toosoon. I used to be subscribed to /r/news but /r/toosoon seems slightly faster.

[–]Damaband41 48 points49 points ago

That's how you get your news?

[–]grundose 9 points10 points ago

Since it's /r/toosoon content is essentially a race. Whoever get's there first catches the karma train. You click a link that made it to the top, if it really is new you won't get it. You then look at the comments or check major news outlets to find out what the hell happened so that you can get the joke.

[–]raleigh15gotbanned 3 points4 points ago

... Still better than Fox News, am I right?

[–]dustin_the_wind 7 points8 points ago

r/toosoon is smaller, so news gets pushed up much faster. I usually see stuff in there several [hours] before I see it anywhere else.

[–]Roflkopt3r 24 points25 points ago

/r/ImGoingToHellForThis had the potential to be the maybe most funny subreddit for those who can stomach it. But instead it's filled with repost, boring jesus pics and not-so-funny racial stereotypes (blacks and kfc/watermelons, arabians = terrorists, jews = greedy and so on) without a punch behind it.

"Ohmawgod a black guy with a water melon, I'm totally going to hell for noticing!" - half the content of r/imgoingtohellforthis.

[–]PhallogicalScholar 7 points8 points ago

But this pic is actually funny. /r/ImGoingToHellForThis is just niggerhitler9/11ecksdee every other word and /r/toosoon is a cesspool of misused memes and bad jokes.

[–]PedoJones 29 points30 points ago

I don't understand the picture and I'm too lazy to scroll down for an explanation. Explain this shit.

[–]Jagyr 55 points56 points ago

Dude's cosplaying the Aurora CO shooter.

[–]StrawDog9 9 points10 points ago

Thanks, took me awhile to find this comment, but happy I did.

[–]mainsworth 26 points27 points ago

He's dressed up as the guy who shot up the theater at the Batman midnight showing.

[–]PedoJones 37 points38 points ago

At dragon con? Weird.

[–]aesamattki 13 points14 points ago

We're anonymous people online. We're supposed to be offensive... aren't we?

[–]Crookward 6 points7 points ago

less anonymous every year

[–]xNocturne 3 points4 points ago

[–]mcdxi11 12 points13 points ago

I think its dark humor at its best (and why dark humor exists in the first place)

[–]octowussy 104 points105 points ago

The most offensive thing about this is that this bottom feeder didn't bother to shave off ten pounds before shoehorning himself into that shirt.

[–]AdorableZeppelin 32 points33 points ago

So much anger, yet so much truth.

[–]calebb 2 points3 points ago

He's like a really old and honest dad.

[–]FictionZeroZeroOne 32 points33 points ago

I find it interesting that many people here think this is distasteful and offensive, but when Jeff Ross dresses up as Gaddhafi, who killed many more people than this Aurora shooter could have ever dreamed of, no one seems to mind - in fact, I wager many of you love him and his roasts.

I am not saying what this guy did was right or wrong, I just think it is interesting... it is perfectly fine to mock people if it is foreign to you or far away, like a Gaddhafi or Kim Jong Il, but when it something that affects you personally or hits close to home for you, like, say, a shooting in a theater for a movie reddit happens to love, it's suddenly in bad taste.

[–]SmokeSerpent 7 points8 points ago

Here's a hint, maybe the people who like Jeff Ross and think it's funny that he dressed as Gaddhafi are not the same people who think this is offensive?

[–]Minnkills21 60 points61 points ago

I don't get it

[–]Tomoya-kun 49 points50 points ago

http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2012-08-30/news/sns-rt-us-usa-shootings-denverbre87t1nh-20120830_1_fenton-tamara-brady-james-holmes

He is trying to dress up like this crack head the killed a bunch of people. He (guy in op's picture) really has some balls... I wouldn't put it past someone to beat the shit out of him if they had lost a family member in that.

[–]Minnkills21 41 points42 points ago

Ohhh.... DKR murderer, I didn't know what he looked liked, thanks for clearing that up!

[–]nahambrick 9 points10 points ago

I doubt someone in Atlanta lost a family member in that... Just sayin..

[–]siegewolf 11 points12 points ago

Someone in CT just happened to be on a cross country biking trip and stopped at that theater. He survived, but that's besides the point. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2012/08/02/connecticut-man-shot-in-aurora-theater-massacre-pledges-return-to-colorado/

[–]thetrickstergod1961 4 points5 points ago

I laughed a little, then felt bad about it. There must be a German word for that.

[–]permareddit 19 points20 points ago

Poland

[–]loldilawl 3 points4 points ago

Well shit. I'm Polish and just laughed out loud.

[–]foevalovinjah 2 points3 points ago

it kind of... well umm, sorta, i mean not really FUCKING REALLY HILARIOUS. Forgive me baby jesus but he also has that dumb expression on his face

[–]butyourhonor 2 points3 points ago

Yes. Yes it is.

[–]psychosnyder 5 points6 points ago

So it is ok for people to laugh at Jewish/Hitler jokes, but not at a person who killed what 12 people? Hell there are rouge snipers that kill more than that, but since they are in "lesser" countries no one gives a fuck. If you can't laugh at this then you need a larger life perspective.

[–]WHM-6R 41 points42 points ago

Wow, talk about putting zero effort into a costume. The gun's wrong, the sign is of crappy quality, and he used an orange t-shirt as a stand in for a prison jumpsuit. This entire cosplay just screams "I want everyone to pay attention to me, but I'm too lazy to spend more than two minutes on my costume."

[–]derpiato 3 points4 points ago

He got the hair and expression right.

I didn't even realise that was meant to be a jumpsuit.

[–]DreamVsPS2 14 points15 points ago

When you have to ask Too Soon, it's Too Soon.

[–]SkinnyNiggaBigBalls 4 points5 points ago

Too soon?

[–]MrTurkle 11 points12 points ago

in the equation "tragedy + time = comedy" time is the pivotal variable.

[–]vibroguy 3 points4 points ago

guys got balls. If this was the south park guys then we would be applauding them for their bravery. Well done sir

[–]LesliiJupetis 3 points4 points ago

Yes yes yes yes yes. The only way I deal with tragedy is to have a sense I humor about it

[–]CrispyPudding 3 points4 points ago

it's all about perspective.

I'm sort of shocked by this but that text "too soon" has me laughing. He's right it is too soon to be making fun of the tragedy and that's why I laugh because he knows it and I know it but still he does it anyway.

[–]mBarroso 3 points4 points ago

Fill me in please. Sorry I don't get the reference.

[–]Michichael 80 points81 points ago

This made me laugh harder than anything in /r/funny

[–]P3ngu1n48 141 points142 points ago

That's normal.

[–]sledsbehave 5 points6 points ago

[–]JoshIsNumber3 21 points22 points ago

Problem, world?

[–]James_Holmes 1 point2 points ago

Not soon enough.

[–]JimMorrisonsCorpse 5 points6 points ago

You know I'd say "that's a good way to get your ass kicked" but who am I kidding, this was at Dragon Con.

"That's a good way to get yelled at on the internet later that evening"

[–]Tr0llphace 3 points4 points ago

b-b-b-b-balls of steel

especially considering he's at a convention, it goes without saying that a lot of nerds were slain at that batman midnight premiere, some feelers are bound to be hurt and some hipster nerd is bound to give him a speech on morality.

I give him a 9/10 on the Troll-o-meter.

[–]Ellss 4 points5 points ago

Classic! I laughed so hard..

[–]FockerFGAA 8 points9 points ago

This guy is an idiot. Not because his costume is offensive but because his costume had nothing to do with dragon con. It is one thing to be a Dick but at least do it in the correct context.

Also, before anyone says it, just because the shooting occurred at a showing of a comic book movie doesn't mean it had anything to do with comics.

[–]Shelby312 19 points20 points ago

I laughed. See you all in hell, Reddit community!

[–]theundiscoveredcolor 2 points3 points ago

Hair's not orange enough.

[–]AdeshaNuts 2 points3 points ago

[–]niggertown 2 points3 points ago

If you don't laugh, the mass murderers win.

Took me second to get it... Then I laughed

[–]skoorbevad 2 points3 points ago

I had this conversation with a co-worker on Friday.

"Do you think anybody will go as the Aurora shooter?" "Probably not nearly enough."

Little did I know it was front page material.

[–]anikan72 2 points3 points ago

I think if /b/ was a person, it would look like this.

[–]gogomouth 2 points3 points ago

I think I just found my Halloween costume.

[–]kurt8081 2 points3 points ago

This isn't wtf.

[–]Lefty07 0 points1 point ago

yep definitely too soon.

[–]5h1tface 2 points3 points ago

If it wasn't too soon it would not be funny...

[–]BarelyReal 0 points1 point ago

You can say it's all in fun and just a joke, but I seriously don't get the "joke" other than doing something intentionally offensive. If that's the case then why SHOULDN'T people be offended? I could sooner respect an ass-hole who knows this will piss people off than an ass hole who didn't at any point question if it was in good taste.
