That guy is truly a gentleman.

[–]tyrryt 58 points59 points ago

The guy really is a class act.

There's a clip of him being interviewed by some yet-another journalist after a race in London - during the interview an anthem started playing for a medal ceremony. The journalist ignored it, but Bolt cut her off and stood silently during the anthem out of respect - he continued after it was over.

It was the US anthem.

[–]Im_a_cunt 5 points6 points ago

At the time there were large number of Americans trying to say he did it for respect to USA, wouldn't matter what country he would have stopped. Some great American arrogance was.shown

The moment he stops for an anthem that is no his, he's showing some great class.

[–]Im_a_cunt 1 point2 points ago

Absolutely my point was certain peoples interpretation of the gesture.

[–]SP0oONY -1 points0 points ago

He did it for the Kenyan anthem too.

[–]hampa9 23 points24 points ago

Well it's not exactly difficult or brave to say something nice about Paralympians.

I really don't think the comment was that calculated. It was a spontaneous response to watching the 5k wheelchair race. I watched it as well and it was pretty intense near the end.

a showman but also a class act

[–]Tinbuster00 12 points13 points ago

When I first saw this guy I wrote him off as another cocky athlete.

Now the more I learn about him, the more I see how awesome he. He really has given back to the world.

[–]joat217 16 points17 points ago

I forgot who said this, but someone once said that athletes shouldn't be the big picture, they should be part of the big picture.

[–]BongoBongos 13 points14 points ago

the best do both

[–]Morg_n -1 points0 points ago

[–]erythroUnited Kingdom 3 points4 points ago

The atmosphere was incredible

[–]FuctUp 2 points3 points ago

I couldn't help but read it in his voice.

[–]090517 1 point2 points ago

Can a guy with no arms compete in the paralympics track?

If so, wouldn't he have an advantage over full bodied people due to less mass?

[–]prezjordan 15 points16 points ago

No arms to balance himself while running. That would be incredibly difficult.

[–]rondinelli1337 4 points5 points ago

I may be wording it wrong, but doesnt the back an forth motion of the arms propel the runner to some degree?

I do know that if their arms are not swinging up and down perfectly, it's wasted energy and motion working against them.

[–]EmoRedneck 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, just look at sprinters. They have huge arms for this reason. It also works in distance, but not as much as sprinting necessary.

[–]viralizateUruguay 0 points1 point ago

I think op was thinking vs a guy that's missing a leg..

[–]scamps1United Kingdom 2 points3 points ago

Try running with your arms held by your side.

Time yourself to see how that compares to running while swinging your arms.

[–]mokr22 -1 points0 points ago

wrong comparision as i have practised all my life running with my arms,

though running arms help.
