I think this sums up a lot of religious people. (i.imgur.com)

We get threads of panel 2 about fifty times a day.
[–]Hounmlayn 6 points7 points8 points 4 hours ago
Because the posters endure panel 1 during their day outside of reddit.
[–]intentListener 0 points1 point2 points 39 minutes ago
I was referring to the "Let's have some respect here" part.
[–]nthensome 2 points3 points4 points 3 hours ago
I haven't seen this in, at least, a week. 10 days tops.
[–]CrispyPudding 20 points21 points22 points 7 hours ago
don't forget all the theists (mostly christians) who come here, to the atheist sub reddit, just to tell us we are douchbags for pretty much having a sub reddit.
[–]IndifferentMorality 7 points8 points9 points 5 hours ago
inb4: Hey! They're allowed to be here. Let's have a little respect.
No.
[–]78946512354678897546 2 points3 points4 points 3 hours ago
To be fair, they are forced to subscribe. And YES I KNOW they can unsubscribe, but taking it of the default list would be even better.
[–]CrispyPudding 4 points5 points6 points 3 hours ago
i always thought this was somewhat funny. you are born as an atheist and new accounts are subscribed to r/atheism. atheism as default believe and default subreddit.
but imo "Politics" shouldn't be a default subreddit either and should be renamed into "US Politics". but what gives, if something isn't your interest, just ignore it.
[–]rj20876 0 points1 point2 points 2 hours ago
Thats because its one of the most popular sub-reddits, not a subversive plan to try to convert all theist.

People can lie.
[–]CrispyPudding 6 points7 points8 points 3 hours ago
i think we have both. there are atheists who don't like r/atheism. and tbh i would love more discussions about philosophycal topics but i have other boards for that and that's ok. r/atheism is more light entertainment for me.
but there are also a lot of magic man followers who come here just saying they are atheists hoping that their statement will get taken more serious. how many times did i read "i studied biology and came to the conclusion that evolution has to be fals" and "i am an astrophysisist and there are a lot of indications for a young universe (10,000 yo)". they will tell you anything to validade their fairy tale.
but the difference between the complaints of a theist and an atheist is that an atheist has a say because he wants a better community if he says something but a theist wants us to just not exist. the atheist comes here with hopes and is maybe disappointed. the theist comes here to get angry and then vents at us. an atheist wants other atheists be less condecending because he wants more harmony in the world. the theist wants atheists to shut up because he thinks we have to obey his (magic mans) rules. this is ok in r/christianity but not in r/atheism.
the weird part for me is, they feel they have to be the internet knight for the creater of the universe. they believe we will suffer for all eternity. you would think that's enough, but no they need to attack us on a sub section of an internet site.
[–]GANGNAM_GUNDAM 2 points3 points4 points 3 hours ago
I said that people who are saying they're atheists could be lying. This is the internet, people lie.
[–]slightly_bald -1 points0 points1 point 4 hours ago
Where? Where are these people? I haven't seen them. Where are they? Can you point them out for me?

I don't. I tell you you're a douchebag because you're a douchebag. Sub-reddit or not it doesn't change who you are.
[–]CrispyPudding 5 points6 points7 points 4 hours ago

There's the problem. The assholes on both sides make it horrible for everyone.
[–]theinformedlurker 9 points10 points11 points 6 hours ago
How was the atheist at all an asshole. He wore an atheist shirt? Just like christians wear.
[–]misterfanwank 9 points10 points11 points 5 hours ago
He's not. He's just breaking his assailant's weapon in self defense.
[–]theinformedlurker 4 points5 points6 points 5 hours ago
Exactly, see the comment I replied to.
[–]misterfanwank 2 points3 points4 points 5 hours ago
Right, I'm agreeing with you by answering your rhetorical question.
[–]Pencilman7 0 points1 point2 points 2 hours ago
Even in defense of his own beliefs, destroying a religious symbol is never okay. We're not above our own rules here.
[–]Deimos56 0 points1 point2 points 40 minutes ago
In defense of his own face, though, that argument kind of breaks down.
Being beaten over the head with religion literally is much different than figuratively.
[–]theinformedlurker 0 points1 point2 points 23 seconds ago
He was defending himself, he was being beat with a wooden cross.
[–]Raknarg 1 point2 points3 points 2 hours ago
Because there's Christian who are assholes to atheists and point fingers and mess up shit, then there's the atheists who say all religion is stupid and make it bad for all the religious, despite the fact that most of them are not like that.
Ergo assholes on both sides who fuck it all up for everyone.
[–]theinformedlurker 0 points1 point2 points 51 seconds ago
But in relation to the picture, which you commented one, a person was being assaulted.
[–]RobertBus 2 points3 points4 points 2 hours ago
As a Christian, I apologize for all of these people. :/
[–]asterysk 2 points3 points4 points 4 hours ago
I'm downvoting this because I'm so sick of seeing it reposted.
[–]crashorbit 7 points8 points9 points 14 hours ago
Some things are worth repeating.
thanks
[–]HeraclitusCure -18 points-17 points-16 points 7 hours ago*
Repeating is good for christians with rosary beads, trying to convince themselves of the reality of their own wishes.
Face it: r/atheism is a self-gratifying echo chamber, a karmawhoring circlejerk going full circle twice a week.
[–]ococody 6 points7 points8 points 5 hours ago
Every post on atheism is going to be about there not being a god and how dumb it seems to think that there is a god. Should we bash religious subreddits for staying on topic with the beliefs of said religion too?
[–]HeraclitusCure 0 points1 point2 points 3 hours ago*
Can we "stay on topic" without reposting the SAME pictures every 3 days or so?
[–]ococody 0 points1 point2 points 1 hour ago
Oh ok, sorry. I made a mistake thinking you meant repeating the same ideas/topics, not reposts.
[–]CitrusTsar 6 points7 points8 points 6 hours ago
i am a christian, and even i agree that some are a little backwards
[–]MarinePrincePrime 2 points3 points4 points 5 hours ago
I am a Jedi and I find your lack of faith in your own religion disturbing. Judge not lest ye be judged.

little?
[–]Satiricalsarcasm 1 point2 points3 points 5 hours ago
yes, some
[–]zoltek -1 points0 points1 point 4 hours ago
Wow... this is the third time I've seen this on here this week. C'mon OP, be a little more original than that.
[–]Armitando 1 point2 points3 points 2 hours ago
Meanwhile, in the quest for original content...
[–]loon897 0 points1 point2 points 22 minutes ago
I really like your post because it says "most" religious people. Some of us aren't bat-shit crazy. Two things I KNOW the bible tells me to do is love and not to judge.
[–]bnpixie1990 0 points1 point2 points 10 minutes ago
Ugh can we at least get a different illustration Of this concept.
[–]Seer1185 0 points1 point2 points 9 minutes ago
Why does this fucking comic keep making it to the front page?
[–]WhatEvery1sThinking 2 points3 points4 points 6 hours ago
the more religious someone is, the more of a hypocrite they tend to be
[–]RavixTheDreamer 1 point2 points3 points 3 hours ago
Fuck it, the entire Bible is hypocrisy upon hypocrisy, and most Christians haven't read it in its entirety. Thou shalt not kill. Kill the homosexuals. Love thy neighbor. Kill all the heretics. The Bible is fucked. Don't even start complaining about cherry pickers or those who follow it closely. No matter what you do, it goes against some part of the Bible. Throw in some bullshit stories, some flowery wording and some poems and you have the key principle of a religion.
[–]rabbitt1979 0 points1 point2 points 5 hours ago
It's the truly religious who actually tend to follow their books closely. They tend to behave accordingly to their texts, and they aren't bashful about saying so.
I would argue that the liberal Christian who picks and chooses her Bible passages is more susceptible to hypocrisy. She gets to do the dance of modernity and sing His name so she can hedge her bets.
No, it's the fundamentalist who has actually read her holy texts, who clutches to the nonsense of bronze age thinking.

No, it doesn't sum up Christians. It sums up annoying religious people. Let's not forget religious people are still people, and should be shown at least some respect. Those that show themselves to be ignorant and bigoted should be made fun of, but let's not make blanket statements.
I'm an anti-theist myself, but you have to separate the religion and the people. Just because they're Christian(or insert religion here) doesn't necessarily mean they are ignorant of many issues, and intolerant of other viewpoints.
[–]TheRedditor560 -11 points-10 points-9 points 5 hours ago
What about the whole atheism page filled with people making fun of Christians?
/r/Christianity throwaway. How cute.
There are tonnes around here.
[–]Deimos56 0 points1 point2 points 36 minutes ago
What? The /r/christianity guys are pretty decent as far as I've seen. Relative lack of atheism hating.
[–]misterfanwank 7 points8 points9 points 5 hours ago
That's called venting; we have to deal with religious bullshit every day. Don't equate our venting with religious bigotry. They are NOT the same thing.
[–]mrthewaffinator -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 hours ago
Are you being sarcastic? its the same concept because you guys are a default subreddit and therefore end up telling a lot of christians who visit that you guys are assholes... way to support the secular cause guys...
[–]misterfanwank 7 points8 points9 points 4 hours ago
Our venting doesn't result in legislation, that limits civil rights. Our venting doesn't stone blasphemers to death. Our venting doesn't throw acid in peoples' faces.
Like I said, our venting is NOT the same thing as religious bigotry.
hmmmm, so what you are saying... is that a community that sits around bashing on christianity for the most part, without critically analyzing half of the shit they upvote, is different from a bunch of christians sitting in church spouting misconceptions about atheists? Are you saying that such a community promotes tolerance for secularists and other religions? this is a default subreddit, every comment and post you make is read by some christian who is trying to decide if atheists are predisposed to be assholes. Half the time it is the same as religious bigotry "atheists are stupid" is bigotry, just as "christians are stupid" is bigotry.
[–]RavixTheDreamer 3 points4 points5 points 3 hours ago
I evaluate what I see on atheism just fine, thank you. I see a community of logical people getting angry at the world around them. Look, man, we've had to put up with Christianity's religious bullshit for two millenia. All kinds of their shit makes us think that their people are assholes. In fact, there's enough of it to fill a very old book, along with a couple of history textbooks and a lot of sheeple's mouths. Shut the fuck up and get off atheism if you have a problem with us.
[–]misterfanwank 3 points4 points5 points 4 hours ago
The difference is our complaints are usually valid.
[–]SoFFacet 1 point2 points3 points 4 hours ago
Its a manifestation of the 2nd panel of the comic. What of it?
[–]gereffi -7 points-6 points-5 points 5 hours ago
And if you reverse the comic, you're summing up a lot of atheists.
[–]TTkun 6 points7 points8 points 4 hours ago
If you reverse the panel, it would suggest the atheist did return the cross. Yet the christian bashes away after the fact.
[–]xTeknoLogicx 0 points1 point2 points 3 hours ago
Look at r/Christianity, do you see any bashing? Now look at r/atheism.
[–]Hufflepuff_Dont_Care[S] 0 points1 point2 points 1 hour ago
Attention: I did not realize this was a repost. It was very stupid of me not to check, but someone has referred me to karmadecay.com and I will use it from now on. Again, I am sincerely sorry and in the future I will investigate further.
[–]herbandmargie -7 points-6 points-5 points 4 hours ago
Religious people resort to physical violence against atheists?
Hmmm I am sure that is common..
More intellectual honesty from the atheists....
[–]Bryan_Hallick 2 points3 points4 points 3 hours ago
wait...are you seriously suggesting that atheists are being intellectually dishonest by implying there's a threat of physical violence from theists? http://i.minus.com/isf4uZkqRyjpV.jpg
[–]TTkun 2 points3 points4 points 4 hours ago
Disarming your attacker is now wrong?? The act was not against the person, but the weapon they utilized.
[–]multimedium 1 point2 points3 points 3 hours ago
Really? You don't understand how political cartoons work?
[–]magicmagininja -13 points-12 points-11 points 6 hours ago
no, it doesnt. how about that.
[–]misterfanwank 6 points7 points8 points 5 hours ago
Yes, it does. How about that.
Please note OP's title says "a lot," not "most" or "all." He's condemning a specific aspect of religion, not all people, who are religious.
[–]magicmagininja -7 points-6 points-5 points 5 hours ago
the small vocal majority may do this, but the majority of religious people don't. goodness you people are daft.
[–]misterfanwank 5 points6 points7 points 5 hours ago
Goodness, you're daft. What the fuck do you think "a lot" means? It doesn't mean "most" or "all."
Regardless, in the US that "vocal minority" has wormed its way into being able to heavily influence legislature. This wouldn't happen if people wouldn't vote for them, but hey, I guess that's not the fault of the non-bigoted people, who vote for them, right? After all those people aren't bigoted!
