From what I understand it's a lot to do with what it's rendering. It renders a lot up, down, and to the sides of you at any given time which I'd imagine is pretty tough to do.

Even with Optifine and settings seriously reduced. It just lags like hell once night falls, I can't explain it. It's unplayable even when mining in caves. Too bad, I really liked playing it, but now the system specs are too high.

I had a GTS 250 and i still had to play TF2 and Minecraft on low settings. I recently got a GTX 550Ti and i feel as though it only moved up graphics settings somewhat slightly.

Same here, so again, i got no complaints about it really. EDIT: The life of it seems really strange, when i don't turn off my computer it seems to be a lot lower in performance. I always put my computer to sleep mode so i'm never sure if my GPU is gonna perform at Max performance or if it's gonna be like a huge shit going down a toilet bowl, you're just not gonna be sure...

I remember playing hl2 on integrated graphics as a kid. Going to office max and buying a 100 dollar pci card was one of the best feelings ever as a 13 year old. Like buying a new car. This was when agp was the shit. Not pic express.

In reality it was like buying a brand new Chevy cavalier for 40,000$.

I think the Tom's Hardware one has MSAA on 4 whereas the anandtech one has FXAA on. Either way, it's an awesome card for the money. I recently had the dilemma of choosing a graphics card but I had extra cash and went for a 670, Free borderlands 2 + Physx were the things that enticed me over to nvidia after I'd been ati/amd for so long.

Edit: In fact, if you look more around the anandtech benchmarks, it shows that with ultra settings and 4xMSAA, the 7870 gets 40ish fps at 1900x1200.

40 fps is good enough for me anyways; I'm coming from a Mobility 4650 that gives me 19 fps on low settings on 800x600 resolution. I'm perfectly overjoyed by High settings, especially since Ultra was meant for duel card setups and isn't noticeably different from High unless you're play at a really high resolution.

As a bonus, the 7870 comes with Sleeping Dogs free. So I'm super excited to upgrade.

Nah money was not a problem, but there was absolutely no reason to get a gtx 690 so 7970 is what I got. Honestly after not being able to game at a proper resolution for nearly 5 years, it feels pretty fucking good.

Quick question. When u crossfire 2 GPUs using one monitor does it matter what port you plug onto? Does the computer even recognize both cards or does it create one super card?

Well im not running more than one monitor atm, future plans to. But as for now its one super card. You will notice about a 50-60% increase in performance, when you sli/crossfire the same cards. Money isnt a problem for me either, but waiting patiently to order it piece by piece is. Could have waited 2 week to get the 7970, but im impatient lol.
