Seven Samurai is paced a lot slower and the quality of the main edition you'll can find is not that great. It's hard to appreciate the Seven Samurai without some background in Japanese history, as most of the cultural background will be lost on you. The Magnificent Seven was a remake in a very American genre for an American audience; I'm not surprised you liked it more.

Tadanobu Asano is a such a great actor! Without him, Ichi the Killer wouldn't have been nearly as good.

For those of you not familiar with the flick, check it out. But be warned... it's extremely twisted and will scar you for life.

I enjoyed it, it's one of those movies people either love or despise. There's really no room for middle ground. It explores some seriously dark territory, but if you've ever seen any other films by Takashi Miike you know what I'm talking about. Despite the overall insanity, there's some really great dark comedy interwoven in there, and I'd have to recommend every ent see it at least once. IMO Asano as Kakihara the Yakuza boss made it worth my time. So yeah, definitely check it out. But trust me, it is VERY disturbing at parts.

Oh, yeah. Asano is easily one of my favourite actors; I heartily recommend anybody reading this checks out his other movies.

Especially (not in any particular order): Ichi the Killer, Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl, Electric Dragon 80,000V, Invisible Waves, Last Life in he Universe, Zatoichi, Tokyo Zombie and A Taste of Tea.
