I found out my fellow Geologist is a creationist.... We are mainly a Paleontology department too. He must think all of our professors are pretty dumb when they keep saying "millions of years"

[–]Grindstone50k 8 points9 points ago

To be fair, there are some creationists who don't subscribe to YEC. They see evolution as a domino-type thing set in motion by their god.

[–]johnsonchicklet 4 points5 points ago

To be honest, I prefer when creationists think of it this way. At least they aren't denying facts, they are just maintaining their belief of god in a world full of facts. Until a fact 100% disproves god, I am okay with people who accept all science, and say that a god set all of it in motion. Not that I believe any of that bull shit, of course :D

In my slow process of losing my religion, evolution-set-in-motion-by-god was one of the rationalizations I went through. Maybe it's a stepping stone.

[–]Deafiler 1 point2 points ago

It's absolutely a stepping stone. God just fills in the gaps in our knowledge; as we learn more, he recedes.

[–]noname-_- 1 point2 points ago

Maybe he's not a young earth creationist.

[–]wizzrobe30 29 points30 points ago

Oh well, you're his friend, that's what matters. Don't be a dick.

[–]JosephBartels 6 points7 points ago

If I believed something that my best friend knew for a fact wasn't true, then I would sure as hell want them to enlighten me as to the facts of the matter.

[–]halfchubb 6 points7 points ago

It's his belief, don't push yours onto others.

[–]Rummenigge 1 point2 points ago

Ahhh, it's like not telling someone that 2+2= 5 is wrong. You can believe in god. Fine. But you have to accepts facts.

[–]halfchubb -5 points-4 points ago

No they don't. They do not have to accept anything. They can believe what they want to believe. All that matters is that it IS true and whether they want to believe it or not is up to them.

[–]Rummenigge 7 points8 points ago

Dude, you are absolutely welcome to have your own opinion. But if you think that having an opinion makes it a fact, you better GTFO. How would you feel if you're best friend wouldn't accept gravity? You wouldn't let him jump off roofs would you?

[–]beatsandpulses -4 points-3 points ago

You don't know it's wrong for a fact.

I'm not religious, but you can't know anything for sure, its just as stupid to say "This is definitely 100% true" as it is to say "This is definitely 100% not true%".

This (in my opinion) is the biggest problem with this subreddit.

Came to say this.

[–]thedylan100 11 points12 points ago

The irony is that brian is an atheist.

[–]TheOneWhoKnocksBitch 7 points8 points ago

If he can be tolerant to your beliefs, you should be to his.

[–]LucidMetal 0 points1 point ago

I, too, have multiple fundie friends. We don't talk about that sort of thing.

[–]BrutalMassacre3 0 points1 point ago

how do you not learn about this during the pre best friend stage?

[–]Grandmaster_Of_Funk 0 points1 point ago

The fact that he didn't tells me it's not a big deal

[–]BrutalMassacre3 -1 points0 points ago

well i dont know, me and my friends tend to have long talks about views on life and it just seems odd to me that something like your view on how everything was created being different never came up at some point.

[–]Bonyony 1 point2 points ago

Why should you care?

[–]LoganBerryz 2 points3 points ago

My best friend told me he would vote for Romney a few days ago, so I think I sort of understand this sentiment to an extent.

But, y'know, friends forever no matter what and all that. <3

[–]Aoife246 0 points1 point ago

I love the way Stewie's head goes to the side, it reminds me of my (dead) bird Paris when she was alive, you would say something to her and she'd put her head on the side like that as much to say "dafuq you say?"

[–]ImNotSalinger 4 points5 points ago

Who cares? It shouldn't matter.

[–]Toofifty 3 points4 points ago

What the deuce?

[–]SteelCrossx 1 point2 points ago

I have a friend that is and we've discussed it a couple of times. He says things like "I just don't buy it" when talking about evolution and "Then why are there still monkeys?" Surprisingly, we have a more heated debate discussing midichlorians in Star Wars than evolution. I do occasionally have a problem when we discuss why people do things and I say "because we evolved to... oh wait."

up-side-down-face

[–]Khenir 0 points1 point ago

Grow up.

[–]thenarwhalthatbacons 0 points1 point ago

In the GIF, what does Brian say to Stewie? I've seen it a few times before.

[–]Friendly_hazard 0 points1 point ago

Why was he surprised if he knew he was a creationist himself?

[–]phuxen 1 point2 points ago

I'm sure this turned your life upside down face

[–]Lexirox -5 points-4 points ago

Dude. If you're really his friend then you shouldn't care. You're a bad friend and i feel sorry for him.
