Mega Blocks are like the Rose-Art version of lego.

[–]Boomanchu 51 points52 points ago

Rose Art is to Crayola what Megablocks is to Lego?

[–]arthurardvark1 22 points23 points ago

Exactly.

[–]ToastyRaichu 19 points20 points ago

Same company btw

[–]bulletbillx 24 points25 points ago

So it IS one company in a conspiracy to ruin lives and confuse people with terrible knock offs of children's products.

[–]Micr0waveMan 7 points8 points ago

The caps barely fit their markers, adding another parallel to the analogy.

[–]EnlightenedNarwhal 0 points1 point ago

MegaBloks

[–]DetectiveClownMD 4 points5 points ago

Its just wax! Why why why?! I swear I still get flashbacks from those pieces of crap. That and rubber pencils or whatever those pieces of shit are that the wood is smooth and so is the lead. So much crap!

[–]xpurepwnagex 6 points7 points ago

They write by tearing the paper and smudging the table.

[–]WormyTea 4 points5 points ago

The Company that makes mega bloks owns Rose Art. According to Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Brands

[–]wilbursaurus 1 point2 points ago

Rose art is a trademark of mega brands, whihc makes mega BLOKS. B-L-O-K-S. And I like mega over lego.

[–]redditchao999 0 points1 point ago

To be fair, megabloks aren't baaad. They have some good sets. I made an awesome giant Mech with a knight pilot once.

[–]degausser427 7 points8 points ago

You're right; Mega Bloks aren't bad. They're atrocious.

[–]flappity 3 points4 points ago

My parents got me a Mega Bloks catapult once, complete with rubber band and all that to make it launch things.

I built it, set it up, put something in the scoop, pulled back, and fired.

The object in question didn't make it off the catapult. However, the launching arm of the catapult flew off the catapult in several pieces, while the catapult body ripped itself in half.

It was less fun than I had hoped.

[–]arthurardvark1 2 points3 points ago

If you have 2 flat mega blocks stuck together, it is way harder to separate than 2 flat Legos.

[–]KingAgrian 2 points3 points ago

I disagree. Legos fit perfectly together and are perfectly flush on the sides. Ill-fitting mega blocks can have lightly raised sides, and might be loose.

[–]redditchao999 0 points1 point ago

I'll agree that they are shameless rip offs of legos.

[–]Kim_Jong42 1 point2 points ago

I had that, never built it, just used the guns and missiles on my lego sets

[–]redditchao999 1 point2 points ago

you know, that's a really good idea. I don't know why I didn't just do that.

[–]Cool_Stories_Bro 30 points31 points ago

Megablocks as a present: A great passive aggressive way to tell someone you don't like them.

[–]crmacd 31 points32 points ago

[–]ToastyRaichu 9 points10 points ago

MegaBlocks is also the same company that makes Rosart crayons.

[–]bulletbillx 10 points11 points ago

This company is a Conspiracy to ruin childhoods.

[–]dvn113 18 points19 points ago

I had Duplo when i was very young. Made the best guns.

[–]Apocol0id 6 points7 points ago

I remember duplo. Duplo worked well with lego in some instances, I made so many towers...duplo made for a sturdy base, man.

[–]iltalldude 4 points5 points ago

Yeah when I learned that duplos and legos fit together I was floored

[–]ArtDuck 4 points5 points ago

TIL, man!

[–]03Titanium 2 points3 points ago

I'm trying for the life of me to remember the name of another kind of block I had. There were LEGO. Mega blocks. KINEX. And another Oval shaped block with two of the "dowels" per block. They were sometimes made of the coolest plastic that could change color and glow in the dark. They also held together nicely when put in a solid structure and didn't weigh a metric crap load when made into something big.

[–]Tasgall 2 points3 points ago

THESE THINGS! I forgot about those.

Can't remember, or find the name though. The site that picture is from just calls them "building block toy".

[–]AnNoYiNgUsErNaMe 0 points1 point ago

I played the shit out of these things.

[–]03Titanium 1 point2 points ago

Yeah that's it. They were awesome.

[–]bulletbillx 0 points1 point ago

Tinkertoys and Erector sets were other kick ass options depending on age.

[–]tobyserra 0 points1 point ago

I still laugh at Erector.

[–]Short_Swordsman 1 point2 points ago

Construx maybe? It's a construction toy I remember from my childhood, but I'm not certain whether they had the attributes you describe.

[–]TheMuskrat 0 points1 point ago

I had the duplo boat it was badass

[–]aneffinyank 0 points1 point ago

I had the Duplo "bus" that was on wheels... It was awesome...

[–]TheHerbalGerbil 0 points1 point ago

I don’t remember ever getting Duplo, but I remember my younger brother getting Duplo when I was already playing with Lego. For a short time, I thought it was lame, but then I realized you could use the two together.

[–]johnbujalski 6 points7 points ago

Even as a small child I could tell - Mega Bloks has flashy sets, but the pieces were garbage. Most of them either broke or didn't connect correctly or both.

LEGO all the way.

[–]Blaster395 1 point2 points ago

Mega Bloks has far lower precision control on the pieces. LEGO has put a lot of development into making sure they stick together evenly and with a reasonably amount of resistance to breaking apart.

[–]ImpulseFlash 31 points32 points ago

Peter: You got Legos? Aw, sweet! Lois only buys me Mega Bloks. Lois: They're the same thing, Peter. Peter: You know what, Lois? They are not the same thing. And the sooner you get that through your thick skull, the sooner we can get this marriage back on track.

[–]theorem604 9 points10 points ago

I love how it is implied that their marraige is "off track" because of Mega Bloks. That, combined with Peters seething resentment while delivering the line makes that one of the best FG moments ever

[–]BrianWantsTruth 12 points13 points ago

Shout-out to my homies, Brio and Meccano!!

Actually, I fucking hated Meccano. Why did I have so much of it?

[–]nikkukun 1 point2 points ago

That shit looks like it would be a ton of fun.

What made you have it so much?

[–]gijsr 0 points1 point ago

It was such a hassle to take it apart, like knex. I usually made structures and never took them apart because it was so annoying.

[–]BrianWantsTruth 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, either the bolts would be too tight or never tight enough. The stupid wrenches were useless too. The whole kit was basically "my first stripped screw".

[–]SassleFraz 6 points7 points ago

It's simple: if you step on one kind it is a mild inconvenience to your day. If you step on the other kind you are lucky if doctors can save the foot.

[–]the_xxvii 66 points67 points ago

One does not simply pluralize "LEGO".

[–]TheHerbalGerbil 10 points11 points ago

One does not simply spell Mega Bloks properly.

[–]RayLuxYacht 5 points6 points ago

Came here to point that out, LEGO is the brand name of the product, not the separate bricks.

[–]Avarra 1 point2 points ago

I call them Legos. I did as a kid and I do now. :O

[–]underwritress 25 points26 points ago

well, you're saying it wrong.

[–]Wazowski -1 points0 points ago

It's a made up nonsense word. You can pluralize it if you want.

Legos.

[–]nicks3607 -2 points-1 points ago

Thank you. Spread the word, brother.

[–]mjq03 13 points14 points ago

brb breaking out my old lego collection

[–]tyrghast 4 points5 points ago

Parents who don't love their children buy them Mega-Blocks and Roseart crayons.

[–]GenericOnlineName 2 points3 points ago

The only time I actually willing bought Mega Bloks were when they had those dragon sets. They looked fairly cool and had special castle blocks which made building not go to utter hell. It's unfortunate how Mega Bloks sometimes has a cool set, but it doesn't always work out well in the end.

[–]CalvinDehaze 4 points5 points ago

I buy Lego collections online, and spend most of my time picking out the Megablocks. I have about 200lbs of loose Lego, and have pulled out about 20lbs of Megablocks. I hate Megablocks.

[–]frankiefourshot 4 points5 points ago

That's basically my mom with brand name vs. generic groceries. THERE'S A DISTINCT AND NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE!

[–]TheHerbalGerbil 0 points1 point ago

Depends on where you’re shopping and on the specific item. Some house brands are often made by a decent manufacturer.

E.g., at the store where I work, the generic cream cheese is really Philadelphia (found this out from a mispackaged item), the generic potato chips are made by Old Dutch (found this out from the sales rep for Old Dutch) and the generic light bulbs are made by Phillips (they always ship in a box marked “Phillips” but the individual product packages inside have the house brand).

And some house brands are almost always crap. Any fellow Canadian will know what I’m talking about when I mention Truly.

[–]ArtDuck 1 point2 points ago

Why not be subtle and say they're truly crap?

[–]TheHerbalGerbil 0 points1 point ago

When you’re shopping at Zellers, that should be the default assumption.

[–]bulletbillx 2 points3 points ago

Not always. Some store brands = rebranded name brands. Others are just identical or better.

For example - Kirkland Costco Vodka is or at least may as well be rebranded Grey Goose

[–]ThatIsMyHat 0 points1 point ago

Protip: Never buy generic brand groceries from Target. I got some peanut butter once, and when I opened it up it was a fucking liquid. I could literally pour it down the drain. I have never bought quality generic groceries from Target.

[–]Coolstorylucas -1 points0 points ago

Well brand name is usually less healthy.

[–]yppers 2 points3 points ago

Mega Blocks were pretty sweet too. I remember this awsome mega block rocket that had a fucking sliding clear plastic door it was awsome. BWT Its lego not legos you stupid motherfucker.

[–]Desmerr 6 points7 points ago

One does not simply call Lego "Legos".

[–]Tasgall 1 point2 points ago

One does not simply call Mega Bloks "Mega Blocks"

[–]RHCP4Life 2 points3 points ago

I remember once getting mega blocks as a child for Christmas and crying because they weren't LEGO.

[–]03Titanium 9 points10 points ago

It must have been hard finding out your parents didn't love you.

[–]RHCP4Life 1 point2 points ago

It really was, and they still don't see what the big deal was. What they don't know was that I lost all my friends. Whenever they would come over to play, they would eventually find out I had a single mega block set. They would get up, point and laugh, and go over to another friend's house who had only LEGO sets leaving me sobbing alone with my damn mega block set. Don't get me wrong, I had LEGO sets, but just the fact I owned a mega block set was enough for all my friends to shun me. Now I sit here, at age 32, daily playing with my now countless LEGO sets waiting for the day for my "friends" to come back and play with me.

[–]dlama 0 points1 point ago

Mega Blocks suck. They never stay locked together.

[–]ThatIsMyHat 2 points3 points ago

I once worked at a "LEGO summer camp", except that most of the bricks were Mega Bloks. I feel like the parents were entitled to sue for false advertising, but they never did.

[–]ElverRokc 0 points1 point ago

I'm glad that in my life I never used mega blocks.

[–]Kilgannon_TheCrowing 0 points1 point ago

You should. Just for a second... your appreciation for Lego will grow exponentially.

[–]jacobtaylor1987 0 points1 point ago

One does not simply pluralise "Lego".

[–]ZeeHypnotist 4 points5 points ago

I've never understood why people have such a problem with Mega Bloks. Mega Bloks has made tanks, jet aircraft, APC's, all kinds of shit that LEGO would never support.

[–]ThatIsMyHat 8 points9 points ago

LEGO made Star Wars shit. You can't buy a Mega Bloks Death Star.

[–]bumpymonkey 4 points5 points ago

The build quality on MegaBloks is abysmal compared to Lego bricks. MegaBloks don't even fit together properly most of the time.

[–]NothingCleverAtAll -2 points-1 points ago

I disagree. I got as many Mega Blok sets as a kid as I did LEGO, and dumped all the pieces together in the same bin, and never ran into even the slightest problem with compatibility or quality.

[–]Kilgannon_TheCrowing 2 points3 points ago

Are you serious? Have you ever compared the two? Mega Bloks are complete shit. A Lego brick is a piece of art in itself - a Mega Blok is what you get when you give a lump of plastic to a mentally challenged toddler.

[–]Brickx3 0 points1 point ago

In my opinion most Lego sets now are aimed at collectors. Unless you are buying a cheap bucket, I feel like mega blocks are the toy now.

[–]Arcadax -2 points-1 points ago

Hate it or not, they are compatible blocks :P

[–]Madhapy 17 points18 points ago

Barely! both kinds stuck great to their own kind, but when you put them together your damn house fell apart. Plus mega blocks are for kids who aren't loved

[–]livefreeordont 7 points8 points ago

i had lincoln logs :(

[–]iltalldude 11 points12 points ago

Lincoln logs are the shit man

[–]livefreeordont 4 points5 points ago

they were in the 60s - the 1860s that is

[–]chocolatethunderman 4 points5 points ago

I enjoyed the hell out of them in the 90's and don't hate playing with them when my young cousins visit.

[–]LITERALLYbornhuetter -2 points-1 points ago

uptoked for 1990s reference.

[–]StaplerFingers -1 points0 points ago

you are the reason 4chan hates us.

[–]ThatIsMyHat 1 point2 points ago

True fact: Lincoln Logs were invented by John Lloyd Wright, Frank Lloyd Wright's son.

[–]Shadax 10 points11 points ago

Except megablocks do not have the thousandths of a millimeter tolerance in their mould the way Lego blocks do. They may fit, but have you ever built something with megablocks? The quality is night and day from Lego.

[–]03Titanium 1 point2 points ago

I had a jet fighter from a mega blocks kit that creaked and moaned whenever you touched it. The major sections like wings never stayed attached and you could see every reason why Legos were better.

[–]Shadax 3 points4 points ago

MegaBlocks' business model revolves around marketing for themes and big names. I wanted a halo Lego set, guess who's the only company who can make em.

I got my megablocks warthog set and it was just awful.

[–]omgoffensiveguy -5 points-4 points ago

[–]ArtDuck 1 point2 points ago

You're being the most wretched kind of filth dredged up from the deepest cesspits of perdition at the moment. You are not being a decent human being, nor are you being a helpful one, and you need to reconsider your life choices.

I am sick of seeing your repetitive posts, and they do nothing but irritate those who happen to open the "below threshold" comment out of curiosity. They do not spread knowledge, or fight worldsuck. They increase it.

For an example of something that does not, see this. Hopefully, the striking contrast between it and your comment will help you realize your error. Good day.

[–]ThatIsMyHat 0 points1 point ago

I also think the plastic isn't quite as durable and colors are duller and more washed out.

[–]OffYourHead 2 points3 points ago

They fit together, but they have different heights. One megablock could bring anything to the ground.

[–]Im-M-A-Reyes 0 points1 point ago

Unless you are a mother of course, they never seem to get it right

[–]Klokcworc 0 points1 point ago

Tell this to my mother ten years ago on christmas.

[–]IsAStrangeLoop -1 points0 points ago

I think you meant to imply the opposite of this meme.

[–]andawarmgeek 0 points1 point ago

My mom once said they were the same thing. I recall spending 10 minutes lecturing her when i was a kid about how she was wrong, haha

[–]Jonny_Watts 0 points1 point ago

This macro came 15 years too late

[–]Akhaian 0 points1 point ago

God damn right

[–]dailydoseofdave 0 points1 point ago

Didn't mega blocks come first? Just wondering

[–]atucker88 1 point2 points ago

step on a lego, hurts like hell. step on a megablock, break your ankle

[–]Stevonz123 0 points1 point ago

This is the only instance when neutralization becomes acceptable.

[–]8livesdown -1 points0 points ago

Seriously, I need someone to explain why megablocks are evil

[–]Kilgannon_TheCrowing 0 points1 point ago

They are just so cheaply made. The plastic looks and feels cheap. Lego has ridiculous tolerances and quality control - their bricks and plates are all identical up to 10 micrometers difference. You can fucking SEE the differences in Mega Bloks. They don't stay together, and they can break. They are just awful, awful products in comparison.

[–]Tasgall 1 point2 points ago

And yet the Lego magazine I got as a kid had a Mega Blok battleship (which I had, for some reason, bought (for the mass quantities of gray 2x4s mostly)) listed as the winning entry of one of their monthly contests.

I was so mad.

[–]Hollowkarl 0 points1 point ago

Why do I feel like this is directed to me. (Person who posted a picture of a broken Lego that I stepped on)

[–]shatonamime 0 points1 point ago

more often I see people confuse minimates with megabloks, which is also absurd.

[–]Skid_Markie 1 point2 points ago

This is such a groundbreaking stance to take on reddit. Never seen anything like it.

[–]notarapist72 -1 points0 points ago

Theres a special place in hell for mega block people

[–]DCordova 1 point2 points ago

The Supreme Court of Canada is just as passionate about Mega Blok confusion: http://canlii.ca/en/ca/scc/doc/2005/2005scc65/2005scc65.html

[–]yppers 1 point2 points ago

Stickle Bricks!!!!

[–]ArtDuck 0 points1 point ago

I hadn't even heard of Mega Blocks until earlier today, whereupon I noticed they were being used side-by-side in a miniature foozball table. What the heck, universe? For fifteen years, nothing, nothing, then blam! Megablocks!

[–]Justice502 0 points1 point ago

Mega blocks make some cool shit these days, and kreo transformer stuff owns. Lego may still be king, but not be a lot.

[–]konakonayuki 0 points1 point ago

Neither Should This.

[–]TEHMAXXORZ 0 points1 point ago

Hey, does anybody remember those lego dragon sets?

[–]The_Joellercoaster 0 points1 point ago

Make sure you enjoy a bowl of bootleg cheerios with those megablocks.

[–]StaplerFingers 0 points1 point ago

I loved the Mega Bloks dragons sets. I specifically asked for them at xmas/birthday time. If i wanted to be creative with my creations I would go with Lego though.

My favorite was Bionicle though. I had every single Bionicle character and even made up some of my own.

I wasnt a picky child. I got toys, I played with them and didnt bitch about it.

[–]claudesoph 0 points1 point ago

Toy elitism at its finest.

[–]Kilgannon_TheCrowing 0 points1 point ago

IMO, it's only elitism if there isn't really a clear difference. Obviously not the case here.

[–]kaixinen 0 points1 point ago

A very yes up vote for you sir.

[–]BuffaloToast 0 points1 point ago

Gather round children, to hear my tale of woe.

Over the summer, I worked at a daycare. It was fun, but that is besides the point. One day, the supervisor came up to me. She said, "tomorrow, we are having a special day. In the playroom, there will be buckets and buckets, enough to fill the entire room, of Legos."

So obviously I'm excited. If the kids are playing with them, that means I get to play with them. All day I waited, patiently.

The next day arrives. The room supervisor decides to go at the end of the day. Aww. Whatever, I have waited this long, I can handle a few more hours.

The time comes.

We lead them upstairs. I'm excited, the kids are excited, oh joy of joys!

Two containers of megablocks in the far corner. That's it. I nearly cried.

What monster does that, raise your hopes and just crashes them down?

TL;DR I'm a kid inside. Now where are my goddamn Legos?

[–]Linkazord -1 points0 points ago

FUCKING AMERICANS CALLING THEM LEGOS

[–]Prescription_pants 0 points1 point ago

But what if you are Lego-less? :)

[–]MZago1 0 points1 point ago

If your parents gave you Mega Blocks as a child, they didn't love.

[–]Bierce_Bash 0 points1 point ago

Megablocks are like Lenny from of mice and men.

[–]g2n 0 points1 point ago

I have been told by a lego enthusiast that mega blocks are the nigger version of legos.

[–]thetoneranger 0 points1 point ago

It shouldn't, but it did. When I was a kid, I asked for logos for Christmas and got a huge bin of mega blocks. I cried for hours and just writing this brings a tear to my eye. At least I got soothing though and I did build some pretty sweet shit with dem mega blocks.

[–]Fuck_my_username 0 points1 point ago

Megablocks is sort of like the retarded cousin of Legos.

[–]phil8248 0 points1 point ago

While I would never allow a Megablock in my home, and I have collected Lego since 2000, it is interesting that Megablock introduced numbered bags and numbered instruction books before Lego. Hmmm. Student teaching the professor I think.

[–]Paisley_Alpaca 0 points1 point ago

Or Duplos! It bugs me to no end when people call Duplos, Legos. Yes, they're made by the same company, but they're not the same at all. (Duplos vs. Legos: http://static-1.worthingtondirect.com/images/duplo_lego.jpg)

[–]LordPhallus 0 points1 point ago

I've never noticed the difference between the two in my entire life. Seriously, what the fuck are you guys complaining about now?

[–]MisterDonkey -2 points-1 points ago

*Lego

[–]MyNameIsHax 1 point2 points ago

Sort of how it shouldn't be allowed that you capitalize the first letter of every word in a sentence?

[–]TheHerbalGerbil -1 points0 points ago

It’s called a title.

[–]ZOlDBERG -1 points0 points ago

They need a giant label on the megablocks that says "attention! These aren't Legos"

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]ReddHerring -2 points-1 points ago

Seriously shut up.

The term "Legos" is common slang (in the US anyway) for "Lego bricks". Like it or not, if information was successfully communicated then the word served it's purpose.

[–]DubstepCheetah -1 points0 points ago

Megablock will always be better to me. Fuck the hivemind. The pirate and halo series rule everything

[–]bulletbillx 4 points5 points ago

Lego had a kick ass pirate series.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Pirates

http://www.lego.com/piratesofthecaribbean/en-us/Default.aspx now they have a PotC series but it isn't the same imo.

[–]ThatIsMyHat 0 points1 point ago

I've always wanted a tiny plastic Johnny Depp.

[–]kotszak 0 points1 point ago

My son plays with it every day for 2 years now. And sings pirate songs when building stuff. I tried to give him other Lego but he doesn't care for it. Only the pirate stuff. Epic sea battles are taking place in my house.

Keep this stuff away from children it's like drugs to them.

[–]bulletbillx 0 points1 point ago

What if you introduced him to the pirate vs ninja conflict as shown in many internet arguments. Because the ninja lego are awesome too.

[–]Coolstorylucas 2 points3 points ago

I was afraid I was the only person who didn't mind mega blocks as a kid. I came from a single mother so whenever she bought me megablocks I flipped and then made all the cool stuff.

[–]Nightsky07 -1 points0 points ago

I always wanted Legos but I was stuck with Mega Blocks. I never understood why I couldn't have Legos.

[–]ThatIsMyHat 1 point2 points ago

Because your parents didn't love. It's the only possible reason.

[–]Nightsky07 -1 points0 points ago

Very true. or just didn't know what legos were.

[–]omgoffensiveguy 0 points1 point ago

Because your parents realized you were too fucking retarded and called LEGO 'legos' and therefore didn't deserve them, knowing one day you'd shame yourself in front of the entire internet by calling them that on reddit due to their depriving you of decent toys.

[–]Nightsky07 1 point2 points ago

Very true.

[–]ArtDuck 0 points1 point ago

I refer you to my earlier reply to you.

You horrible excuse for a human being.

[–]lWantYourDownvote -2 points-1 points ago

so i heard legos and megablocks are the same thing

[–]creammytaco -2 points-1 points ago

Oh you saw that family guy episode?

[–]ReddHerring -1 points0 points ago

Peter: You got Legos? Aw, sweet! Lois only buys me Mega Bloks.

Lois: They're the same thing, Peter.

Peter: You know what, Lois? They are not the same thing. And the sooner you get that through your thick skull, the sooner we can get this marriage back on track.

[–]jaavaa 0 points1 point ago

Mega Blocks?

Do you even lift?

More like PowerBlock, brahs.

[–]TurdFurgeson22 -2 points-1 points ago

This was litterally a f7u12 comic on the front page TODAY. I'm not one to bitch about reposting 99% of the time, but the exact same joke on the front page twice in one day...

[–]Margot23 -1 points0 points ago

I personally LOVED my Mega Blocks. I also LOVED my Lego Duplo set. Bigger blocks meant bigger buildings. I made goddamned forts.

[–]Tranger -3 points-2 points ago

Shit you guys... I knew my shit when using legos and MB and had lots of fun.

[–]julianface -3 points-2 points ago

The horse is dead. Stop beating it.

[–]deanstreat -3 points-2 points ago

Anyone who's ever stepped on a lego will never make this mistake.

[–]rothgnar -1 points0 points ago

if apple owned lego this wouldn't be an issue. no other blocks.

I used to trade legos with friends. When I would make a trade for lots of basic 4x2 blocks or something, I would inspect each brick. One. By. One. Megablocks were UNACCEPTABLE.

you do not understand. i saw STAR WARS Mega blocks that looked EXACTLY like legos. i wanted to call patent infringement or something.

Except with Mega Bloks, they either refuse to stick together entirely, or fuse with the force of a thousand men. Not the same thing.

lol I knew a man child would bite.... Just playing Legos are the shit.

It's the way they fit are molded and the quality of plastic. Also lego imo based on experience/anecdotal evidence is checked better for defects.
