Seems like a pretty legitimate reason to be upset.

[–]devilishlyhomely 191 points192 points ago

I had this same reaction. Exchange cat or dog for pony and you'll have a Reddit Riot on your hands.

[–]onyeasy 28 points29 points ago

Actually, you'd have the other half of /r/aww

[–]ConnorLovesCookies 16 points17 points ago

I found this lost kitten in my neighbors house. Good thing I rescued them.

[–]Chinamerican 0 points1 point ago

My thoughts exactly

[–]C_IsForCookie 13 points14 points ago

Was my first thought. If I had a pony, and someone stole it, I'd be sad too.

[–]Rosalee 4 points5 points ago

Yes, losing any animal is traumatic and in the case of ponies, I'd be afraid it had gone as meat.

[–]adtaylor 2 points3 points ago

I've had one of my horses stolen... I went to war.

[–]C_IsForCookie 2 points3 points ago

Were you captured by your own army only to get away to attempt to save your murdered family, sold into slavery, fought your way to the top, only to kill the emperor who once attempted to kill you?

Who hasn't, bro...

[–]adtaylor 0 points1 point ago

Yup. It's a hard life...

[–]adtaylor 0 points1 point ago

wait what o_o

[–]Barnowl79 34 points35 points ago

I usually laugh at first world problems, but I can't bring myself to laugh at a weeping little girl who had her pony stolen. It's not a tragedy, but it probably meant the world to her. I had three little sisters and they would have all given anything to have a pony. Everyone's problems are relative, and there's always someone who has it worse or better than you.

[–]The_Pony_Rapist 4 points5 points ago

I'd be pissed too if someone stole my horse.

[–]jbuckets89 14 points15 points ago

Let's hope no one in r/spaceclop got their hands on it..

[–]Chirox82 270 points271 points ago

I, for one, would be very sad if someone were to steal my pony.

[–]zogzor 25 points26 points ago

We can only hope that it made some attempt to resist or, at the very least, annoy it's captors.

[–]misterwhite999 58 points59 points ago

It would be The. Worst. Possible. Thing!

[–]0takuSharkGuy 10 points11 points ago

I'd get that pony back in 10 seconds flat.

[–]chotix 8 points9 points ago

Whaaaaaaaaaaat? I really mean it this time!

[–]penguin93 4 points5 points ago

The whining, it hurts!

[–]flutt3r5hy 5 points6 points ago

Uhm...Rarity...if you could calm down just a bit...I mean...if you want to...

[–]chotix 5 points6 points ago

I love our fandom <3

[–]llII 20 points21 points ago

[–]RiPotato 9 points10 points ago

[–]GeKorn 4 points5 points ago

Yes i did.

[–]xarlev -1 points0 points ago

No. Nobody did.

[–]Nasty_kid 0 points1 point ago

Lol it 'twas already bound to happen

[–]brickler 18 points19 points ago

Hopefully the criminals responsible will be captured, and that poor pony returned unharmed.

[–]johnmedgla 66 points67 points ago

You would, but you'll be even sadder to learn that this picture is so old, the pony was found, died of old age, and was sent to the glue factory. The 'little girl' is now a grandmother, and her grand kids are allergic to ponies. It's an intergenerational tragedy.

[–]Archaeoptero 15 points16 points ago

That was actually...more amusing than sad.

[–]spgtothemax 0 points1 point ago

Can someone explain this horseflies thing?

[–]pony-detector 28 points29 points ago

beep

[–]Lottanubs 8 points9 points ago

I like you. You're like an adorable, miniature Geiger counter.

[–]ExtraCheesed_Buddha 4 points5 points ago

Don't worry you have my word that I will not personally steal your pony

[–]abasss 6 points7 points ago

Someone stole "my" horse when I was 7. Not cool man, not cool.

(it wasn't mine, it was in my grandpa's farm, and I rode it when I went to visit)

(or maybe it died and they told me it was stolen)

[–]chotix 7 points8 points ago

<3

[–]21orBust 181 points182 points ago

This is a little fucked up. Laugh all you want, but odds are that little girl spent every day with her pony, brushing, feeding, riding, etc. This would be as bad (if not worse) than having your dog stolen.

[–]Bardlar 40 points41 points ago

Equally emotionally crushing and financially, probably a fair bit worse. I'm no expert in how much ponies go for, but I don't think dogs and cats come even close.

[–]bobbieluvsya 19 points20 points ago

Unless the dog or cat is some sort of crazy rare purebred, you would be correct. According to the first result when I google "how much is a pony" (A page delightfully titled Buying Your Child's First Pony FAQ, by the way) just to buy a suitable first pony is 1000 dollars or more. And that's not even counting costs of care and things.

[–]cuppincayk 16 points17 points ago

Yes. Especially if you don't have your own ranch, you'll have to rent a stable. Usually girls will teach riding lessons to help pay for the cost, and often do this to even buy their first horse/pony. There was this terrible story the other day about this girl who had saved up for ages to buy a horse and then found it shot dead in her back yard. People are assholes.

[–]bobbieluvsya 12 points13 points ago

People are assholes! Like, why would you go out of your way to do that sort of thing? :(

[–]Nobby_Nobbs 3 points4 points ago

I prefer to not think of them as people. It makes my day a little bit better to not associate myself with them.

[–]zolfe 2 points3 points ago

Unfortunately not thinking they are people allows you to justify some seriously bad shit against them. I prefer to acknowledge that people have the capability of being complete and utter assholes.

[–]Woftles 3 points4 points ago

That's more than a good computer. All I have to do with my computer is open it up and dust it out once in a while.

[–]bobbieluvsya 1 point2 points ago

That's more than a lot of things- the financial blow alone would be dreadful.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I had to chuckle at a thousand dollars. Maybe a thousand for a backyard pony to poke around on. If that pony was for going to shows with, it's much more likely to have been anywhere between 15 000 and 250 000+ dollars. :(

[–]bobbieluvsya 4 points5 points ago

Jesus H. Christ, do you know how many kittens I could buy with 250,000 dollars? A LOT OF KITTENS.

At any rate, the site I found was for your child's first pony, so it's probably a backyard poking-around pony.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Oh, you would be so surprised. Unfortunately I get to work around a lot of these super rich horse owners and it's really not unusual for the kid's first pony to be a former national champion (or close to it). It means the kid is likely to be able to win a lot. That seems to be important for a lot of people.

I also should say that horse/pony theft seems to be quite common in the US. I haven't heard of it being common in any other place, though.

[–]counting_kittens 3 points4 points ago

Ha! $1000!?! That wouldn't get you board, feed, and vet for more than a few months. It would also only get you the car equivalent of a 20-yr old Saturn with no engine. Expect 4-5k for an ok horse with minimal, if any, training and more like 15-20k for an ok horse with training. (this is for a horse that you would show). Of course you could probably get an old horse to trot around on trails occasionally for free, but like I said before, boarding, feeding, and caring for a horse is hella expensive.

Source: my parents love my sister more than me.

[–]Golden-Calf 4 points5 points ago

I paid $1000 for my horse. She's fucking fantastic, thank you very much! She's no Saturn. :(

[–]counting_kittens 0 points1 point ago

Well perhaps you purchased your horse in an extremely different market or got very lucky. Either way, congrats!

[–]bobbieluvsya 2 points3 points ago

That should be the source for everything on reddit.

And I was just going off what Google told me. Are you saying Google would lie? (Actually, it said for your child's first pony, so maybe it's the same sort of principle as getting your 16-year-old a cheapass car or something? I wouldn't know, my parents loved our cats more than either of us.)

[–]donutsalad 1 point2 points ago

I thought that 1k was a lot, but 15k-20k? That's like 70 percent of my annual income. Fuck that. Even if I was wealthy, I wouldn't drop 1k or more for a damn pet unless it was a mountain lion that could dance and sing show tunes.

[–]diuge 3 points4 points ago

a mountain lion that could dance and sing show tunes

Time to start a savings fund.

[–]counting_kittens 1 point2 points ago

Very nice, extremely well trained and physically capable horses sell for millions (both show and race) and there is everything in between.

[–]donutsalad 2 points3 points ago

Yeah and buying an expensive horse just for the use as a pet is like buying an expensive gaming computer just to play minesweeper.

[–]counting_kittens 1 point2 points ago

Oh, I'm not talking about pet horses. I said earlier you could probably get a horse for free if you just wanted a pet horse. If you wanted to use it for work or to compete with it you could end up spending a lot, depending on what you want out of it.

If you want to play minesweeper, get a cheap computer. If you want to host the SAP database of a Fortune 50 company you will need quite the server farm. It's the same with horses.

[–]ultrachris 0 points1 point ago

I still don't think I'd pay a million for a horse, even if it could run minesweeper.

[–]counting_kittens 0 points1 point ago

Well, those horses can earn many more millions. Like the server in my example, high cost, high reward. Although there is a bit more risk involved with the horse.

[–]cyberthief -1 points0 points ago

My friends stud fee on her horse Bravo, the Oldenburg is $4500.00 . I paid 2500 for my Quarterhorse, she was 4 years old and had 3 months of pro training. Her training was 875. per month. I lucked out and got full board for 150 a month. If someone stole her i would be sick.

[–]frystes 1 point2 points ago

Emotional attachment go beyond money you know ? Losing a pet is a little like loosing a family member, never a happy moment :/

[–]bakerie 1 point2 points ago

Does financially come into this? I've had many pets, but the ones that really got me, and I could nearly talk to, I'd easily give my left leg for.

[–]jxj24 0 points1 point ago

I think you are correct.

I have been racking my brain and I simply can not recall ever seeing a sign reading "FREE PONIES".

[–]Caiur 1 point2 points ago

It seems like a cross between having your dog and your car stolen. :/

[–]Suntimehappy 0 points1 point ago

it's a few thousand dollars worse

[–]voNlKONov 0 points1 point ago

Every time I recommend this site to someone I hate myself a little more.

[–]Ragnalypse 209 points210 points ago

TIL that having your pet stolen is a "white girl" problem.

[–]BigSwedenMan 44 points45 points ago

I know tons of white girls, but the only girl I know who owns any kind of horse is Hispanic.

[–]BryanBeast13 16 points17 points ago

We like horses

[–]bakerie 3 points4 points ago

I like marine reptiles.

[–]BryanBeast13 0 points1 point ago

Cool like which ones?

[–]bakerie 1 point2 points ago

Tortoise.

[–]rockoblocko 0 points1 point ago

I was under the impression that tortoises live on land, and turtles in water.

[–]buster2Xk 1 point2 points ago

They're both amphibious.

[–]Lampjaw 1 point2 points ago

I like this thread.

[–]Tiktaky 1 point2 points ago

The only girl I know with a horse is Vietnamese. All my white girl friends have spiders and goats.

[–]DrInfested 43 points44 points ago

Yeah I feel weird saying this as a white male, but I actually felt a little offended by the title. I mean, the girl lost her pony and she's sad about it. She could live on a farm, or work with animals, but the assumption is that she's a rich (read white) girl who owns her own pony.

All I can think is, poor little girl. It's terrible to lose any kind of pet. :(

[–]Bloodfeastisleman 1 point2 points ago

IIRC this what 4chan called "first world problems" before they became politically correct.

[–]Personsen 14 points15 points ago

I don't know who this pony stealer is... But I will find them... And I will kill them.

[–]Iplayroblox 33 points34 points ago

If you have a dog or cat or some other pet, imagine it being stolen.

[–]AATroop 9 points10 points ago

Then imagine your dog or cat is worth 100x more.

A pony is a serious fucking investment. It'd be like someone stealing your car, which I would most certainly cry over.

[–]chotix 6 points7 points ago

A car that you cuddle with.

[–]Crallium 32 points33 points ago

I would be pretty upset if someone stole my pony, to be completely honest.

[–]061342 13 points14 points ago

That, and they can get pricey.

[–]Crallium 8 points9 points ago

Yeah, and that's just for any old pony. The rare/pure breeds can get as high as a couple million dollars!

[–]RiPotato 10 points11 points ago

I'M SEEING THESE PONY FACES IN THE COMMENTS AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO MAKE OF IT

[–]Crallium 10 points11 points ago

IT'S A SIGN FOR YOU TO WATCH MY LITTLE PONY.

[–]garychencool 4 points5 points ago

OKAY

[–][deleted] 64 points65 points ago

Yeah, like every white girl owns a pony.

[–]Cohiba 4 points5 points ago

According to Horseproperties.net:

One of the most powerful conclusions of this survey is that there is no such thing as an average American horse owner. Horse owners come from all economic backgrounds, own all types of horses for various purposes and live in a variety of places from tiny towns to large cities.

• The economic diversity of the American horse owner disproves the commonly held belief that significant wealth is a prerequisite for horse ownership. The largest group of horse owners (45%) are drawn from the middle class with an annual household income between $25,000 and $75,000. Only 9% of the population earns greater than $150,000 yearly and a full 11% of horse owners have an annual income of less than $25,000.

• Horses are also found in all types of communities from rural to urban. The majority of horses (57%) are concentrated in communities with less than 20,000 people. Cities also have a significant number of animals with 26% of horses residing in areas with population densities of over 50,000.

• The study has found that horse ownership appeals to people of all ages. The most horse owners (41%) are between the ages of 45 and 59. The 30-44 age bracket is the next most significant group with 35% of horses. The youngest demographic (18-29) is also coming on strong and owns 16% of all horses in America .

Nothing about race sadly.

[–]CatalystParadox 1 point2 points ago

FFS people, how many different ways are you all going to deliberately misunderstand this thing to avoid just taking it for what it is - a kinda lame-ish joke that relies on untrue stereotypes?

[–]tricky3737 47 points48 points ago

I didn't know she had a pony. How was I to know she had a pony? Who figures an immigrant's going to have a pony? Do you know what the odds are on that? I mean, in all the pictures I saw of immigrants on boats coming into New York harbor, I never saw one of them sitting on a pony. Why would anybody come here if they had a pony? Who leaves a country packed with ponies to come to a non-pony country? It doesn't make sense.. am I wrong?

[–]misterwhite999 13 points14 points ago

it's not often I see a Seinfeld quote on here

[–]winkandthegun 11 points12 points ago

Reddit in 1996 would've been full of them.

[–]fetus_eater_skywalka 4 points5 points ago

Reddit in 2012 is full of them.

[–]brittanysodd 8 points9 points ago

I was looking for this!! If you hadn't written it I would! Love Seinfeld

[–]Delaywaves 0 points1 point ago

Link for the confused. (But seriously, start watching this show if you haven't already.)

[–]Mazrath 1 point2 points ago

I hate anyone who ever had a pony growing up!

[–]f3tch 29 points30 points ago

Who steals a pony from a little girl? That's just messed up.

[–]wintrparkgrl 14 points15 points ago

bronies

[–]flutt3r5hy 6 points7 points ago

Well thanks a lot...

[–]wakewolfie 8 points9 points ago

I would cry like hell if someone stole my dog.

[–]Erich_Honecker_ 1 point2 points ago

I would literally not stop till I found and retrieved my dog.

No sleep until I collapsed, and the second I awoke I would be off again

[–]bluesmurf 34 points35 points ago

I don't understand whats so funny about this, I'm sure a lot of people would be upset if they lost their dog or cat, the same way this girl is upset about losing her pony.

[–]Maybe_Forged 4 points5 points ago

Ghostcrawler promised us a pony.

He is a jerk

[–]joeyignorant 0 points1 point ago

[–]RemedyofRevenge 8 points9 points ago

He's got a point here. I'd admit to that.

[–]stemgang 14 points15 points ago

Only non-whites deserve sympathy.

Fuck this crying little girl!

Who cares if her pony got stolen and she is heart-broken.

/s

[–]HTFU69 7 points8 points ago

I want a pony... :(

[–]AcelnTheWhole 1 point2 points ago

Rather a stallion. Name it Abelard, gotta be hey black then we can ride around shooting arrows at things

[–]viper9172 0 points1 point ago

Yes. This. So much this. I love that goddamn book.

[–]AcelnTheWhole 0 points1 point ago

I was hoping people would get this.

[–]viper9172 0 points1 point ago

Personally, I'd prefer Tug over Abelard. Abelard just seems like he is getting into his older years, like Halt, but nonetheless powerful.

[–]AcelnTheWhole 0 points1 point ago

Well yeah I like Tug. But Abelard seems more like noble. And bad ass. But he's like a jagan unit from fire emblem

[–]viper9172 0 points1 point ago

Agreed.

[–]Skootenbeeten 13 points14 points ago

Ahh yes it's only racist if you are white, almost forgot we invented that too.

[–]Ancel3 9 points10 points ago

I happen to own four mini horses. (Close to ponies, not quite the same.)

One of them being stolen would be a really big deal. Those things aren't cheap you know, plus the time and effort you need to put in to take care of them.

If this girl had her pony stolen, she has a good reason to cry. You don't just pick up a pony and walk away, you have to bring a trailer in and haul it away without them noticing. It had to be planned. Somebody planned to steal her pony, HER pony.

They had to know where she kept her pony, when she was away, how to get to her house, it had to be somebody that she knew. Somebody she knew and trusted plotted and worked to steal her little pony, and that sounds like a pretty damn good reason to cry and call the police/news.

[–]kolm 9 points10 points ago

That from a site where every dead dog is given a monument.

[–]trampus1 14 points15 points ago

This is a shitty photoshop, here's the original.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points ago

Oh, this isn't funny but turning a down syndrome girl into a meme is funny, right? Cut this shit out, reddit.

[–]Erich_Honecker_ 0 points1 point ago

Because everyone on reddit thought that was acceptable?

Yeah, right

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Oh, I apologize. I guess I should have been more clear, please ignore my comment if you didn't criticize OP, or if you did, but weren't being hypocritical by thinking that the aforementioned meme was funny.

There we go, happy?

[–]Carty75 6 points7 points ago

Nope, nothing funny about seeing a girl crying because some prick has stolen her pet.

[–]icansnapmyfingers 3 points4 points ago

Wait..So White Girls get ponies? WHERE THE HELL IS MY PONY?

[–]memetunis 0 points1 point ago

[–]playaplayadog 2 points3 points ago

Anyone commenting in an offended matter has got to be a cracka. Lmao. This is so funny.

[–]One_Eyed_Willy 8 points9 points ago

She looks like Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka.

[–]linhmonade 4 points5 points ago

She did want a pony.

[–]mackenziethelazy 2 points3 points ago

Oh, is it "hate white people" time? Give me a fucking break.

[–]horses_in_the_sky 4 points5 points ago

all the time is "hate minorities" time, can we have a break from that?

[–]Bob_the_Orc 1 point2 points ago

Maybe we could look into stopping all hate but that just wouldn't feel as nice.

[–]AcelnTheWhole 0 points1 point ago

In time some hope

[–]MissMister 2 points3 points ago

Poor girl. I would be devastated if I had my kitty stolen. That's crushing.

[–]ruta_skadi 2 points3 points ago

I didn't think this was funny the first time I saw it, either.

[–]kobaland 5 points6 points ago

Yes, because every white girl has a pony

[–]BrainSlurper 3 points4 points ago

It is hand delivered by mitt romney upon receiving your whiteness certificate.

[–]munnyfish 1 point2 points ago

man ponies are like.....$1000+ so i would cry evry tim if that happened

[–]twokidsinamansuit 2 points3 points ago

Why is reddit so high and mighty today? You know... jokes are only as serious as you make them. They are meant to be taken somewhat ridiculously. I laughed, and don't feel bad at all.

[–]05bella1 4 points5 points ago

crazy how reddit turns into srs as soon as its a joke against white people.

[–]arthurardvark1 1 point2 points ago

Dang it! Now I only have 4 ponies!

[–]kzak104 0 points1 point ago

seeing as how a "pony" can be worth up to $50 000+ ya, id be crying to. not to mention people bond with their horses

[–]joeyignorant 0 points1 point ago

rich white people problems

[–]enjoime33 0 points1 point ago

If you havin pony problems I feel bad for you son, I got 99 problems but a mule ain't one.

[–]Scarfington 0 points1 point ago

As a white girl, I am now enraged at the fact that I do not own a pony, since it is clearly a requisite of being a white girl.

[–]awnomnomnom -1 points0 points ago

[–]ineedpancakes 0 points1 point ago

OMG this is so old.

[–]Beastmon142 0 points1 point ago

Sir I'm going to need your license and registration because this is a F**KING REPOST

[–]kinisonkhan 0 points1 point ago

This was funny several years ago, and without the title.

[–]Asylumgirl15 0 points1 point ago

There was recently a 5 year old who saved up every bit of money he had for 2 years, bought and older horse, and woke up one morning and found it had been shot. I think someone's horse being stolen is more like having someone shoot your dog. If losing a pet is a white girl problem then, fuck you that's what.

[–]fufai_ter 0 points1 point ago

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I think the OP means rich girl problems.

[–]pearlexp1999 0 points1 point ago

Finally I found ONE post that says this. I was thinking maybe a 1% joke would be good too.

[–]HustlerThug 0 points1 point ago

Grand theft Amish.

[–]penguin93 -1 points0 points ago

So we can laugh at this little white girl having her pony stolen but if I post a picture of a black guy crying in front of a KFC that just burnt down in the ghetto i'm the racist.

[–]jeffydomer 1 point2 points ago

Imagine how we'd react if someone stole our computers...

[–]Nobby_Nobbs -1 points0 points ago

Oh yeah, like you should be A-okay! with having your pet stolen. A fucking expensive pet, at that. Also, this was reposted with the exact same title it had last time.

Fuck off, grasshopper.

[–]jzzanthapuss 1 point2 points ago

this newscast aired in 2004

[–]chateauPyrex 1 point2 points ago

[–]jupka96 -1 points0 points ago

I've seen this all over the Internet already :/

[–]Xatana 0 points1 point ago

Hahahaha so funny, white racism. Bet it would get downvoted to shit if I posted "Black Girl Problems" and posted a single mother in the ghetto.
