Well, reddit is pretty much the worlds most efficient soap box. I don't know any other place on the internet where I can get as big of an audience on a regular basis.

If I make a joke in /r/AdviceAnimals that hits the front page and gets like 500.000 pageviews, I know that something I did made thousands of people all around the world stop for a second and chuckle. Who knows, maybe someone out there had a really shitty day and my joke helped brighten it up just a little bit. That actually makes me feel good about myself.

Maybe I write a ten paragraph comment in some post that is thoughtful enough that someone out there changes their opinion on something? Or perhaps learns something useful that they didn't know about. In some small way, I like to think that I'm contributing to improving the world by sharing my thoughts like this. Maybe that's a form of hubris, I don't know, but I'd like to think that I have things to say that matter, and ideas worth sharing.

It doesn't really matter that I'll never get to meet any of them. The idea of being able to project yourself and your ideas across the entire globe and influencing other people, no matter how miniscule or vague that influence might be, is a pretty damn powerful thing.

Sort of true but the things said on reddit are like waves in the universe because you can never un-do ideas. There are things on reddit daily that effect many peoples lifes rather than just the karma or views behind the subjects. Its not the systems fault for how you as an individual use it. Reddit is a tool for whatever you want it to be thats the beauty of it.

Never understood the fascination with reddit karma. I couldn't care less about it. I don't even know how it works exactly. But see all the time people bitching about reposts being karma-whoring. Isn't this supposed to be a social bookmarking site? Are we supposed to share stuff we like/dislike/think is worth sharing? Who the fuck cares if it is a repost.
