There are cars in the aqueduct!

[–]matebeatscoffee 21 points22 points ago

I think it represents how exploration builds bridges between places and how people can then expand themselves... Or something.

[–]broden 23 points24 points ago

The right three ships are ships, the left stuff is bridge. Checkmate evolutionists.

[–]fuluffel 10 points11 points ago

The artist is Rob Gonsalves. If you like his stuff there are at least three books available with his paintings set to poems by Sarah L. Thomson.

"Imagine a Day", "Imagine a Night", and "Imagine a Place".

e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Imagine-Night-Sarah-L-Thomson/dp/0689852185

[–]someguywithanaccount 4 points5 points ago

This is correct. It is not Escher or any of the other artists mentioned. Here's a link to the art on his website.

I own all three of those. They're amazing.

[–]strumpster 0 points1 point ago

Love this guy

[–]FinderOfNemo 2 points3 points ago

I've had a book of optical illusions ever since I can remember. This was the cover.

[–]jimmy9800 2 points3 points ago

I have the same book! There are several even stranger than this in there.

[–]amoliski 1 point2 points ago

I had that book too. I really loved it, I need to find it now!

[–]amoliski 0 points1 point ago

Yep, that's it. Just ordered myself a copy, thanks!

[–]cjstop 2 points3 points ago

Last time I saw this was in grade school... No clue where though. Brought back weird memories.

This is one of the reasons we don't want xpost tags. People already give it in the comments.

[–]HumanistGeek 0 points1 point ago

... I only linked to that subreddit in case people wanted to visit it but were too lazy to type it into their address bar. I only knew of it because OP mentioned it in the post title.

[–]Residue42 points 0 hours ago 0 points1 point ago

Well, yours is very exceptional.

[–]SidewaysToaster 4 points5 points ago

Reminds me a lot of Coronado Bridge in San Diego.

[–]imjesusbitchRasta man 4 points5 points ago

Factoid about that bridge: It was intended to be short and straight but they lengthened it to qualify for federal funding.

[–]G0nePhishin 1 point2 points ago

where could I get a print or poster of this?

[–]ionineHappy trees 0 points1 point ago

Rob Gonsalves, Sun Sets Sail.

http://www.paragonfineart.com/artists/rob-gonsalves.html

It's sold out but you can shoot him an email.

[–]G0nePhishin 4 points5 points ago

Thanks, I want to get this and the Light Flurries I love the surreal esher-like feel to the art along with his juxtaposition of civilization against nature. I believe this is the first artist who's work has truly spoken to me.

[–]ionineHappy trees -2 points-1 points ago

Indeed, this really does remind me of my childhood fascination with Escher and his works. Even thought it was Escher for a second.

[–]darkwavechickNyanyanyana -1 points0 points ago

I have a book with this as a cover that is all about optical illusions.

[–]JacobCurryNeat! 1 point2 points ago

Holy ship.

[–]P47RICK 0 points1 point ago

I saw this in a chain email years ago lol

[–]Residue42 points 0 hours ago 0 points1 point ago

Agreed, but still doesn't make it less cool. I wasn't looking at them high those days. (What if it was a high guy sending those mails to reach other high people?! Woah.)

[–]igetdownvotedalotShroom initiate 0 points1 point ago

Mindfuuuuuck.

[–]bo0ze 0 points1 point ago

Said "whoa" out loud. It's working...it's working!!!

[–]DoctorSandwich 0 points1 point ago

weird, my parents have this painting hanging in their living room!

[–]Residue42 points 0 hours ago 0 points1 point ago

It was your house's painting when you were a kid. Right?

[–]DoctorSandwich 0 points1 point ago

They got it after I'd already left for college, but it's the house I grew up in, yeah.

[–]ImurderREALITYBong ripper 0 points1 point ago

This is so cool! Overused gif here

[–]queka 0 points1 point ago

I think I found my new timeline cover

[–]ZephyrBiscuitHappy trees 0 points1 point ago

wut? [9]

[–]chreezishNyanyanyana 0 points1 point ago

I'm pretty sure it's a viaduct...not an aqueduct? Or am I being special? 0.o

[–]fujifisher 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was a bridge? But I know nothing of water contraptions

[–]YourMayansMayVanish -1 points0 points ago

I love Jethro Tull!

Sitting on the park bench.. Hey aqueduct!

[–]wanderjahr -2 points-1 points ago

Vladimir Kush, awesome artist.

EDIT: provided link

[–]freekshough 2 points3 points ago

reminds me of mc ecsher.

[–]Taxyback 1 point2 points ago

That's it, I'm changing my name

[–]banananapancakes 0 points1 point ago

I thought it was MC esher or echer, a dutch guy. Don't know or sure.
