Excellent point.

It's not completely useless. The idea is that the energy of the fire will work on evaporating the water instead of consuming the fuel that is the building's materials.

A fire needs fuel, heat, and a chemical reaction in order to develop and persist. All firefighting techniques aim to remove one or more of these elements to control or eliminate the blaze. The most common and effective approach is to remove heat, and the simplest way to do that is to apply water.

Soaking the walls adjacent to the fire will have the effect of cooling the surfaces, and requiring more energy from the fire to heat them up to the point where the self sustaining chemical reaction of the fire could take place, preventing the fire from spreading, or at least buying time before a more robust attack strategy can be undertaken.

Looking back my actions that directly affect my life I am probably lawful neutral. When you look at my actions and influences on other people then I tend towards chaotic neutral.

Fun story, I was a at a bar with my best friend (we will call him Jim). Jim introduced me to his friend (we will call him Will). Jim and Will knew each other from work. I thought Will was a douche bag and proceeded to ignore/avoid him as much as possible for the rest of the night. Eventually Will figures out I am avoiding him and he corners me and calls me out stating something along the lines of I"ll prove myself to you, I"ll kick anyone's ass in this bar for you to prove I am a good guy/your friend."

Right at that moment Jim came back to the table with a round of drinks. I simply pointed to Jim and I said him. Will starts back peddling and fast (Jim is a big guy, 6ft 4in and a solid 185-190lbs and a former marine to boot.) Will starts sputtering excuses about work etc. I look at Jim and I say "Jim, kick Will's ass." Jim walks around the table lifts Will out of his chair and pins him to the wall about 6 inches off the ground by Will's neck. Jim looks and me and asks "What is going on?" I tell Jim "Just proving a point, you can drop him now."

Jim told me the next couple of weeks at work were a little awkward. They are still friends and the half dozen times I have met will since then he has never been a douche bag.
