  2. No gore or porn. NSFW content must be tagged.

  3. No personal information. This includes anything hosted on Facebook's servers, as they can be traced to the original account holder. Stalking & harassment will not be tolerated.

  4. No solicitation of votes (including "cake day" posts), posts with their sole purpose being to communicate with another redditor, or [FIXED] posts. DAE posts go in /r/DoesAnybodyElse. "Fixed" posts should be added as a comment to the original image.

I live near Gudvangen, hell, even been there a couple of times to visit the Viking Village and I can confirm that that picture does not show Gudvangen at all.

This is Gudvangen and as you can see, there is no lake behind and the mountains are not even remotely as jagged as in that picture.

Edit: Some internet searching seem to reveal that a lot of people think it is from Gudvangen but as redditor Taliesyn30 comments: It is indeed Lofoten. Not Gudvangen.. Lofoten is way up in northern norway and Gudvangen is in western norway.

My favorite area of Norway also. Especially when flying over the area. Only comparable places are to the north from Tromso and towards Alta but a bit more barren which I like because most of my life I have been living in Estonia among woods and level ground.

Viking Village? Details please!

Well, Gudvangen is a historically old town stead that includes a lot of archaeological proof of being an important staging point of many viking expeditions (raids, merchant-fares, etc).

The viking village (or "market") is basically a reconstruction of that and you get to dress up, participate and immerse in a reconstruction of how life was at that time. Including smithing, doing archery, food and even journey on a genuine, reconstructed longboat across the fjord!

A couple of guys in our company made some 'adjustments' to 2bn's CoA.

(Joke explanation: Their CoA normally says "Viker for Ingen"(Yield for no one). We changed it to "Viker for Ingbn"(Yield for INGBN)). INGBN is the abbreviation for the Engineer Battalion.)

I know Gud means God, but I'm not sure what "vangen" means. Doing what Norwegians usually do, I'll just say it a bit Englishy when translating resulting in the following translation; "God's wang".

Gud does indeed mean "God" and a "Vang" is a modern word (now in disuse) of the old norse Vangr, which means a grass field/meadow. The -en is the same as saying "The Meadow" so it's basically "The Meadow of God".

Then again, that's is not Gudvangen (as previously said) - it's Lofoten. Which is the Lynx's foot (Lo is an old, disused word for lynx and fot is, you guessed it, a foot."

Not really. If I ever went there I'd be worrying about exactly that. Still, most of us living in smaller towns here in Norway have at least access to ADSL which nowadays can reach anything from 2mbit to 35mbit. Mine isn't quite so small, so I've got VDSL @ 50mbit.

Btw that's not Gudvangen, it's Lofoten :)

It is often like that in small villages in Norway. Red paint was the cheapest in the old days, therefore mostly used, and it has stayed that way.
