I always use these and have yet to cut a finger off... http://i.imgur.com/REHq9.jpg

I use the knife version of the mat knife, yea just cut away and watch fingers. I have one of those bluetooths, I could make a video of me opening it! That amazon was just the first that came up, you can usually get them for less than $5

You dare tempt fate?!

[–]DeNeil10[S] 0 points1 point ago

Will keep in mind, thanks!

I have yet to try this, but if you happen to have a heavy duty paper cutter (not those dinky little sliding things) around or at work, those could possible help

[–]osta2501 6 points7 points ago

Can opener.

[–]le_bravery 2 points3 points ago

Tried this today. Didn't work.

[–]osta2501 -1 points0 points ago

Scissors are still the best. I use scissors. I only recomended the can opener as per apparently the best alternative to scissors.

Buy some m-80's.

[–]noggernogger 3 points4 points ago

Don't buy cheapo scissors and you will be fine. Kitchen scissors are the best, if you want you can even get full metal ones.

[–]GodofWar224 4 points5 points ago

Cut around the cardboard. and only cut two sides so you don't end up doing the whole rectangle.

[–]BTMF 6 points7 points ago

I use this, it is great.

Edit:I have seen that several people have posted about can openers, box cutters, and chainsaws (seriously?). Yes this is a plug for a commercial product but it works every time, with minimal effort, and is a legitimate answer to the op's question. So seriously if you find yourself opening this type of package once every few months or more then, IMO, this purchase will more than make up for its cost.

Came to post this. This is THE tool to have on Christmas.

[–]im_not_lying_i_swear 2 points3 points ago

At first I was all "shameless crappy product plug!" But then I watched it and damn, that thing seems pretty well thought out. Like, really well. Might have to pick one up now... might.

[–]BTMF 2 points3 points ago

Shameless, yes. Crappy, no. I never use the screwdriver parts though but it honestly is worth the purchase.

[–]mgordonb 3 points4 points ago

I take a box cutter and cut around the edge on the back side, then i can just peel off the back

[–]WhatABeautifulMess 12 points13 points ago

Might not work on some shapes but a can opener will work most times

[–]bobroberts7441 5 points6 points ago

I have tried and it NEVER works for me.

[–]JimmyMcShiv 3 points4 points ago

I was so excited when I saw this the first time. Never worked.

[–]DeNeil10[S] 3 points4 points ago

Wow thanks!

[–]callmetom 1 point2 points ago

I find the can-opener trick to be BS and have always had the most luck using a box cutter pushing down from the top and cutting around the product. Of course, not everyone carries a box cutter with them, but a sharp pocket knife should work as well.

[–]tkisling 1 point2 points ago

I cut right around the product with a knife

[–]Mike_Facking_Jones 0 points1 point ago

Sharpen your scissors

[–]cutthroattrick 0 points1 point ago

Use a can opener

[–]ridiculous_questions 0 points1 point ago

I always cut in the middle part. I cut a circle out of it so it's less dangerous. Then I cut it down the middle and at 90 degree angles on one side. Cutting little bits off is way easier than trying to go right across.

[–]kteliza 0 points1 point ago

can opener

[–]cmbyrd 0 points1 point ago

Step 1 - Acquire Kitten. Step 2 - SHAKE kitten. Step 3 - Lock kitten and package in a room. Step 4 - ???? Step 5 - Blue Tooth Receiver

[–]silvermoot 1 point2 points ago

if you /r/EDC you would just use your /r/knives , not because it's the best tool for the job, but because it's right there in your pocket already.

tl;dr My Spyderco knife.

[–]hippykiller8 1 point2 points ago

I use a 3 dollar pair of tin snips.

[–]supersoniiic 1 point2 points ago

Wire cutters.

[–]Mercury756 1 point2 points ago

Tin snips always seem to do the trick for me, but I also have a pair or really strong scissors too.

[–]kyrell -1 points0 points ago

can opener, or snip up the sides without trying to go across. once you get 2 sides clear, it'll rip open with ease

[–]processedmeat -1 points0 points ago

A can opener works well

[–]chrontonamojay -1 points0 points ago

can opener :)

[–]xmagusx -1 points0 points ago

Request they open it at the store for you. If they're going to sell it to you, they should at least make it functional for you.

[–]Tocci978 0 points1 point ago

Widget and sharp razor blade

[–]johnnysexcrime 0 points1 point ago

a sharp pocketknife can go through these like butter. so can a hobby knife.

[–]rocketman213 1 point2 points ago

can opener

[–]-pt- 0 points1 point ago

A scythe

[–]NickMcCool 0 points1 point ago

Hit it with a nokia
