RULES: as of May 20, 2012

  • 1st RULE: You do not talk about /r/howtonotgiveafuck. Running around telling everyone you don't give a fuck makes you an asshole, just be awesome and keep your lack of fucks to yourself. If you need to tell people you don't give a fuck you are trying too hard and are part of the problem. The exception is if you have a good example or a story of not giving a fuck that can inspire another honey badger.

  • 2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about /r/howtonotgiveafuck. This place only works if we maintain a high ratio of honey badgers to worthless fuckers. If we get too many worthless fuckers this place we will be overrun with mouth breathing assholes.

  • 3rd RULE: If someone comes here for help or advice then make a serious effort to help them. This is HOW to not give a fuck, the point is to help people learn to give less fucks. This place is for sharing stories and advice in the hopes of making more honey badgers in the world. If you want to kick someone when they are down then fuck you. For the stupid that means no telling people how few fucks you give about their problems - if you don't give a fuck then move on.

  • 4th RULE: If there is a violation or other stupid shit going on then report it to the mods. Don't feed the trolls. Users that make trouble or fuel the fire are part of the problem. Be the better honey badger.

  • 5th RULE: WE PROMOTE DISCUSSION AND THOUGHT PROVOKING CONTENT. All images and/or links submitted must offer some value in the way of self-improvement. Generic images and videos of people not giving a fuck will be deleted, music videos will be deleted.

  • 6th RULE: No novelty accounts, no karma whoring. We get it, you need attention - Fuck off! This is not the place to try and build your Reddit Karma. Up-votes will not fix your life. Reposts will be removed.

  • 7th RULE: Trying to learn how to not give a fuck will go on as long as it has to. Learning to not give a fuck is a process. Change is hard. Don't give up on yourself and we will not give up on you.

  • 8th RULE: If this is your first day at /r/howtonotgiveafuck you have to try a Project Mayhem task

  • ENFORCEMENT: The first line of defense is our community. The down-vote is a power every user has, if you see a post that is a SIGNIFICANT rules violation then down-vote. If something is getting out of control then use the report button. Mods may or may not give you a warning if you break the rules. Violations get you a 48 hour ban. Repeat violators will get a permanent ban.

i've always said, "quitting something because you suck at it is the only guaranteed way to continue sucking at it."

[–]zmansman17 23 points24 points ago

Yep. I started lifting and running as a 240 lb dude, looked like a complete idiot for a while. Now just broke 179 lbs today and feel great!

[–]Scaryfedoraman 7 points8 points ago

Congratulations, man!

[–]zmansman17 4 points5 points ago

thanks!

[–]FearTheCron 2 points3 points ago

As someone who is fit, I have to say this is not at all what I am thinking. When I see a 240 lb person running or lifting I am not thinking "What a complete idiot". I think "Congratulations dude, you are making a major life change!". I would say it out loud but pointing out how fat people are is rarely a nice thing to do. I have seen a couple people go from being morbidly obese to being fit and I will occasionally compliment them on this but it still feels awkward. Perhaps other people are different but screw them.

[–]Solraith 1 point2 points ago

That's awesome man, excellent work. How long you been at it, if you don't mind me asking?

[–]zmansman17 0 points1 point ago

About a year now.little by little ^_^

[–]hoganloaf 3 points4 points ago

If only I had enough knuckles to get this phrase tattooed across...

[–]semiotix 3 points4 points ago

i have it on my wang

[–]MessesofMike 0 points1 point ago

Isn't that the only spot where the quote doesn't make sense?

I'm getting "Keep sucking until something awesome happens." tattooed on my wang.

For the, uh, life advice.

[–]semiotix 0 points1 point ago

sure, but it's the only place it fit

[–]grutt 13 points14 points ago

So true. I saw a group of people practicing on a slack line (think tight rope) the other day and had to stop to look. One of them call led me over to gibe it a try. At first I was nervous because I have no balance. I walked over, took off my shoes and they helped me up. I was the most wobbly mother fucker on the planet but after a ,minute I could shift some of my weight off the spotters. I hopped off and the crew introduced themselves and told me how bad they all first were. They proceed to demonstrate technique and let me try a second time. I was more stable and confident this go. Seven steps forward were taken.

[–]hoganloaf 2 points3 points ago

Did that slack line happen to be crossing the San Marcos river by chance?

[–]grutt 1 point2 points ago

No it was on my school's campus. Doing it to cross a river sounds very fun... I'm no where near that skill level yet.

[–]jeremyl04 1 point2 points ago

Slacklining changed my life, keep at it.

[–]dermanus 0 points1 point ago

I just started slacklining. I'm really enjoying it. I like how short the learning curve is on it. If you focus you can be proficient at it fairly quickly (a few weeks).

I've tried it with a few kids I know (I'm a Cub Scout leader) and they've usually taken to it fairly well. I find the younger they are the more willing they are to fail. I think the public school system has something to do with training them to fear failure.

[–]CurtsMcGurts 11 points12 points ago

ya know, i really like this. It has a really stress-free attitude about it that makes me feel like I can start something and not have to strive to be the best, but can just enjoy it

[–]hoganloaf 5 points6 points ago

Same here. Its this attitude that helped me stick with playing guitar even though my roommate despised when I played. Now I'm kind of a little ok sometimes when I'm lucky... so that hater can suck it!

[–]nycprowl 7 points8 points ago

Oh man. I tried to surf last month. Not only did I suck, I also hated it so much. But now I have that off the list and can say "yeah I tried surfing... wasn't for me"

[–]Hudston 3 points4 points ago

As long as you hated surfing, and not sucking at surfing, that's the perfect reason to never do it again.

[–]nycprowl 0 points1 point ago

yeah. No nothing to do with sucking at it... I suck at a lot of things i do regularly.

[–]MirroredColors 1 point2 points ago

I don't know man, as long as a wave carries you the feeling is sensational.

[–]sastronautta 1 point2 points ago

I ate shit the first time I attempted to surf.... & the second. I worked at a surf shop & I was the only one who had no idea how to surf. But one day I sat past the break on my board & watched dolphins catch waves in front of me, showing me up. those assholes. but yeah, the experience was way cooler than being able to catch a wave in my eyes.

[–]dildosbaggins 1 point2 points ago

I was able to stand up on my first attempt and go a few metres. Yay, baby jesus loves me. The thing is I didn't find it fun so the reward for effort put in would never ever balance out for me.

I think I'm supposed to make some form of really lame reference to an armidillo now?

[–]imcereals 7 points8 points ago

That's what I keep telling my girlfriend.

[–]Cellis_ 5 points6 points ago

If you watch and learn from this show, it's basically full of htngaf tips everywhere all the time. Plus it's hilarious and has awesome animation.

[–]isworeiwouldntjoin 3 points4 points ago

This is fucking great.

[–]bfeliciano 3 points4 points ago

I've never seen this show and have only heard good things about it... because I really like this quote I think I'm going to start watching; because of this quote I'm going to start practicing bass more..

[–]christopherawesome 1 point2 points ago

AXE BASS!!!

[–]Solraith 1 point2 points ago

As a bassist of 12 years, I heartily approve of this. When I started, I was so timid, afraid of breaking a string or whatever. Now, I attack without fear, even play a chord once in a while. Done quite a few gigs over the years and now going stronger than ever before. Keep at it!

[–]bfeliciano 1 point2 points ago

Awesome! I've never learned an instrument before and being in a band is number 2 on my life goal checklist. Thanks for the encouragement! :D

[–]tree_hugger9 2 points3 points ago

Needed this today. Thanks!

[–]apu95 1 point2 points ago

In this boat. I started doing the Reebok Crossfit program last week. I was only able to do one day last week, this week my muscles got more used to it and I was able to do three days. I still suck at all the stuff we do and I take longer than anyone else, but fuck it. Be like the badger.

[–]FearTheCron 1 point2 points ago

That stuff will murder anyone who is trying it for the first time. Keep with it.

[–]christopherawesome 0 points1 point ago

This has been my iphone background ever since I saw that episode. Words to live by.

[–]LincolnMarch 0 points1 point ago

For the first 4 years of actual sea kayaking I could not Eskimo roll. I continued into ocean waters that in retrospect put my buddies in danger bc I could not self rescue. One season I finally had it and came off the big water and just practiced rolling. After a few sinus and ear infections and a lot of time spent swimming I finally nailed it and never stopped until my daughter was born. Haven't paddled in 2 years but confident I could hop right back in today and not bomb one. tl;dr: stopped being a pussy about drowning and learned how not to.

[–]brickwall5 0 points1 point ago

That's awesome

[–]all_the_potatoes 0 points1 point ago

I've had this hanging over my desk all year. Love it.
