This image did quite well the last two times it was posted. I'm not against reposts, but I am against repetitive comment wars. So here's 1 and 2.

Top comment 1:

This is dumb. Hunger isn't a zero-sum game. There has never in human history been a shortage of food production capacity. World hunger is a problem of logistics and economics. We can easily produce enough food for the world's population. The problem is making that food available in areas such as sub-Saharan Africa.

Top comment 2:

Which one is the warlord stealing and selling the food shipments?

[–]SojuSojuSoju 44 points45 points ago

The worst is when you see it reposted by some moron who editorializes it with "Really makes you think" or "Powerful stuff." Like they're actually going to change the way they live because they've seen this. Simply awful.

[–]GeneralAntonius 41 points42 points ago

I don't know man, it really did make me think about how I want a slice of pizza right now.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points ago

Reminded me that I haven't had pizza in a long time.

[–]jevmorgan 3 points4 points ago

My office is buying pizza for the staff today at lunch. Free pizza today!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Oh how I envy you...

[–]originalone 0 points1 point ago

Don't worry. It's probably crap pizza.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Pizza by Alfredo or Alfredo's Pizza Café?

[–]nicoleisrad 0 points1 point ago

I just made a veggie alfredo pizza. Maybe you can come over and we can use each other's mountainous guts as plates.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Only if we have a pizza sauce covered orgy afterwards.

[–]nicoleisrad 0 points1 point ago

Ewww. Gross, no. I only have alfredo sauce.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

Good enough. LETSGO

[–]KnightsWhoSayNii 2 points3 points ago

Also what else is on TV?

[–]crank1000 -1 points0 points ago

I'm going to mail some bread to Africa tomorrow. Does anybody have the address?

[–]BeenWildin 1 point2 points ago

37 Africa Street, Africa Town, Africa 012632

[–]PeterMus 2 points3 points ago

Thanks for bothering to post this.

[–]Winkelkater 1 point2 points ago

so true. also, capitalism.

[–]NewPass1 0 points1 point ago

I'm actually loving the weirdness this post has brought out. Seriously 1/3rd of the posts have been along the line, "This is racist white guilt, black people shouldn't blame white people for being better."

There's enough cognitive dissonance here to set off a small bomb. So I say good job OP.

[–]reneepussman 35 points36 points ago

This is such an ignorant way at looking at world hunger.

[–]nilhilustfrederi 8 points9 points ago

Smells like white guilt.

[–]Pythagoras_the_Great 163 points164 points ago

This is quite an actually uninformed view on hunger. The reason why white people tend to have more food than African people is because people who lived in more mild climates had the ability to grow and store large quantities of food way back when humans were just starting to settle down. At the same time, people who lived in Africa have a hard time of storing and growing nutritious food.

[–]Deracination 100 points101 points ago

Also, world hunger isn't really caused by a lack of food, it's caused by the inability to get the food to the starving. Rice and the like are cheaper than shit, but when you have to hand it to a warlord, it's probably not going to be making its way to the starving.

[–]Kuusou 48 points49 points ago

It really should be a fat warlord in the picture.

[–]b0w3n 21 points22 points ago

But how can we be snarky assholes if we can't show a big fat white guy and a skinny ass black guy in a yin-yang? This would destroy our whole idea and artistic expression... or something.

[–]Freddie_AppsHero 13 points14 points ago

But if we go over there and overthrow the warlord and try to fix the country, oh no, then we're all horrible imperialist crackers!

[–]Ekleting 7 points8 points ago

Horrible imperialists definitely, national sovereignty is a pretty important thing for most countries, and quite often the people in those countries. And America doesn´t seem to be doing so good against homegrown and cheaply armed terrorists / freedom fighters these days, so maybe try avoid getting mixed up in more of that!

[–]zolfe 7 points8 points ago

We also have a poor track record for installing good leaders and governments.

[–]Ekleting 0 points1 point ago

Indeed that is also true, but regardless of whether you "install" a good or a bad government that government won´t have been chosen by the people of that country so the way I see it there´s also always the risk of a portion of the populace refusing to acknowledge it´s legitimacy. In broken states that can be a really bad thing.

[–]NewPass1 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, but probably the best thing in the long run is to just help out when they need it and not finance anti-communist guerrillas. And it is definitely not going to help by propping up the war-lord because he's a western-friendly dictator.

[–]Deracination 0 points1 point ago

Well, in our critics' defense, we do tend to put even worse dictators in charge.

[–]CountDunkula 0 points1 point ago

Exactly. Not to mention other more sweeping global complexes. There are many countries that have the ability to produce enough food to feed their country. The catch is that all this food is being exported to make the top class money. It's not just "rich people eat more so there's no food available for the poor".

[–]avocadro 0 points1 point ago

I've heard figures that suggest that everyone could consume about 2500 calories a day, at current population levels. And yet, year after year, grains rot in silos, etc.

[–]Chudley 18 points19 points ago

We also have superior farming... whereas when we donate food certain african countries won't accept it if it's even genetically modified - which could mean as little as crop rotation.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/2459903.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/2412603.stm

http://www.worldpress.org/Africa/737.cfm http://www.irinnews.org/Report/93991/FOOD-Rumpus-over-GM-food-aid

so even when we try to give them food, they stupidly reject it citing concerns over safety, but ultimately dooming their population who depend on the foreign aid to survive

[–]Dekar173 4 points5 points ago

Some people would rather starve than eat genetically modified foods.

Others have actually gone hungry before in their lives.

[–]SitnaltaPhix 3 points4 points ago

Yeah. Fertile Crescent farmers had cereal grains, goats, pigs, oxen and a happy climate. Not only that, but the oxen could plow the field for them. Greatly increasing the amount of land that could be sown.

Precolonial America was held back by lack of beasts of burden, but they still had corn and potatoes.

Sub-Saharan Africa had yams, and whatever you could catch. Oh, and Malaria. Lots of Malaria.

[–]Angeldust01 1 point2 points ago

The reason why white people tend to have more food than African people is because people who lived in more mild climates had the ability to grow and store large quantities of food way back when humans were just starting to settle down.

I'm a Finnish guy who's eating a banana while I'm writing this. I'm fortunate to live near the great Finnish banana forests in the mild climate of arctic circle.

Yesterday I ate brazilian beef and danish potatoes. Later on, I snacked on some pistachios, transported from some mediterranean country. It was a hard choice between them and wasabi flavored nuts from japan.

[–]Symbolis 5 points6 points ago

None of which came from Africa. Particularly, the parts of Africa that are not very good at growing food.

[–]Angeldust01 0 points1 point ago

My point was that if you're african, you won't get imported food around the world. You have to make do with what you can grow. I live in norther Finland, and I can guarantee you that this place if far from ideal farming grounds.

[–]medlish 2 points3 points ago

Stop it. You're destroying their precious white shame circle jerk.

[–]piezo32 2 points3 points ago

Not sure if you are saying the same thing, but I do believe Yin and Yang (Yin-Yang) is inappropriate here due to it implying that the hunger in Africa is related to obesity in western culture.

[–]Valthenia 4 points5 points ago

This is quite an actually uninformed view on hunger. The reason why white people tend to have more food than African people is because people who lived in more mild climates had the ability to grow and store large quantities of food way back when humans were just starting to settle down. At the same time, people who lived in Africa have a hard time of storing and growing nutritious food.

The reason why White people have more food is because our people used our intellect and ingenuity to advance agriculture and plan properly.

Do not use the land as an excuse like that hack Jared Diamond. Africa is a vast and fertile continent. Africa, including sub-saharan Africa, has a lot of fertile land, an incredible amount of biodiversity available for domestication, and has had access to imported domesticated plants and animals for thousands of years.

During the Colonial Era there were quite a lot of White farmers throughout Africa, and they were very productive. Since the dissolution of colonies, these White farmers have either been murdered, deported, or fled. This anti-White racism by Blacks in Africa has inadvertently left a void in food production. The productiveness of those White-African farmers, and the following decades of food-aid has caused an unsustainable Black population compared to their domestic food production.

It is also worth noting that the people in South America, India and Southeast Asia had successful agriculture in similar moist and arid tropical conditions as sub-saharan Africa. They also preserved their food through drying, fermenting and/or spicing.

[–]tonsofbullshit 10 points11 points ago

Are you saying that Africans aren't smart enough to be proper farmers?

[–]JeffVanGundy 2 points3 points ago

More like the people at the top of the African political totem pole are a bunch of fucking sociopaths who ruin everything for everyone. If white people are the only competent large-scale farmers in your country, then stealing their land, driving them out, killing their former black employees (you know, the other group of people who might conceivably be able to keep the farms running) and chopping up the land into small plots to give to "war veterans" (cronies) is pretty much guaranteed to end in disaster.

[–]Mgeegs 5 points6 points ago

I just read your comment history. What the fuck, dude. Chill out

[–]ArseAssassin 6 points7 points ago

White supremacist.

[–]wowatsunami 0 points1 point ago

whats really scary is most of what he said got upvoted.

[–]Veltan 3 points4 points ago

If you find that surprising on Reddit, you've been browsing with your eyes closed.

[–]Jigsus -3 points-2 points ago

It's a vicious cycle. You can't sit around and think of new solutions to your problems if you're starving and running for your life. You need abundance of food to think of better solutions.

[–]Slime0 -3 points-2 points ago

To be fair, I think you may be assuming the image says more than it's actually trying to say.

[–]alwaysnude 43 points44 points ago

Oh, I get it... White people are fat oppressors.

What else have you learned in your first week of Introduction to Sociology?

[–]Freddie_AppsHero 28 points29 points ago

"How can we blame this on white people?"

[–]Semaphor 1 point2 points ago

I find it curious to see that people miss the other meaning of this drawing. It's supposed to be a statement on hunger, but I see that both the white and the black are malnourished.

[–]Cocomaan 0 points1 point ago

zerohedge ftw, btfd you assholes!

[–]CustomizeMyFrontPage 62 points63 points ago

Because only white people are fat, and only black people are starving.

[–]njckname2 8 points9 points ago

This is what idiots actually believe.

[–]Patienceisavirtue1 27 points28 points ago

ITT: Race cards, race cards everywhere.

[–]TitanKing 14 points15 points ago

Mmm... this picture is actually quite racist.

[–]AnalBurns[!] 11 points12 points ago

If this is supposed to strike white guilt, I think this it's completely off. More food for Western civilizations does not mean less food for Africa.

[–]eldog 78 points79 points ago

This is racist.

[–]Hipster_Umlaut 17 points18 points ago

White guilt... true white man's burden.

[–]1onflux 1 point2 points ago

Yeah dude, we should seriously consider tattooing "sorry" on our foreheads.

[–]hitmenow 15 points16 points ago

Only black people are hungy.

[–]mokr22 1 point2 points ago

Black people skin colour is really black and.

[–]Panentheist 3 points4 points ago

What a stupid picture - as if the white people are the cause of black people starving, and as if white people don't go hungry.

[–]toolzb 9 points10 points ago

[–]floodle 9 points10 points ago

Mmmmmmm pizza....

[–]Sabird1 6 points7 points ago

The black guy should make some more room for the white guys legs. His legs looked pretty cramped in there.

[–]thomsos 0 points1 point ago

Anyone else see Heavy weapons guy?

[–]RiverwoodHood 1 point2 points ago

felt weird upvoting....

[–]NoSalt 0 points1 point ago

Yes, because there are no fat black people in the world.

:-/

[–]Lebagel 0 points1 point ago

pretty racist, op

[–]AKSasquatch 1 point2 points ago

nice i have seen this before, the representation of race amuses me here. I understand it's world hunger but if you were in my neighborhood those two would be reversed.

[–]xemprah 0 points1 point ago

Something something WHITE PRIVILEGE! Right guys!?!?!

[–]deadlast 1 point2 points ago

Stupid graphic. Obesity and starvation are both characteristic of poverty.

[–]TuctDape 1 point2 points ago

Please read a book on the subject to see why you're wrong.

[–]zerorules 18 points19 points ago

Curse the white people for developing their societies over time and not being content with the same crap generation after generation...

[–]rasputine 7 points8 points ago

...just so we're clear, you're aware that most of the problems in Africa were caused by other nations fucking Africa up, right? You understand that Europe, India and the Middle East have spent millennia raping African kingdoms and subjugating African peoples, yeah?

[–]poptart2nd 33 points34 points ago

do YOU realize that sub-saharan africa is a collection of thousands of different ethnic tribes and even without European intervention, they'd still be a backward, violent clusterfuck?

[–]AnApatheticMinority 11 points12 points ago

A decent portion of relief efforts are taken and hoarded by hostile militia in certain countries where its needed most. A couple militias figure heads were put in place by various western nations for their own personal agendas.. its almost like they (Africa) cant win. But there are parts of the nation that happens to be very developed however. And starvation by no means is only something that happens solely in Africa. There are kids starving in your local major city too Id be willing to bet

[–]alskdjf2 2 points3 points ago

If anyone is starving in any local major industrialized city then it's due to factors like being mentally unable to take care of themselves. Seriously, you dont even realize how big the difference is between the developed and developing world it seems. There is a huge difference between being hungry (a sad reality for some) and starving. Food stamps, welfare,... all these things are in place in developed nations to prevent people from actually starving. And please dont counter my point with some newspaper article about one kid who died 5 years ago due to starvation, exceptions exist anywhere but statistically, practically nobody starves in industrialized nations.

[–]AnApatheticMinority 1 point2 points ago

Im not trying to counter your point, im simply saying that starvation isn't just an African problem and that not all of Africa is underdeveloped. Poverty and the tribulations that accompany it are everywhere

[–]Cawrin 5 points6 points ago

I made this argument to my sociology teacher this morning.

I don't think I'm welcome in that class anymore.

[–]alwaysnude -1 points0 points ago

That's like a member of Obama's cabinet standing up in the middle of a meeting and saying, "this Obama guy is fucked in the head, am I right?".

Your point is valid, but you're fucking yourself in the ass by saying it out loud.

[–]columbine 3 points4 points ago

Correct. Everything bad is America's fault.

[–]vagitron 6 points7 points ago

In Africa? More like Britain, France, Portugal, Italy, Germany, and Belgium.

[–]bvanman 5 points6 points ago

I don't think the Dutch should be excluded.

[–]TheProphetMuhammad 1 point2 points ago

What about Spain? They still have two cities there! Those bastards!

[–]fluidambient 0 points1 point ago

What did India do?

[–]Beefmittens 0 points1 point ago

Well aren't you about as thick as pig shit. You really don't know anything about the plethora of socio-economic factors surrounding Africa's poverty? Colonialism? Slavery? Genocide? Ethnic Cleansing? None of that ring a bell?

[–]Freddie_AppsHero 3 points4 points ago

Oh what, 500 years of colonialism and slavery? Not to mention the fact that African slavery was supported by many Africans.

[–]alskdjf2 0 points1 point ago

Is this another stormfront thread here?

Regarding your "argument", perhaps you should consider the state of the US 500 years ago and how much has changed since then. (Little hint for the historically challenged, 1492 Columbus just set sail and "found" America.

[–]Freddie_AppsHero 5 points6 points ago

My point was, Europe has been doing this genocide-slavery-warfare-conquest things for over 2,500. Why should we treat Africa with kid gloves?

[–]Beefmittens -1 points0 points ago

If that's your opinion on the matter then you don't know about its history. Look up the history of Uganda, or Rwanda. There is not really any place on earth which has dealt with the similar things, save for maybe aboriginal australians and native Americans, and look how well they're doing!

[–]Freddie_AppsHero 4 points5 points ago

Europe has had plenty of genocides, what are you talking about?

And furthermore, Rwanda's genocide was committed by Africans. So why should it be our problem?

[–]Beefmittens 1 point2 points ago

Oh for fucks sake. Guess who decided to divide Rwanda's people into two castes arbitrarily and create a hierarchy based on superficial features resulting in years of tension which ultimately resulted in a genocide? Belgium! Almost every modern conflict in Africa has roots in European Imperialism. Please do some research before you talk about 'Africa's situation being their fault'. There's a reason why literally no one intelligent in the entire world believes that.

[–]Freddie_AppsHero 4 points5 points ago

Guess who decided to divide Rwanda's people into two castes arbitrarily and create a hierarchy based on superficial features resulting in years of tension which ultimately resulted in a genocide? Belgium!

That's a Rwandan nationalist viewpoint; virtually every credible source acknowledges that the Hutu and the Tutsis are simply two different ethnicities.

Almost every modern conflict in Africa has roots in European Imperialism.

Wrong. Some of the biggest clashes are between Muslims and non-Muslims, or Arabs and blacks.

Please do some research before you talk about 'Africa's situation being their fault'.

I'm not going to lie to avoid hurting people's feelings. Africa has been in the shit every since the colonies were disbanded.

[–]Beefmittens -1 points0 points ago

two different ethnicities

That's very contentious, but it doesn't change the fact that they managed to live peacefully for thousands of years before the Belgians arrived and decided that the Hutus were inherently better and gave them a hier social ranking.

between Muslims and non-Muslims, or Arabs and blacks

Most of these take place between militias which only rose to power after Europeans eradicated much of Africa's provincial system of government. They had many advanced societies with legal systems and what not before Europe invaded and crumbled them. I'm not saying that the Arab vs. Sub saharan African conflict is a new thing, but it is certainly facilitated by the fact that there are no longer governments capable of enforcing peace and there are roving bands of militias roaming the country unchecked.

every since the colonies were disbanded.

That is exactly my point. There are no colonies (barring the ones settled by Europeans) which have recuperated from their Colonization. From south America, to India to Indonesia, you cannot deny that the scars of colonization are still very visible and that any country which is truly colonized will have their development as a nation hampered for centuries.

[–]TheProphetMuhammad -2 points-1 points ago

The same reason Black Hawk Down happened, paternalism.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]Beefmittens 0 points1 point ago

he's definitely not, he's trying to argue his point with me really badly now.

[–]TheRagingCanadian 4 points5 points ago

I don't see how the affluence of the 1st world lifestyle has anything to do with how well people in Africa can grow food. They would be a lot worse off it it wasn't for rich people and governments helping to support them.

[–]alskdjf2 2 points3 points ago

Good question. One example is that many developed countries heavily subsidize their agriculture, thus artificially lowering the prices of foods. As developing nations cannot really hope to compete internationally in industry or research, farming and labour remains.

[–]clemsonpk 1 point2 points ago

This is so fucking stupid, it makes me ashamed to breathe air from the same atmosphere with the person that created it.

Talk about white guilt and having zero understanding of world economics or politics.

[–]ricki142 0 points1 point ago

Oh, I get it... White people are fat oppressors.

[–]IllegalToast 1 point2 points ago

Food shortages?

Lets have more kids.

[–]SaneDunk -2 points-1 points ago

Because only black poor people have lots of kids, right?

[–]fregu149 2 points3 points ago

Reddit - The place to find White guilt propaganda. It's like Reddit is created and run by Jews.

[–]columbine 1 point2 points ago

Wow, this one is really deep. Let me guess, Banksy?

[–]Afroemo 0 points1 point ago

if i still lived in my old town i would not give a fuck if food is genetically modified or not , because that food in parachute don't come everyday .

[–]scykle 0 points1 point ago

OP obviously hasn't been to New Zealand.

[–]vinod1978 1 point2 points ago

That's a beautiful portrait of Chris Christie.

[–]JacksonBollock 0 points1 point ago

I'm just happy about the correct spelling. A rare treat when it comes to Yin Yang.

[–]delegable94 1 point2 points ago

This is such an ignorant way at looking at world hunger.

[–]Verteros 1 point2 points ago

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Yin and Yang is the representation of good in evil and evil in good. So why is the representation showing the starving black kid as evil and the incredibly obese white guy as good?

[–]Botfly89 1 point2 points ago

Wrong black with white eye is good. White with black eye is evil.

[–]thebusishalfempty 0 points1 point ago

I don't know if you guys noticed but this isn't quite balanced.

[–]SaltFrog 0 points1 point ago

Totally just stopped eating my breakfast burrito...

[–]almightyzentaco 0 points1 point ago

He should just get it over with and eat the kid.

[–]TNpewp615 -1 points0 points ago

there ARE fat black people in the world too ya know? just got to memphis TN lololol

[–]cocobango 0 points1 point ago

more information from an article seen recently. Soon, 50% of US kids will be obese, 50% will be underfed.

There are people well fed in Africa. Over a billion people, there are most certainly not only starving people. This makes no sense.

[–]enragethehive 1 point2 points ago

I swear to God if I see this God-damned fucking picture one more fucking time I'm going to fucking lose it. What the fuck is wrong with people? Fuck.

[–]ara_p 0 points1 point ago

Looks like the Kingpin

[–]jacktripper3C 0 points1 point ago

I really feel that this describes human suffering at its' worst. I implore you to find a better image that more strongly portrays this theatrical shot to the proverbial heart. Your welcome for me educating all your young minds in a forum such as this one, no matter how trashy you all are

[–]SaneDunk 0 points1 point ago

I love how in this thread everyone is suddenly an expert on world hunger and the history and relations of Africa, Europe and the Americas.

Jesus, some of you have your chin so high up it probably cracks your neck.

[–]originalone 0 points1 point ago

I think this is merely making a statement that white people are generally more likely than Africans to be overweight and Africans are more likely to be underweight. If you want to look more into it, you could maybe say that western governments are more powerful. If you want to really stretch, you could say that Western governments subsidize food production more than African governments.

Also, in America, African-Americans have a higher percentage of obesity per person than white people. So it's a difference in nationality rather than race or ethnicity.

[–]ElricG 0 points1 point ago

Erect?... I'll leave now.

[–]Zechey 1 point2 points ago

Why does the starving guy have a bandage? Are you implying all people that are starving are hurt? You cripple hating bastard.

[–]Ellenoric 0 points1 point ago
