I have never been on a road that has a speed limit of 120km before, closest is 110km. Fast as hell for me.

It's 1.6. To convert mph to kph. Add half again then another 10%.

60+30+6 = 96 (actual number is 96.5606).

As far as the other part, that's sad. I just made a 2 hour drive mostly above 210 kph on the autobahn. EVen in the states where the limits are usually 110->120kph I'll usually drive 140-160 kph. But that requires an eagle eye and a radar detector.

When me and my family when on a long trip a few years ago we were tired of toll booths so we went through the EZPass and never got caught or charged for it. Everything went better than expected.

Actually, usually those lines are faster in most of PA, NJ, and NY. Furthermore, it's quite common for people to get tickets in the mail for going too fast between gates. It's not worth it for a lot of people and I'd personally never get it mainly because I'd rather pay right away and not have an extra expense at the end of the month.

I've accidentally gone through a couple EZPasses in NYC, assholes who don't let you merge into their lane so you have no choice, but never got a ticket or fine or anything. I assumed I would, but didn't... do you have to go through a certain amount before they start mailing you tickets?

When you don't have an EZPass and pull up to that lane it will just say some error about you not having an EZPass but the gate opens up anyway.

Protip: EZpass and IPass (Illinois) are interchangeable in most states. I was so grateful that our IPass worked in WV, there's always that "will it work" feeling. Also, Open Road Tolling is sweet.

They are mandatory in some HOV lanes. My buddies and I found that out when we reached the toll booth at the end of the HOV lane, and we didn't have an ezpass. There were several cops there handing out tickets. The cop we talked to said he would have given us a ticket, but he was all out of them. It was only 8am.

Electronic toll tags have been in use on the toll roads in Sydney and Melbourne since the 90's, and almost all toll roads have been tag only (no cash payment) for a few years now.

There have been times that people have been ticketed for going between two easy pass locations faster than would be legally possible. That doesn't happen with cash.

I have to think this is not true. There's no way people are getting tickets for timings between EZpass points. I don't think there's any evidence that this has ever happened.

Not everyone lives near a toll road. Closest one to me is 40 miles away. I only use it a couple times a year. An EZPass would seems like overkill for me. Plus what else am I going to use all the change that collects in my car for?

OK, maybe not mandatory, but why not get a pass that you rarely use and leave it in the car? Just establish a link to checking account or debit card and they pull when they need it in small increments. It saves so much time. I live in NY and I pass through tolls infrequently, but I have passes in all my cars and even gave one to my father in law, who would never think to get one on his own.
