    Calibrate your speakers!

    Some systems will auto-calibrate for you. Some low to mid-range systems from Onkyo, Sony, and Dennon come with a little mic. You run a test sequence on the amplifier and place the mic at various points around your room and it will automatically adjust the speaker levels.A lot of times it will come with a threaded hole so you can use a camera mount and a tripod to make sure the height it correct. After I did that, I rarely have a movie where the quiet scenes are muddled and the loud scenes blast my ear-drums.

    If your amp doesn't have this function, there are a ton of web sites that will help you understand how to do it on your own. I don't know about Android, but there is an iPhone app to take audio level readings when doing calibration called Audio Tool.

        This was 4 to 5 hours work. It was definitely one of my biggest gif projects yet. A lot of that time was spent masking out the characters movements and animating the reddit alien shelves. Other things like the text and the reddit keyboard key were relatively fast.

        Well, the program I use, Jasc Animation Shop, has an "Optimization Wizard" that basically lets you choose from different levels of quality, from 255 colors down to grayscale. I went with 123 color RGB for this gif, and the wizard automatically applies things like dithering.

        I've used photoshop's optimization with colors and dithering, just seems you got great compression for the dimensions and file size.

        Someone referenced this to me, I tried the imagemagick convert commands the and the gifsicle color correction and it seemed to have done a better job than I could with photoshop. It's a bit easier too since I output my series of images to a folder, than run a batch file to run both the imagemagick and gifsicle commands to get my final gif.

        Well, now that I think of it, I also have a command selected by default in Animation shop that recycles the parts of a frame that don't change, kind of like an mpeg compression. That might be helping.
