The front of the wave is at the top of the pic. So the part between the white crest and the bottom of the pic is the surface of the sea.

In this picture you're looking almost straight down, so the whitewater is the wave breaking. Were this a video, it would continue towards the top of the screen, moving away from you.

That wave looks like it's from the 100 year storm. My friend Brody died in a wave like that. He had some bank trouble and this crazy disgruntled FBI agent forced him to surf for this life. Tragic stuff.

This pic makes me really happy. Because it almost lends credence to the idea that dolphins are just out there, riding and jumping through waves, hoping for a camera to take a picture just so they can show the rest of the world their surfing skills. I can just see the leader of the pod, squeeing up to some reporter, being all, "Dem bitches in Cali ain't got shit on us. Try being the surfboard for once you crazy hippies". Then just goes squeeing back off, telling the dunce of the pod to get his 'Flippery' ass in line.

I surf and there has been a few times I'm about to take off on a wave and I look down the line to see a dolphin coming right at me. Scares me half to death they are big and fast but they seem to know what they are doing i haven't been hit yet :)
