I actually did this. I was 5 and didn't want to go to the YMCA after kindergarten. So, naturally, I lied and told my teacher that my mom was picking me up that day. She never showed up, of course, and the phone number the office had for her wasn't the right one so no one could reach her. I went home with my teacher and played with her son's old toys, including a little car thing not too different from the one in the picture.

All was swell until I let slip, "This is more fun than going to the Y like I was supposed too!" Boy, was everyone mad at me.
