There was one particular scent (maybe pink Melon?) that I found particularly gross as a kid, but for some reason I JUST COULD NOT STOP SNIFFING IT for a good portion of my childhood. I now blame all my questionable life decisions on the Melon-scented Mr. Sketch marker.

I've bitched about this on reddit before, but I'll be damned if I ever miss an opportunity to bring this up: When I was a kid, I was once terrorized by my school for being "caught" smelling these things in class. Not huffing - I was 11 years old and had no idea that sniffing markers to get high was even a thing.

I was called into the principals office, shamed for hours while they called my parents, and sent me home. For sniffing these fucking scented markers. Apparently you're supposed to write on the paper and than smell the paper, not sniff the markers themselves. I'm still 100% certain that that's fucking horseshit, and that literally no person ever has thought that that was what you're supposed to do with these things.

True story: in 1st grade me and my friends all challenged each other to lick each flavor. We did and it was actually quite delicious. This poor kid Ryan we suckered into doing it as well. In line to go to the cafeteria my teacher sees our colored tongues and flips. But only at poor kid Ryan. She flips and asks him if he is in kindergarten and to grow up already, all the while Ryan stared at us helpless.

To this day I am sorry Ryan. But those markers were delicious.

I went to a USAF tech school in Denver during the '80s to be a Graphic Specialist. They had a shit-ton of these same markers.
Thought it was strange that a government military (with guns and teargas) would use these preschool markers.

My cousin had a pack of these when I was very young. I didn't know they were special so for a while after experiencing them I'd sniff any marker I came across to see if it was scented. ONE TIME out of seemingly thousands of tests did I actually encounter a legitimately scented marker.

I think they were designed to only exude fragrance (or odor, if you'd prefer) and not to color with. The color would make paper limp and it didn't blend at all.

I love licorice. Don't like cherry flavored things at all; remind me of cough syrup.

I may or may not be speaking from experience but coloring the inside of your nose (even just a bit) so you can smell it all day is NOT a good idea.

I met one of my best friends in 8th grade because of these.

On the first day of school, he found a marker of this brand, but unscented lying on the floor. Not noticing the word "unscented" on the marker, he pulled the cap off and proceeded to sniff it.

The sniffing did not yield a green apple smell as he expected, and he figured that the best way to rectify this problem was to shake it - once again ignoring the large "DO NOT SHAKE" letters on the body of the marker.

This resulted in an explosion of green ink EVERYWHERE. He was green, his desk was green - the wall was green; and it all stayed that way (though fading) throughout the end of the year.

Needless to say, I found it appropriate to call him Green Marker Boy until I learned his actual name a few days later. I still tease him about it to this day.
