My update notifier went off during the middle of a car ride, we were all psyched to check the update when we got home, and it turns out the curtains just hadn't been seen by my notifier yet. :(

The notifier is a program you can download, and whenever an update occurs, a picture of your choosing pops up with the words update and an attention sound also of your choosing. I love it. If you want it, I could direct you to a download, or just send you a zip file of mine.

I hate to be the one to say it, but do we really want to make a joke of this? It's a true story, someone died. I just don't find it very funny to make a joke out of the death of someone's family member, especially when this person, who obviously felt very guilty about it, put herself out there to send a serious message. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't feel right.

I agree. On a scale comparison, the joke just wasn't really worth how potentially offensive this was/could be. A fine joke, but a little too harsh for my liking.

Thing is, they're not making a joke about the death itself. It's a joke about Homestuck and its fans told through the context of this horrible incident. It's not out to trivialize the death or make fun of the people involved. Yes, she feels guilty. But what part of this joke would make her feel more guilty? What part of this joke insults her in some way? What part makes the death any less tragic?

What? The entire joke hinges on the fact that someone died. If it was just a white panel with the word update it wouldn't be 'funny'. You're laughing because someone died receiving a text about the update.
