I would also like to point out our stats for the past few days. Our run time has increased by a year each day, so we are still growing at a ridiculous rate.

Date Run Time Points Results

I think the numbers should flatten in the next few days as our recruitment tapers off, but we've got a shot at donating a century of time by the end of the contest. Very cool.

[–]Qesun 8 points9 points ago

Well, I guess that's incentive to continue leaving my computer on when I'm out of the house for school/work. I was considering overclocking it before this contest, but now that I won't be here to monitor it I'd rather have it run safely then run faster.

[–]I_EAT_PONIES 2 points3 points ago

Is there a portable version of that for us redditors who don't have admin access to our computers?

[–]Nissl[S] 0 points1 point ago

I saw someone in a thread a few days back say that you can set up an Android version with a little finagling. He didn't give many details, though.

[–]Kewes1 1 point2 points ago

Your comment reminds me of In Time.

[–]Siouxsie871 8 points9 points ago

I made a chart of it

[–]WorldsSmallestGiant 4 points5 points ago

I love charts

[–]Time_Loop 2 points3 points ago

/r/mylittlepony is creating more than 1/200th of the daily run time for all the World Community Grid teams combined.

[–]Nubthesamurai 11 points12 points ago

I've been doing my part. Keep it up guys.

I have only one laptop and I put it in the loop. I use it for internet and old roms. It uses 330 watts daily on average. Unfortunately, the electricity comes from lignite and on average it produces 0.940 kg-CO2/kWh.

I call my computer Little Nellie. Oh, she's a wonderful girl. Very small, quite fast, can do anything. Just my type. A Toshiba Satellite T110-10X.

Were going to keep this up! Lets do it! #Motivationalspeaking

[–]Mistywing 2 points3 points ago

My processor is being used by I'm receiving no tasks for my GPU even though it's set to be used. Anyone else?

[–]TheWumple 2 points3 points ago

Do you have the option checked in the manager (the program, not on the site) to modify settings for this machine only? If so, that overrides anything you set on the site. Also, changes you make to settings on the site won't take effect immediately; I think the client only contacts the server once or twice a day.

[–]Mistywing 0 points1 point ago

Well I didn't use the website to set up options for the program, I used Advanced>Preferences in the Advanced view of the BOINC manager itself. The GPU box is ticked obviously.

EDIT: Also checked on the website and it's set correctly. I set it up that way when I started too (More than 24h ago). My GPU is NVIDIA GTX 670 as well, so it should be compatible according to information I've read.

[–]TheWumple 0 points1 point ago

Dunno, then.

[–]javelinnl 1 point2 points ago

That whole GPU thing is still experimental apparently, so it's not being used yet.

[–]SeriousGoose 0 points1 point ago

Indeed. It depends on the project if it can use the GPU or not and right now none of them are capable.

[–]kaitou42 3 points4 points ago

Now if I can get Octavia (My MacbookPro) working properly, I'll have it running on five machines...

[–]RainbowPlatypus 4 points5 points ago

The only thing I noticed is that we have 1.5 YEARS worth of run-time PER DAY. That's a user base money can't buy.

[–]RainbowDashIsEpic 1 point2 points ago

We have to try harder by going to 10 YEARS per day just to say WE WILL DO ANYTHING FOR PONIES AND SCIENCE!

[–]sprankton 0 points1 point ago

Don't let it keep you from trying, though.

[–]doublesunk 2 points3 points ago

the power of the brony nation

[–]Killora 2 points3 points ago

Wish i could help, but i have a 20gb bandwidth cap on my shitty wireless internet. Downloading projects would not only take long but cap my internet. :/

[–]Mistywing 3 points4 points ago

Have you checked this out? You can opt out of certain compute tasks if the downloads/uploads are too large for your internet service, and still contribute some.

[–]TheJayP 0 points1 point ago

How do you check your bandwidth? My mom does all that crap (yeah, I'm only 16) so IDK what goes into our plans. Is there some kind of program/site?

[–]Killora 0 points1 point ago

Well, i use Verizon Wireless ( as theres nothing else around here, i live in the middle of nowhere ) and their site keeps track, i don't know about other ISP's. There is hardware you can buy to keep track of this sort of thing, though.

[–]StringLiteral 2 points3 points ago

I think it is more accurate to say that you are donating electric power rather than time. According to my rough estimate, it costs about $1.50 to keep a desktop computer running at full capacity for one day. A decade of computing time would therefore be about $5,500 worth of electricity.

[–]PurpleSfinx 1 point2 points ago

What about a laptop with the screen off?

[–]StringLiteral 0 points1 point ago

My estimate didn't include the screen.

A laptop will usually draw less power than a desktop, but roughly speaking that is because it is doing less, not because it is being more efficient. For example, it is likely to have a very basic GPU that neither takes a lot of power nor does a lot of calculations and a CPU clocked down to, again, take less power but do less calculations. So you're probably spending less with a laptop but you're also giving them less.

[–]Kai_973 2 points3 points ago

Once again I'm astounded at just how hyperactive this fanbase is for its size. Thousands of artwork pieces, hundreds of songs, dozens of cons, and here nearly triple the contribution put forth by the TLA subreddit... It's as if the whole community is eager to prove that it's serious.

[–]sprankton 1 point2 points ago

Ponies are totally serious. No funny business here.

[–]Kai_973 1 point2 points ago

I meant serious about liking FiM, because it's actually fairly common for people to dismiss us as merely "trolling" or "liking it ironically."

[–]Mewbro123 2 points3 points ago

I'm helping.

[–]itsthesheppy 2 points3 points ago

I say, screw the contest, let's see if reddit bronies can be the best in the world.

[–]Torpluss 3 points4 points ago

After the competition we should see if EQD could give the world community grid a little publicity.

[–]itsthesheppy 1 point2 points ago

Definitely. I know if bronies worldwide unite, we could wield some fearsome power.

[–]FunnyBunny01 0 points1 point ago

What is the TheLastAirbender at?

[–]Dr_Dippy 1 point2 points ago

YEAH!!!

[–]Navolas2 0 points1 point ago

Looked at the numbers last night and was all:

then I realized my guess of how long it would take to reach a decade was destroyed.

but anyway.... Winning!

[–]Jisamaniac 1 point2 points ago

I haven't touched my computer for 4 days straight. aka 24/7 quadcore computer time along with Nvidia 470 at max GPU computing :D

[–]DarthSatoris 1 point2 points ago

I have a Core i7 (which has four physical and four vertical cores) machine as well as a dual core laptop running, so I'm running 10, let me repeat that, TEN processes at any given point in time.

Also, I have my GPU activated so in case they send me GPU-compatible data, I'll have 11 processes running.

That's (in theory) 10 hours every hour.

[–]Jisamaniac 0 points1 point ago

oh did i mention a xeon cpu running 16 cores? :D lol
