Well, Scruffy and his sister Mittens Mittenswere found in a trash can outside of a Petsmart in Las Vegas. My wife and I were on vacation and stopped in to grab some food for the dog we had with us and right at the entrance was a young girl with a little box that had three kittens that were just starting to open their eyes...maybe 2 weeks old? idk.

Anyway I was looking at the kittens with my wife, and the grey one crawled to me and in my hands, and the black on crawled to my wife. We took it as a sign and we checked with the vet tech at Petsmart and they helped us put together bottles and formula and all the stuff we would need to try and get the kittens to live. They were not sure how much damage was done to the kittens by being thrown in a trash bag and into a dumpster in the heat of the day. One of the kittens(the 4th) didn't make it.

So we snuck 2 kittens into our casino, up the elevator and into our room. We had no room service and no cleaning as we didn't want anyone to see the kittens and kick us out. It was amazing.

The little guys fought to live and they got better. We bottle fed them 6 times a day at first, and let them lay on our chest. We groomed them and did everything and they turned into amazing cats that thought they were humans. Scruffy would come to you when you called, he would jump up into my arms on command. He slept in my bed on my side(with Mittens sleeping on my wifes side of the bed) and always had to have his forehead touching my nose. I would wake up and he would be curled up against my face with our noses touching.

So we had both of them since March of 2001. Last year Scruffy stopped eating all of a sudden. He had no bowel movements. I took him to the vet and they found cancer everywhere. His brain, his stomach. Other than the sudden change in eating, he was doing fine. He had a checkup a year and a half earlier and was great. We never figured everything out, but to me it didn't really matter. Scruffy had been on my lap or laying in my shoulder for ten years, and he was amazing. Imgur

When he died, I cried like a little girl, it was embarrassing. I have had a lot of pets over the years, but never anyone that came so close to being a little "buddy" like Scruff did. I ended up having him cremated. I know that is gross and wrong to a lot of people, but it seemed right.

His ashes are in a nice container next to my bed. Right by where he slept for ten years.
