Reporting in from Galliano, the rain doesn't bother me. I just hope the levees hold up here. Some models show the storm stalling as it approaches the coast and just pounding us. At least we will have plenty of lube....

[–]_supernovasky_ 6 points7 points ago

Hahahaha, people post on reddit in Galliano? I'm from Cut Off.

[–]kajunkennyg 4 points5 points ago

I'm from Lockport but have a house here and one in Austin. You have no idea how often I see meme's on facebook and I message the person and tell them that some of us read reddit. And they ask me what is reddit? I usually reply with some like; "Y U NO GOOGLE?".

[–]shamecamel 3 points4 points ago

because, if it keeps on raining, the levee's gonna break. And if the levee breaks, you've got no place to go.

[–]dabockster 2 points3 points ago

"I saw a fish!"

[–]jrussell424 0 points1 point ago

This is my favorite quote from family guy followed closely by "can somebody put the dog out, he's cryin?"

[–]docfelt 46 points47 points ago

Greetings from Hammond.

Shit's about to get real.

[–]choppastyle504 23 points24 points ago

And hi from New Orleans. Leaving tomorrow if a mandatory evacuation is called! :(

[–]Kriptik 8 points9 points ago

girlfriend just moved down there. worried sick about it

[–]PlaySwitzerland 4 points5 points ago

Happy Reddit Birthday!

[–]st3amb0y 5 points6 points ago

i bet his girlfriend didn't even get him anything

[–]WhirlingDervishes 2 points3 points ago

They're really not that bad, bro. I've heard of 3 hurricane parties already haha.

[–]Bloviously 12 points13 points ago

I left today to stay in Zachary with my family. Fuck traffic.

[–]willworkforicecream 3 points4 points ago

Oh man. I lived in Slaughter for a while and had to drive between there and New Orleans/Baton Rouge somewhat regularly. The traffic was terrible then, I can't imagine what it would be like with a hurricane on the way.

[–]Iamducky 6 points7 points ago

Leaving in like 3 hours from New Orleans

[–]willworkforicecream 9 points10 points ago

Good luck. And on the off chance that you're headed as far inland as Utah, feel free to bring me a po-boy.

[–]ElmoTheRapist 2 points3 points ago

Be safe. I'm choosing to ride it out, even with the chances of the eye passing directly over me.

[–]Bloviously 2 points3 points ago

Watch out for the cops. They like ticketing early evacuees.

[–]Grandpajoe 2 points3 points ago

I've worked evacuations and sheltering for several hurricanes. I remember 14 hour drives from NO to BR. I remember the lines of people getting on buses. I've also seen people drive to Oklahoma for a hotel room for a big storm. This hopefully won't be ANYWHERE near that bad. But be prepared you guys, stay safe, and pack a FULL tank of gas and a lot of snacks for the road and call up your friends and family for places to crash. Stay safe!

[–]Grifftology 3 points4 points ago

Hello from Hollister, MO! Apparently my wife's brother and his family might be coming up here (designated evacuation destination i guess?) to stay with us. Hope you're ok!!

[–]docfelt 4 points5 points ago

Checking the weather channel, and the damned thing seems to want to go slightly more west. Which is a terrible, terrible thing.

I expect an evacuation notice from Landrieu tomorrow morning.

[–]Walrusonator 1 point2 points ago

Lakeside- Time for a vacation up north!

[–]RocketLauncher 0 points1 point ago

I miss New Orleans and it's wonderful annual hurricanes.

[–]kilogramZombies11111 0 points1 point ago

Nola hasn't got one yet? Alabama got one yesterday for anything south of I-10.

[–]colonel_mortimer 0 points1 point ago

I just heard they're not issuing an evacuation. Apparently they're really confident in the rebuilt levies.

[–]_supernovasky_ 16 points17 points ago

Baton Rouge.

LSU CLASSES WILL STILL GO ON TOMORROW WTF

[–]awiley 5 points6 points ago

I know right! But let's see who actually shows up. Including professors haha.

[–]KelseyLeila 5 points6 points ago

Tulane has class today too. Even though half the students have already evacuated.

[–]Ayzel 2 points3 points ago

Delgado still has classes too

[–]ScoopsDick 0 points1 point ago

shit hasn't hit the fan yet. Why would they close down school tomorrow.

[–]WhirlingDervishes 0 points1 point ago

[–]YankeeBravo 0 points1 point ago

Considering the fleet weather center isn't anticipating landfall until late tomorrow and still is uncertain as to whether landfall will be N.O., Galveston or somewhere nearer the west side of Alabama....Then throw in how long it'll take to make its way to Baton Rouge...having classes today and tomorrow morning/afternoon doesn't seem unreasonable.

[–]ootika 0 points1 point ago

I know you posted this 15 hours ago, BUT CLASS IS CANCELLED TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY!!!

[–]A_Stoned_Saint 9 points10 points ago

Hello from Lafayette, I have no idea if it is going to affect us too much.

[–]Itsameeee 8 points9 points ago

Hi there from Houma. I like the fact that they sent us in from offshore and I'm still getting paid. WHOOOO FREE MONEY!!

[–]baronlableu 5 points6 points ago

Pensacola, here. No work! :)

[–]osmsaws 4 points5 points ago

Slidell, here. It's gonna be a shit storm.

[–]RelentlessBlount 10 points11 points ago

Hola from Baton Rouge, school will probably be canceled and I've got the alcohol ready.

[–]lkmakeupyourmind 8 points9 points ago

Go tigers!

[–]alecbg 6 points7 points ago

Broadmoor here. We be drinkin already.

[–]willworkforicecream 5 points6 points ago

LSU? The alcohol is always ready.

[–]osmsaws 5 points6 points ago

I'd like an invite to this shindig.

[–]brookuslicious 2 points3 points ago

I second this.

[–]TiffanieYO 2 points3 points ago

I'm also from Baton Rouge! It's going to hit on my birthday, so I'll be drunk.

[–]helium_farts 2 points3 points ago

Slidell here as well, I'm bugging out tomorrow.

[–]brookuslicious 2 points3 points ago

Slidell here, too. Are you leaving? No one I know is...

[–]kajunkennyg 4 points5 points ago

Hi there from Galliano. I actually witnessed two "ladies" wrestle for the last 5 cans of Spam at Walmart earlier, good times!

[–]Petticoat5 3 points4 points ago

Hello from Mobile! South Alabama has class tomorrow too. : (

[–]MnBran6 0 points1 point ago

Chicago. I just want to be included.

[–]lurking_my_ass_off 7 points8 points ago

Gonzales here, got the nook and kindle charged, and mainly hoping the storm fucks off to Georgia somewhere.

[–]tukutz 2 points3 points ago

aw my grandparents live in Gonzales, spent my summer there.

[–]Apples212 4 points5 points ago

Howdy from Slidell here, I had to go to 6 different gas stations tonight to get gas :(

[–]docfelt 3 points4 points ago

Shit. I have to drive to Covington tomorrow. : /

[–]helium_farts 4 points5 points ago

Wal-mart down at 10 still had gas at 8:30.

[–]Apples212 2 points3 points ago

I ended up on a Shell on Gause.

[–]timidlurker 2 points3 points ago

Hammond here. Let's do this thing.

[–]Durzo_Blint 5 points6 points ago

Boston here. What's a hurricane?

[–]shooter190 2 points3 points ago

Chalmette.

Shit's going to get really real.

[–]Idontlikecock 2 points3 points ago

Mandeville checking in. I think we got this.

[–]jordanlm 1 point2 points ago

Hi from Baton Rouge... I like my power...

[–]hey_look1 1 point2 points ago

I'm at LSU. We still have class, despite the whole state of emergency.

[–]kampfschafe 1 point2 points ago

Upvote for being in Hammond, don't think there are many of us here.

[–]purpledragons 1 point2 points ago

Baton Rouge here. We're all about to get fucked. Ready to party hard with Isaac.

[–]SammyLocked 1 point2 points ago

A fellow Hammond-er! Here's to hoping they cancel class/work for us!

[–]EndymionsDream 0 points1 point ago

Greetings from Lake Charles

Shit's about to get kinda windy and wet.

[–]ThatUnoriginalGuy 0 points1 point ago

Hopefully this hurricane will be like Gustav and just rain a shit ton. Then again I live in Monroe so the worst we'll get is just 35-50 mph winds.

[–]sweetjunglelove 1 point2 points ago

as a redditor living in miami this is how i feel http://imgur.com/BTBy5

[–]Audioworm 0 points1 point ago

Greetings from Manipal, we're riding out a monsoon

[–]Miethos 0 points1 point ago

[–]KayTheMissingno 0 points1 point ago

[–]abyssea 0 points1 point ago

baton rouge here, nothing's canceled at this time.

[–]datoneazn 0 points1 point ago

Amite/Hammond here, have u guys been to the gas stations lately?? It's ridiculous Same with Walmart

[–]Foahr 0 points1 point ago

Hi from Ponchatoula.

[–]docfelt 0 points1 point ago

Hammond is mostly tapped of gas now.

Stranded at home until my buddy can bring me a couple gallons. I'm not going anywhere, though. Stuck here for work.

[–]I_R_Teh_Taco 32 points33 points ago

Two days ago "there is a chance it won't hit us." today "yeah, we're screwed."

[–]kajunkennyg 18 points19 points ago

Deja vu! Same shit happened with Katrina.

[–]colonel_mortimer 1 point2 points ago

At least it will be several categories weaker, which is nice...but also what they said about Katrina IIRC

[–]teganyavo 4 points5 points ago

Reverse reactions. Sincerely, Pensacola

[–]SammyLocked 30 points31 points ago

I just came from a 13 hour shift at a grocery store. Do you know how people react when they hear the word "hurricane?" I've seen some things man...

[–]Kinbensha 9 points10 points ago

Resident of South Korea here. We're about to get hit by the largest typhoon this decade, apparently, and no one is acting any different from usual. In the US, we evacuate sometimes, right? Here in South Korea, there's nowhere to evacuate to. So we're just sitting around, covering our cars with plastic and stuff...

[–]5kToSelfDestruction 19 points20 points ago

So the idea of heading North is a no-go?

[–]colonel_mortimer 0 points1 point ago

It happens in the north with pretty much any major snowstorm too.

[–]WeLoveKanjimari 0 points1 point ago

From what I've heard they sit around in their houses saying "It's just a little rain".

Then their lives get destroyed.

Right? That's how people react, right?

[–]rjr49 17 points18 points ago

I am in key west and it was not that bad although I am completely hammered and dictating this post to a bartender at sloppy joes

[–]KONY_The_Tiger 3 points4 points ago

I know that exact Sloppy Joes.

[–]Astrognome 14 points15 points ago

Move to Jean Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop.It was built in 1772, I think it can survive another hurricane.

[–]AngryHippy 1 point2 points ago

I'd rather stick out somewhere that isn't 5 bucks for a bud light.

[–]Buscat 32 points33 points ago

Me, as a Canadian being told last week that I'd be sent to Louisiana for my job:

"Yay! I'm going to eat cajun food and get sunshine when our summer is basically over!"

Me, this week:

"I am going to be hurricaned to death." :(

[–]willworkforicecream 16 points17 points ago

I lived in Louisiana for two years. Summer never ends.

[–]awiley 8 points9 points ago

There could never be a statement more true than this. I've lived here all my life - winter does not exist here.

[–]kellseaa 4 points5 points ago

Hey.. At least santa still comes

[–]YankeeBravo 1 point2 points ago

Yes it does.

Winter in N.O. can be absolutely freezing. Unnatural to be on the gulf and that damn cold.

[–]SammyLocked 4 points5 points ago

You would not survive the humidity my friend. Lol

[–]laughmoredancemore 0 points1 point ago

Well if you do have a housing issue (it be gone, etc.), Mike Holmes will probably be down again to help. Be well and go hear some outstanding music for those of us who haven't been lucky enough to go to the Big Easy.

[–]KayTheMissingno 0 points1 point ago

nah, don't worry about it. It's just gonna rain and wind for a day or so, and maybe a tree or 2 will fall. Then you will clean debris out of the yard. All signs will be gone by labor day :)

[–]teganyavo 0 points1 point ago

Lol, the best time to visit the Gulf Coast is really the spring or fall. Summer tends to be overly humid/regular monsoon season.

Seriously in NW Florida it has rained over 50% of days this summer

[–]Antivero 9 points10 points ago

Mean while in South Florida

[–]Accidentallystoned 3 points4 points ago

As a Floridian I can confirm this as 100% true.

[–]VelocityRD 0 points1 point ago

Miami reporting in. This is true, even though it is windy as hell outside right now...

[–]bickham88 16 points17 points ago

bob breck can save us

[–]regul 5 points6 points ago

Fuck that, Carl Arredondo 4 lyfe.

[–]barricus 7 points8 points ago

Ladies and gentlemen, I present a work by Steve Reich: It's Gonna Rain. If you want to listen to the 2nd part, here it is.

[–]herencia 6 points7 points ago

New Orleans here, too. I can't even handle the closeness to the Katrina anniversary. So much anxiety :(

[–]brookuslicious 5 points6 points ago

TIL there are more redditors in my city than I thought. O__O And right around the corner!

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]brookuslicious 3 points4 points ago

Shoot, it even rained at night.

[–]gulpeg 6 points7 points ago

Isaac 26:8 said "it's gonna rain in the Big Easy"

[–]shollman 3 points4 points ago

Destrehan, Louisiana here. About 15 minutes outside New Orleans. Mandatory evacuations? Why not throw party!

[–]annyev 6 points7 points ago

I'm from Galveston. I know how just how you feel. Good luck and get out early if you need to.

[–]jdowpcs 2 points3 points ago

Houston here. Hoping it stays east .... they keep shifting the ttrack closer and closer. One model has iit going right through us. Not that Louisiana needs one either, though.

[–]NoLA504 2 points3 points ago

Yeah. I'm sure Ill be called to the hospital I work at and have to spend a night or two. Sucks, but we have been lucky for a few years.

[–]mazman1 2 points3 points ago

She just whores her dog out - How I feel looking at your user overview. lol

[–]Habosh 2 points3 points ago

Nope, living on the Gulf Coast for the last 10 years I can almost say with certainty that the people of New Orleans are saying "Fuck".

[–]dmanbiker 2 points3 points ago

I work a call center for a college in New Orleans and people kept calling in asking if school was going to be cancelled the 27th due to the storm and I was just like, "I don't know! I live in Arizona, I didn't know it could rain enough to close a school!"

[–]Jack767 2 points3 points ago

Youtube link if anyone wants it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktAKHww9wPo

[–]kellseaa 1 point2 points ago

I don't know if it's just me talking because Katrina affected me, but I can't stand hurricane jokes.

[–]jeffiguritout 1 point2 points ago

Its raining sideways!

[–]mimemime 1 point2 points ago

Thank you, Ollie.

[–]Kademistric 1 point2 points ago

I live in Krotz Springs, about 40 minutes from Lafayette. I don't think it's going to be to bad over here.

[–]regul 13 points14 points ago

Fuck your speed limit and fuck your wait-behind-the-bridge cops.

[–]kellseaa 2 points3 points ago

Actually, the chief of police for the town that the cops are from got arrested yesterday for falsifying timesheets but paying based off a quota.

[–]kajunkennyg 0 points1 point ago

In other news, Lafourche Parish will not allow the sale of alcohol tomorrow. This is according to a friend of mine who owns a grocery story.

[–]lilblake91 4 points5 points ago

FUCK

[–]jingle82 0 points1 point ago

Sad thing is he was at the top of his class.

[–]Aristo-Cat 1 point2 points ago

As a fellow New Orleanian, yeah, this is pretty accurate. And greetings to you, sir.

[–]A_Wild_Missingno 0 points1 point ago

Yo quit hoggin all the rain bro

[–]stillmon 0 points1 point ago

there won't be a hurricane. it's fine

[–]omerta901 0 points1 point ago

I've only been there twice and it rained for the majority of both trips.

[–]GiantWhaleCannon 0 points1 point ago

I don't like the looks of this. How much could it intensify before it hits land?

[–]brodeur955 -1 points0 points ago

[–]JesusChrist5 0 points1 point ago

I like how the temperature measure is from cold to coldest.

[–]car_bon 0 points1 point ago

I'm supposed to move to Memphis on Saturday. Debating whether or not I should just leave tomorrow instead.

[–]TheUnluckySock 0 points1 point ago

Lake Charles here, I don't think it will be that bad for us.

[–]Gary_the_Goatfucker 0 points1 point ago

Welcome to northwest Canada.

Rain is your friend here.

[–]NOLARefugee 0 points1 point ago

NEW ORLEANS!! God I don't want to be a refugee again.

[–]omgsogay 0 points1 point ago

I moved to New Orleans for the summer and am leaving tomorrow, just by chance. I'm a little bummed that I'm going to miss an epic storm, but also happy to be going home to safety.

Everyone is freaking out here though, the gas stations and wal-marts and stuff were packed today with people buying gas and water and other essentials.

[–]Echelon64 0 points1 point ago

Lookin' like it gona rain Y'all.

[–]tonycoolmen 0 points1 point ago

[–]YankeeBravo 2 points3 points ago

I hope not.

That'd be absolutely tragic.

[–]TigFan15 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the day off of school, rain :)

Signed, Polk County Florida

[–]dr_sanchez 1 point2 points ago

Try living in the UK....it's how shit seems to be for 90% of the year

[–]Big_D_palmtrees -1 points0 points ago

I came here looking for Katrina jokes... I was thoroughly disappointed

[–]DoktuhParadox 0 points1 point ago

I hope hurricane Issac isn't like Issac Clarke.

You know.

With lasers, kinetics...

I'll shut up now.

[–]lastangrydwarf 0 points1 point ago

I'm in Taiwan right now, and typhoon Tembin just passed us. It had so much fun here that it decided to turn around and have another go.

[–]saberus 0 points1 point ago

From the P-town (Plaquemine) south of Baton Rouge. Have to stick around to keep watch on the 911 phones. :(

[–]Molcat 0 points1 point ago

[–]sqazm 0 points1 point ago

[–]superhipster303 0 points1 point ago

No, thank God. But there is a large pond feet away from my back door. It floods over whenever it rains. I shudder to think what it will do for Isaac.

[–]LePandaMan 0 points1 point ago

Yes. Just Yes.

This is how I feel in Mandeville.
