Being an adult seems pretty shit when you get your own place and have to pay bills and what-have-you. It gets better when you realise you can have ice cream for breakfast whenever you feel like it.

And guns, and as many cars as you want, and guitars, and video games. All you need is a productive degree, and a bit of experience.

My advice to college freshman would be to take a year off to work/intern/volunteer (and live off your parents like the OP did) or join the military (Nat'l Guard pays your tuition while go to school, full active duty takes longer, but the GI Bill pays all your tuition when you go back + E5 monthly pay rate + semester book stipend).

Those are all good things (except guns which I have no opinion of, as they aren't available to the public where I live), but for me, there was nothing quite as satisfying as the first time I realised I could eat that entire carton of boysenberry swirl vanilla ice cream and no one could say otherwise.

I cannot relate. Sure, it isn't as easy, paying your own bills and such, but there is a lot of peace to be had, living away from the family. I suppose it depends on how things with said family are, though.

Honestly, my first time living on my own was a huge relief.

Unfortunately, it doesn't get any better.

Driving to work today, car cuts out. Take it to the shop. Entire ignition system caught on fire and it's going to be 2k or so to fix it entirely.

Not worth it. :P

Unfortunately, this is going to happen to my sister in law... she has shitty grades, no internships, no relevant work experience, and she thinks she will just find a good job after college... I had decent work experience and grades and it took me a good while to find a job with decent pay... any she knows that too... <My wife an I say the same thing and talk to her about it but she doesn't do anything about it... this will happen to her... after her 6 year venture in college :/ any1 have any advice to knock some sense into her to get her to get put of her shitty job and pick up her grades?
