Probably has to do with the fact that it was invented by the people some of our ancestors nearly murdered out of existence here in the states.

I think dehydrated meat has been around nearly as long as we have (doesn't spoil quickly and is good for you so it was perfect for early human survival) so I really have no idea why it wouldn't be in Europe.

When I was five years old I made a lifelong friend who's parents were from France. Their family moved back to France, but every time he or one of his family members visits, he makes damn sure that the majority of the luggage going back is filled with jerky.
