"Generic" image macros/memes (where the character itself is not related to gaming) like Scumbag Steve, Good Guy Greg, etc. will be removed. Something that "reminds you of a game", or "looks like something from a game" is also not an appropriate submission.

It's always fun to go over to /r/atheism and post the WOLOLO priest just to see if you can get some converts

[–]thejam15 5 points6 points ago

This made me laugh more than it should. My dad is an orthodox priest, I'm going to see if I can get him to say this during a sermon or just when he is out and about in his cassock

As someone who doesn't know what AOE is, can I have this comic explained to me in a manner that doesn't point out my stupidity?

[–]Highlighter_Freedom 48 points49 points ago

It's your cakeday, so... yes! AOE is a computer strategy game called "Age of Empires" in which the player directs the development of an ancient civilization, competing with rivals for resources and territory.

In short, it's Starcraft with Hoplites.

Anyway, in this game, one unit (the priest pictured here) could "convert" enemy units to your side by waving his staff and shouting "Wololo" over and over until the unit changed color, indicating its affiliation with the new player. The unit and his former comrades, if within range, would then auto-attack one another on sight like any other enemy units would.

Priests were the best. There was a time when I seized part of an enemy's city right as they destroyed mine. I managed to take control of their towers and soldier to kill off all their workers and barely won.

[–]Panagoman 2 points3 points ago

Yeah, I agree. Concerting enemy elephants could pretty much change the outcome of the game.

I thought it was area of effect... I think I'll jump in a septic tank now.

[–]Marzman315 1 point2 points ago

Makes much more sense now. Thank you good sir!

[–]jimlii -2 points-1 points ago

No hoplites, actually. You are thinking of Age of Mythology.

[–]Highlighter_Freedom 1 point2 points ago

You're thinking Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings. Age of Empires did indeed have hoplites. You built them at the Academy.

[–]jimlii 1 point2 points ago

Rats. Never played the first one. The day is yours.

I learned so much from the Civilization and Age of Mythology series.

"Just killed my friend with an axe #WOLO" ~the twitter of my dreams

[–]jman583 20 points21 points ago

Every time this image is reposted it shrinks a little in size.

[–]Shakedatmoo 7 points8 points ago

I miss the old AOE monks, this HUAAAA AH HUAAA HUAA stuff is annoying.

[–]TrueMilli 4 points5 points ago

Also: Great and unique gameplay.

Me and my friend used to create a map with a 100 priests to see who could make an entire lap of the area. Of course the map had obstacles alligators and lions roamed the first length, the second had a maze full of wall with archers on top of a priest made a wrong turn they were met by a group of club men to be beaten savagely. The third length had a water running parallel with the priest boats would patrol the river raining arrows and catapults at the weary priests. Finally the last length usually some 20 priests were left at this stage, the priests simply had to get past another priest from the other team (note to win the race the priest has to be in his original colour usually blue) anyway we usually had a little celebration at the end than had the priest walk back towards the lions for his award that being death. Thought you guys might like to hear of an old game me and friend played :) .

[–]elskel 1 point2 points ago

I used to enslave dozens of monks in a little pen, then delete a section of the wall if I became over run. Ah, I miss this game!

[–]donutsalad 0 points1 point ago

I swear this image gets smaller each time it's posted. Who made this anyway?

[–]AoE_Monk 0 points1 point ago

WOLOLO

[–]CrazyDave48 0 points1 point ago

I live in a house with 50 other guys at College. We have AOE II LAN parties every weekend and I wish I could share the game with more people who haven't experienced it. It has aged fantastically!

[–]Foxehh 0 points1 point ago

Her shirt changed colors.

[–]Animedingo -2 points-1 points ago

I don't get it

[–]KommodoreAU 12 points13 points ago

Well besides being reposted for the 10th time, both the girls are wearing blue showing they are the same side, the red monk comes and coverts her to the red team which was the role of monks in Age of Empires (besides healing) to convert enemy units, and now since they are enemies the blue and red fight each other.

[–]Animedingo 1 point2 points ago

I didn't catch that the girl on the right had her shirt change color

[–]jeffk47 5 points6 points ago

I'm guessing you didn't play AoE when it first came out

[–]Animedingo 3 points4 points ago

I tried it once a few years back. I was an age of mythology guy

[–]jeffk47 0 points1 point ago

Give it a shot- easily my favorite RTS of all time, and the map makers meant endless fun

[–]andrewdawg 1 point2 points ago

I enjoyed Age of mythology infinitely more. I have a feeling this opinion is less than popular but dude. Myth units. God powers. Great game. I spent soo much time. The things I would do for a remake.

[–]Oizon 0 points1 point ago

The one game i wanted Ensemble to push out before dying. Got AoE3 and Halo wars instead :/

[–]Animedingo 0 points1 point ago

Agreed. I always found the use of magic and magical creatures by far more fun then building planes and shit. Especially when you get to summon a titan

[–]CosmicBard -2 points-1 points ago

You need to internet better.

[–]Zachel -1 points0 points ago

Because you can repost this every week?

I see your point.

[–]Hammers_n_Strings 0 points1 point ago

This just references the game; it doesn't suggest at all why it would be your favorite...

[–]Norse_Ginger -2 points-1 points ago

I think we should update this comic a little so that the monk goes YOLOLO instead.

Let the downvotes rain and devour my karma!

[–]hells_cowbells 4 points5 points ago

Honestly, when I first started seeing people talk about YOLO around here, I thought they were talking about AOE.
