Imagine living the rest of your life with that memory of looking at the whole Earth with your naked vision.

[–]Ramensauce 11 points12 points ago

I can't, that is too incredible.

[–]JVM_ 24 points25 points ago

His life just peaked, there's nothing more he could do that would top what he had just done.

[–]agrif 22 points23 points ago

Luckily, that didn't stop him from trying.

[–]Maln 8 points9 points ago

Nothing anyone has yet to do that would top what he has done.

That's basically all you need to disprove the moon-landing conspiracy people.

[–]42420 4 points5 points ago

Nah they can just work around it. For example, they could say that the astronauts weren't in on the conspiracy and so genuinely thought they were on the moon.

They had really good cameras on that thing.

Behold, film... Not a digital sensor, but pure, analog, film.

[–]thiflyingtomato 6 points7 points ago

Yup, they were medium format Hasseblad's.They used captured a beautiful, large, physical medium.

You can get a better picture now on digital, but just like you did with the great film cameras back then, you're gonna pay out the wazoo.

Here's one for a cool $29,999.

That stands to be debated. Forgive me, I'm a purist. While the resolution of a top-end digital camera may be undetectable to a naked eye. It's still all pixels and data.

I love both formats, each has their own unique pro's and cons.

Did the cameras have to be fortified to protect them from all the radiations up there?

[–]Womec 0 points1 point ago

Actual film is far more forgiving and takes a better photo in my opinion than any digital camera you can get for less than a thousand dollars, however, the higher end digital cameras are far superior usually.

Thanks for going into a little more detail than the other replies. I'm wondering how exactly the photo was taken though, and what kind of film it was taken on. It sure as hell doesn't look like one of those disposable Kodaks. :p

Also a lot of the times you don't need to bracket your exposures with film because it can collect a wider range of light than if you were using a digital sensor.

Example:

Whole article about why photographers still love and use film:

Another good point it makes is the fact that film has a lot of pros over digital, but it also has all the technical editing pros of digital because you can just scan a film into a computer and be able to edit it just as you would a digital. Really the only drawback is having to reload film and buy film. Of course if you aren't a professional and just want a point and shoot, film is probably a bad idea.

Ah, sad laughter.

[–]d_cas 3 points4 points ago

very cool.

[–]Azsamael 6 points7 points ago

That is just beautiful! None of us can imagine that feeling. His eyes are just full of complete awe and wonder. That guy was a true legend, and God among mere mortals.

[–]CupCaked 2 points3 points ago

Out of all the other posts related to his death this one has the most affect on me. Such a strong picture allows me to feel a bit of what he felt during at least one of the most amazing beautiful experiences of his life if not THE most amazing which is entirely possible.

[–]jnet 1 point2 points ago

I totally agree. This more than anything else, made me tear up over his death. The look on his face of what he has just done, the realisation of the enormity of it. It's a truly beautiful picture.

Thanks OP for posting it.

I like how the bokeh from the film camera made the light switch into a heart. It adds a subtle nuance to the whole entire picture.

[–]paco_is_paco 1 point2 points ago

Oh the subReddits one discovers when someone famous dies... that end in "-porn"...

[–]joemangle 0 points1 point ago

Great picture, but did he step out onto the moon and then "minutes later" get back inside the LEM?

[–]doctorofphysick 0 points1 point ago

minutes after walking on the moon

Not "minutes after stepping onto the moon"...

[–]Alpha-Leader 0 points1 point ago

I have seen this picture so many times, I never realized he was crying.

[–]jb2lk 0 points1 point ago

I wouldnt say crying...just happy
