Ringo's mom.

[–]pinksockdragon 56 points57 points ago

finally, thank you

[–]mismetti 10 points11 points ago

[citation needed]

[–]jsellout 7 points8 points ago

NO. Ringo's mom was not that short.

[–]TriesWayTooHard 4 points5 points ago

Shes wearing high heels in that photo.

[–]jsellout 10 points11 points ago

So is Ringo.

[–]Gravesh 0 points1 point ago

[–]spacebrony 15 points16 points ago

so THAT's who dropped him on his head as a baby

ninja edit: in The Beatles cartoon show (yes, that existed during Beatlemania), it was a joke that Ringo was dropped on his head as a baby.

[–]bigcon28 8 points9 points ago

Source?

[–]aceoftrachs 23 points24 points ago

Her vagina I suppose.

[–]pandarapist 5 points6 points ago

Just do a google search with, "ringo's mom abbey road." There you go.

[–]sweetcheeks1090 45 points46 points ago

wait Paul's wearing flip flops....HE LIVES!!

[–]OCDb 7 points8 points ago

I knew someone would beat me to it.

[–]oomio10 3 points4 points ago

I dont get it

[–]Starman72 18 points19 points ago

There's an urban legend that the real Paul McCartney died and was replaced with a lookalike. One of the things people point to as 'evidence' is that the cover of Abbey Road represents a funeral procession and since Paul isn't wearing shoes he is the corpse.

[–]e0nblue 5 points6 points ago

This is by far the dumbest and most interesting thing I've read today. Thank you for this.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

[–]wxyzed 9 points10 points ago

For a while during the Beatles' heyday, there were rumors that Paul was dead. People who wanted to believe these rumors took the fact that he was barefoot in the Abbey Road picture as a coded confirmation of that rumor, saying that he represented the dead body in a funeral procession (or something equally stupid).

[–]-Dys- 6 points7 points ago

IIRC: in england, people are buried with bare feet. At the time of the album, the rumor was that he was dead because he had bare feet. It was quite the troll and free publicity stunt of the time. Before those words were even known.

[–]JustSoWitty 3 points4 points ago

No we aren't

[–]wanda3000 5 points6 points ago

Ah it has been a few years since I've heard the exact story, but there is this thing that in one of the songs off the white album if you play it backwards it is john saying 'paul is a dead man' over and over. People use paul as the only one not wearing shoes in the abbey road cover as being a sign that he was actually dead and there was a stand in paul. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that's the myth

[–]Chimbley_Sweep 4 points5 points ago

Pretty much, but playing the album backwards is a vague clue no one can really point to. More popular, at the end of "Strawberry Fields", a slow deep voice is supposed to say, "I buried Paul." That's just one of many "clues" indicating Paul McCartney died in 1966 and was replaced by an imposter.

[–]brussels4breakfast 2 points3 points ago

You are correct about this myth. Also, for years (even now), many people still believe that Paul is dead and the 'real' Paul is a guy named Faul.

[–]zamattiac 0 points1 point ago

I heard they had a look-a-like contest for him and the winner was William Shears. At the end of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, they introduce 'the one and only Billy Shears.'

[–]Lottanubs 2 points3 points ago

There was a big conspiracy going around where everyone thought Paul was dead. In the Abbey Road picture, he isn't wearing any shoes which some people associated with death or whatever. Also, at the end of Strawberry Fields you can hear "I buried Paul" being spoken really quietly. Of course the line was actually "cranberry sauce" and the whole thing was just a frenzy of bullshit.

[–]FLguy444[S] 2 points3 points ago

There's a conspiracy theory that Paul actually died in 1966 and they've tried to cover it up.

[–]mad_gardener 73 points74 points ago

Fast forward to now, replace the Beatles with a steady stream of tourists:

"I'm sorry I'm disrupting your walk home, I'm about to make a bastardised replica of a pic of something I once saw on an album cover"

over and over and over again....

[–]phattmatt 73 points74 points ago

[–]ChronicAddiction 21 points22 points ago

Three people just waved to me. How did they know?

[–]brussels4breakfast 0 points1 point ago

Lol. I just watched it again and a girl stopped in the middle of the cross walk while her friend took a pic of her.

[–]ni0s 0 points1 point ago

Stopped and sat down on the middle of the road before rushing away from incoming traffic!

[–]NoveltyAccount5928 33 points34 points ago

I watched that for 5 minutes and didn't see a single person cross that road who wasn't a complete moron.

[–]SeverePsychosis 7 points8 points ago

holy shit literally took less then 4 seconds for me to see someone being a dumbass

edit: just saw someone cross it maybe 6 times in a row

[–]DETECTIVE_DICKFACE 4 points5 points ago

Oh my sweet fucking jesus.

I feel so bad for the locals, here is an album I just compiled after watching this shit for 15 minutes...

Yes, that large group ran onto the road and posed like retards not once, not twice, but three full times.

It's also hilarious that absolutely no one gets the pose correct.

[–]mad_gardener 2 points3 points ago

Yep and yep.

Most fun I have with the tourists is, on a rainy day, telling a group that they're doing it wrong b/c Paul had no shoes on. More than 50% of the time, someone will take their shoes off as a result...

The exaggerated hands is probably the worst thing, looks v.v. stupid. If I'm driving, I don't stop unless they're actually on the road..

[–]Cathycalamitous 5 points6 points ago

Sigh...it's night time and I see nothing.

[–]str8slash12 1 point2 points ago

Bookmarked for tomorrow.

[–]Cathycalamitous 0 points1 point ago

I understand now....wow....

[–]qwak 0 points1 point ago

I just watched the same guy standing around in the middle of the road and then walking back and forth across it for 5 minutes. I didn't even see anyone with a camera there so not idea what he was doing.

[–]brussels4breakfast 7 points8 points ago

I watched it too and never saw The Beatles. I'll just go stand over here.....

[–]elastic-craptastic 2 points3 points ago

I saw at least 3 people attempt to cross, only to pull a squirrel/deer maneuver and run back when they were halfway across. One guy was like 2/3 the way there and ran back.

[–]NoveltyAccount5928 1 point2 points ago

My favorite are the people who go halfway across and stop while someone else is crossing from the other direction. Once the person going the other way is finally halfway and out of the way of traffic in that lane, the original moron who's waiting in the middle finishes crossing.

[–]semajojom 1 point2 points ago

I didn't believe you, but as soon as it loaded some one almost got hit trying to cross the road.

[–]Terraforce 18 points19 points ago

Every second i'm watching this i feel more sorry for the drivers and give them huge respect for not running these fucking muppets over.

[–]duudass 6 points7 points ago

never drive that part of NW8 - it's like this every day.

edit: and not a lot of drivers actually stop for that crossing anymore...

[–]Chinese_redditor 2 points3 points ago

Haha when pedestrians don't treat it as a zebra crossing i'm not going to either.

[–]jax9999[!] 6 points7 points ago

i'm watching that cam, and the people that strut across the road... it's hilarious. this crossing is the birth of a million facebook profile pictures.

[–]Zarknord 3 points4 points ago

There is an old man walking back and forth over it for the past 5 mins and he is holding every one up!

[–]Janse 2 points3 points ago

Haha, poor drivers.

[–]FascistDonut 3 points4 points ago

What's up with the crooked road lines? Is that common?

[–]gufdon-upon-labur 0 points1 point ago

It's everywhere in the UK. I never really figured out what they mean... sort of like "Watch out, pedestrian crossing right here" I guess.

[–]b3mus3d 0 points1 point ago

I didn't realise other countries didn't have them! I think it's a pretty smart idea, no need for traffic light crossings most of the time really.

[–]Seizure-Man 1 point2 points ago

You aren't allowed to park there, so that the pedestrians can see the oncoming traffic.

[–]mad_gardener 2 points3 points ago

The crooked (zigzagg-y) lines just mean no stopping (at least in the UK), common at or near junctions. If you stop, you get fined. Have gotten done by an automatic camera once on those for dropping someone off, worst £50 ever spent.

[–]jawillde 1 point2 points ago

Found the answer: Zebra crossing

[–]MoroccoBotix 0 points1 point ago

They're Zebra Crossings.

[–]akatherder 5 points6 points ago

Thanks for this lower down in the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:SchoolCrossing.jpg

[–]sigaven 2 points3 points ago

Are there webcams like this all over the world? It's amazing I can see what is going on right now in a city halfway across the world, streaming live in high quality with sound.

[–]Combustible_lem0ns 2 points3 points ago

I feel like I missed out. Went to it and it was like five people.walking nonchalantly.

[–]WrightJustice 2 points3 points ago

Haha, I clicked and there was 4 people doing it.

[–]Edgar4llanPwn 2 points3 points ago

British pedestrians are hardcore. Those guys are like "Fuck you car, I'm walkin here"

[–]CeeBeeNE 1 point2 points ago

Pedestrians have right of way over cars when at a zebra crossing.

[–]x4EVERALONEx 0 points1 point ago

Most of these folks aren't Brits.

[–]suo 0 points1 point ago

You'll be surprised mate, not everyone lives in London.

[–]Amsterdom 0 points1 point ago

only took 2 minutes before 4 people did "the walk" amazing

[–]colarg -1 points0 points ago

watched for 1 minute, 3 different groups did the walk, poor drivers, one was honking away and you could tell he was ready to run them over.

[–]brussels4breakfast 0 points1 point ago

That's cool.

[–]wulfgang 0 points1 point ago

(placeholder)

[–]this_guy_over_here 1 point2 points ago

wow within the first 30 seconds of watching lol, the first guy almost got hit by a car, but I wasn't quick enough to get a picture.

[–]GalaxyClass 1 point2 points ago

Clicked the link. About 10 seconds later, somebody almost gets hit by a car. I heard tires squeal as the car comes to a stop.

I sat there wondering if I made up the sound in my head, then I realized it came from my headphones on the desk. The webcam has sound!

Somebody just got honked at while typing this. I feel sorry for anyone who has that intersection on their commute.

[–]this_guy_over_here 1 point2 points ago

I saw that! the red car, I got a print screen right after that happened but I wasn't quick enough, its in the comment I made above yours.

[–]GalaxyClass 1 point2 points ago

So did you see the girl with the paper signs?

Ah, the fun you could have if the camera had a speaker too...

[–]this_guy_over_here 1 point2 points ago

yeah! a few people waving to the camera as well.

[–]GalaxyClass 0 points1 point ago

We need a website that points out the highlights in the archives.

I wonder how many accidents there are there or if all the locals just know to expect bat-shit stupid tourists.

[–]SomeKindOfPalsy 1 point2 points ago

'Intersection'?! Are you not right in the head man??

[–]elastic-craptastic 0 points1 point ago

I would no idea how to drive around there. Why are the lines all wavy? Why do the lampposts blink? The lines in the middle are not yellow, or at least a different color. At first I thought the road to the right was one way, but it isn't. Then it looks like when they turn onto that road from the top of the screen that they are driving on the right now(I think that's just the angle of the camera though).

I would definitely feel like Clarke Griswald if I were to drive there.

[–]ZeroGSpaceCow 0 points1 point ago

That's weird, I watched for like 5 minutes and still didn't see Hugh Grant. Are you sure you have the right camera?

[–]RichWPX 0 points1 point ago

saving

[–]bruint 10 points11 points ago

I once stumbled upon a webcam stream of the crossing, it was one of the most hilariously disorganised scenes I've ever seen.

Cars just constantly waiting impatiently for people to get out of the way, people running everywhere, one guy in a fluro jacket pointing and waving his arms around. It was brilliant.

[–]FLguy444[S] 0 points1 point ago

Sadly, this is too true.

[–]Solomaxwell6 1 point2 points ago

I feel really bad for you folks. The Washington monument dick pics they take in DC are bad enough, but at least the tourists aren't disrupting us locals.

Just between you and me, if you're ever driving past the crossing and decide to plow right through them, I won't call the cops on you.

[–]Einchy 1 point2 points ago

I know it's dumb and cliqued but, goddammit, The fucking Beatles walked there.

[–]sschnaars 1 point2 points ago

I live down the street from that too. I love the tourists, it is like a big group of people welcoming me home from a day at work.

[–]ne_ziggy 7 points8 points ago

I cannot believe the number of angsty Reddit teenagers in this thread.

[–]bronymobile 1 point2 points ago

I can't beleive the number of angsty Reddit teenagers.

Ftfy

[–]gwvent 25 points26 points ago

What exactly is so historic about the picture? I get that the Beatles were good but it's just an album cover right?

[–]rzalph 8 points9 points ago

Thank you! Yeah it's an iconic album cover. But there's nothing historic about it. It wasn't the first, nor was it the greatest, of anything.

Hell, in my opinion, it wasn't even their best album.

[–]Bat_fight -5 points-4 points ago

Abby road is believed to have had the most influence on the world peace movement back then. It's also there best album I think.

[–]giraffricanamerican 3 points4 points ago

That whole world peace thing didn't really work out.

[–]Amsterdom 5 points6 points ago

not to mention all the artists that credited that album in some way

[–]Bat_fight 1 point2 points ago

yea but it seems that everyone thinks they can make a better version of come together but they end up fucking it up.

[–]apostrotastrophe 0 points1 point ago

Right, but the picture's just a picture. Taking that shot didn't create the album.

[–]zeroGamer 1 point2 points ago

[–]Tazari_Hatchetfield 2 points3 points ago

Oh my god kill it with fire!!!

[–]Mcpotsmoke 8 points9 points ago

"Get out of the shot Grandma, You're EMBARRASSING ME."

[–]ftrs13 9 points10 points ago

"Would you boys be kind enough to help an old lady across the street?"

[–]istarttopanic 4 points5 points ago

That's Eleanor Rigby.

[–]SomeKindOfPalsy 0 points1 point ago

No, she was just a tombstone.

[–]duudass 1 point2 points ago

'again'...

[–]randomhero98 3 points4 points ago

This picture is getting as famous as the Abbey Road cover thanks to Reddit

Things...before Reddit?...

[–]shipman 0 points1 point ago

I don't care for the Beatles.

[–]cobaltcollapse 1 point2 points ago

This is funny? Cool, yes, but I can't find anything to laugh about.

[–]phattmatt 3 points4 points ago

[–]commandakeen -2 points-1 points ago

Dammit, let me guess you got it from the askreddit?

[–]OriginalStomper -1 points0 points ago

Wasn't she a costuming assistant for the band?

[–]WhatayaWantFromMe 5 points6 points ago

It's Ringo's momma!

[–]Huwbacca 0 points1 point ago

I used to have to cross there really often... its crazy busy all the time with lots of tourists and angry drivers...

[–]WearSunscreen 1 point2 points ago

They were walking the other direction in the famous shot.

[–]SomeKindOfPalsy 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for the updates.

[–]Intruder313 1 point2 points ago

Not quite, they appear to be on the wrong side of the road....

[–]rytis 0 points1 point ago

actually, during the photo shoot they went both ways. some outtakes

[–]Intruder313 0 points1 point ago

Well yeah I assumed that after making the above crossing they came back over and used the latter - I was just being incredibly pedantic regarding the "about to make history" line :)

I only "discovered" the Beatles a month ago so spotted the direction was opposite to the cover!

[–]SomeKindOfPalsy 1 point2 points ago

I seem to remember hearing about something that people did back in the '60s and early '70s that allowed them to rotate their bodies so they were facing different directions to save them the chore of walking backwards or all the way around the world in order to get to places behind them...

I think it was called 'turning around'?

[–]Intruder313 0 points1 point ago

Outrageous! Why can't we do this nowadays? I blame the gov.

[–]edubyah 1 point2 points ago

That will later be desecrated by One Direction

[–]Cerblu 0 points1 point ago

Typically heard at this location:

"No cars coming... no cars comiiiiing... okay, go! Single file. Oh shit, a car's coming, forget the picture, get out of the middle of the road!"

[–]hoobsher 1 point2 points ago

"no, Ringo, goddamn it, your jacket goes like this. stop playing with it, i'm fucking tired of fixing it."

-Paul McCartney

[–]CrispySeagull 0 points1 point ago

Paul's not barefoot.

[–]SomeKindOfPalsy -1 points0 points ago

Gooooood grief we are perceptive tonight.

[–]nacbrie 0 points1 point ago

I live on Abbey Road and have to dodge the tourists on my bike every day ... IF YOU HAVE ALREADY CROSSED 80% OF THE ROAD, WHY DO YOU RUN BACK THE WAY YOU CAME?

[–]Lurknasty22 -1 points0 points ago

damn dis original content so original

I am not a fan of the beatles but the 1D fags ruined this

[–]clickdelete -3 points-2 points ago

god i hate that stupid fucking picture

[–]bronymobile -1 points0 points ago

The Beatles are an overrated group.

[–]Dulcerios209 1 point2 points ago

Repost

[–]sneakybreadsticks 1 point2 points ago

That would be cool if the last Beatle in the picture was helping her to cross the street.

[–]fubish 1 point2 points ago

That's fucking funny.

[–]Quobrobinson 1 point2 points ago

Awh I love the Beatles <3 my girlfriend showed me them

[–]leworkaccount -1 points0 points ago

It's a boring picture and a boring album.

[–]insoundfromwayout 1 point2 points ago

God, I've never looked at it that way before, you're right.

Thanks for opening my mind. I'm going to go throw my copy away right now.

[–]leworkaccount -1 points0 points ago

I'm glad to inject a fresh opinion into the circlejerk.

[–]SofaCommander -3 points-2 points ago

How exactly is an album cover "history?" I mean, unless it's a Dead Kennedys album or something where the cover is actually a picture of a historic event.

[–]duderino13 1 point2 points ago

Show the album cover to anyone and they'll most likely know the band and/or the album or at least one of the members of the band. Show them a picture of Lichtenstein (without any of the surrounding countries) and they'd wonder why you magnified a speck of dust. The creation of Lichtenstein should be more historical than Abbey Road, but no one gives a shit.

[–]SofaCommander 0 points1 point ago

I bet more people can name a Kardashian sister than the Guglielmo Marconi. Are you saying Keeping Up with the Kardashians was more historic than the invention of the radio?

[–]duderino13 1 point2 points ago

I apologize, I meant to say "should be more historically important than Abbey Road."

But in response to your question: no I wasn't saying that.

I guess it's tough to say in any situation, really, with which events/people are more historically important. In 500 years, will the world still know the Beatles? Will they know Guglielmo Marconi? Is world peace credited to the Kardashians?

[–]SofaCommander 0 points1 point ago

I hope the Kardashians manage to achieve world peace. I'll feel really stupid for some judgements I've made, but sometimes it's good to be wrong.

[–]Thorse -2 points-1 points ago

I don't get it, 4 dudes at a sidewalk? How is this funny?

[–]DeepFriedChildren -4 points-3 points ago

Just dropped in to remind you guys that the Beatles are JUST A BAND. Thanks I'll take my down votes and move along

[–]srsizzy -3 points-2 points ago

I was just raging about how The Beatles will be in music history books in a century, and superior musicians will not.

Additionally, if they thought they were "making history" while taking this picture, if Reddit existed then, it would mock them for being so presumptuous.

[–]Jeffz930 0 points1 point ago

Fun fact. The white VW Beetle on the cover was only there because the old lady that owned it refused to move it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

It's still there, from what I remember.

[–]SomeKindOfPalsy 0 points1 point ago

That wasn't fun at all.

[–]dustindude -3 points-2 points ago

I don't get what's the big deal about the photo.

[–]Amsterdom 1 point2 points ago

it's a few minutes before the album cover for "Abbey Road" by The Beatles was shot

[–]throwAwayMama123 -1 points0 points ago

History? I don't understand. What is the significance of the photo where they are walking across the road? I know it's a good album, but why is that photo so important?

[–]Probaphet -2 points-1 points ago

...make...history...?

Since when are album covers history?

[–]clydefrog811 -2 points-1 points ago

The beatles are overrated

[–]RizzoFromDigg -3 points-2 points ago

Music history. Not like, history history. Abbey Road is an incredible album, but it's not like we're looking at some guys preparing to sign the Treaty of Versailles or anything.

[–]insoundfromwayout 0 points1 point ago

Some view Abbey Road as an important cultural achievement.

Cultural achievements are history; it's what museums are for.

[–]caseyjhol -1 points0 points ago

I'm pretty sure that's not what he said.

[–]FLguy444[S] -3 points-2 points ago

Go figure.

[–]a-dark-passenger -2 points-1 points ago

Paul's dead.

[–]xandan 4 points5 points ago

Paul's dead what?

[–]a-dark-passenger 0 points1 point ago

Paul IS dead. My mistake.

[–]xandan 0 points1 point ago

Okay.

[–]ZeeHypnotist 0 points1 point ago

How is that incorrect? Can you not combine a name with is?

Actually, you're wrong here.

Source 1, Source 2, Source 3, Source 4

[–]xandan 1 point2 points ago

Using a noun with an apostrophe in front of the S shows that the noun is owning something. For example...

Paul's dead cat.

this shows that Paul is owning the dead cat. if i wanted to say Paul IS dead i would have to say.

Paul is dead.

If I wanted to show that there are multiple Pauls I wouldn't include the apostrophe at all.

Pauls are dead.

[–]ZeeHypnotist 0 points1 point ago

Just because it doesn't feel right doesn't mean it is wrong. While "Paul's dead" doesn't sound right (and personally, I'd still advise against it), it's still correct. Technically.

[–]xandan 0 points1 point ago

All i';m saying is that it would be taken as wrong if spoken out loud and therefor should have been put as Paul is dead.

[–]MeGunther 0 points1 point ago

Hey, look! Its the weekly Abbey road post.
