Well I actually finished the series in 3 days (no life) and I thought it was pretty damn funny the whole way through. But I haven't been waiting week-to-week and had no higher hopes for each new episode. I didn't think it was too bad, it got a little more mind-bending in some episodes 2nd season. I use the term mind-bending loosely.

The American one is not bad considering how badly Americans generally fuck up remakes, but the Australian one is far more subtle, funny, and at times even dark.

It's worth downloading the Aussie episodes as well. There's one episode where Adam goes to Queensland to visit his girlfriend's family. They turn out to all be Nudists, and walk around naked all the time. Meanwhile, Wilfred's DAD lives there, and Wilfred has to find him and convince him not to commit suicide by jumping off of a cliff. It's fucking hilarious. And downright weird - something missing from the American version.

Yeah, that's because the original was awesome, but Americans are too fucking dumb to understand subtle humor, so they always take great TV shows, and remake them as CRAP ones, "to appeal to an American audience". Absolutely Fabulous, Wilfred, Kath and Kim, even The Office (which wasn't too bad) have been absolutely massacred by American TV producers, supposedly trying to appeal to American stupidity while still making a buck.

The thing is, the American version of "Wilfred" isn't half bad, primarily because they (amazingly) kept the lead actor (who is the creator). but it's so telling that no no nooo, he can't simply just see his dog as a human, he has to be suffering some kind of "breakdown", so it's like, less weird for the viewer or some other bullshit. Also : so much less swearing.

Seriously - do yourself a favor. SBS only made like one series or so of Wilfred, but it's fucking brilliant, and well worth watching.

As an Australian, who watched the original series of Wilfred on SBS, which was also played by the same guy (who is also the writer/director) I say no no no!. Russel Brand is a fucking hack. The whole point of Wilfred is that he's basically an Aussie bloke - British low-brow humor is far less subtle than the Australian variety.

I used to not be too fond of him but then I watched his interviews and realized that he is naturally funny and his humor flows with the conversation. Hes great at story telling and quick witted. Hes the kind of guy that people would flock to at get-togethers.
