Sign the petition to protect this restoration:http://www.change.org/es/peticiones/ayuntamiento-de-borja-zaragoza-mantenimiento-de-la-nueva-versi%C3%B3n-del-ecce-homo-de-borja Here the reasoning behind the petition which was created by Javier Domingo of Madrid, Spain: The daring work realized by the spontaneous artist on the Ecce Homo of the Sanctuary of Mercy of Borja, implies besides a fond act of love, an intelligent reflexion of the political and social situation of our time. In which is manifest a subtle critique of the creationist theories of the Church, as well as a cuestioning of the surge of new idols. The result of the intervention intelligently combines the primitive expressionism of Francisco de Goya, with figures like Ensor, Munch, Modigliani or the group Die Brücke, belonging to the artistic movement of German expressionism.

Well... Shit!

A beautiful work of art, religious in subject or not, was destroyed by a senile elder who clearly needs supervision, and a lack of proper protections on the artwork in the first place. This is SAD, not funny.

Funny thing is she did the restoration in broad daylight, working several days on it. And now her town is famous. Maybe it could be a good thing too. Check out the trailer someone did for a movie concept of this ordeal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p35CDKEeFfE

I legitimately like what she did to the painting. It's too bad she had to ruin someone else's work in the process, though.

That is the worst part of it, seeing as the grandchild of the original artist still lives in the town and has seen what happened to her grandfather's painting.

[–]shakamalaka 0 points1 point ago

Well, seeing as her grandfather's painting had been essentially left to rot for decades, I can't imagine she has much of a claim to feeling his work was important.

Good point. Many people therefor admire Cecilia because although one could say she botched the painting up, she was apparently the only one that took an interest in fixing it. On the change.org petition, hundreds of Spaniards are stating how they love the restored portrait and how its livened up their days.

Here is the petition by the way: http://www.change.org/es/peticiones/ayuntamiento-de-borja-zaragoza-mantenimiento-de-la-nueva-versi%C3%B3n-del-ecce-homo-de-borja
