I actually think it's interesting and cool looking. A lot of spiders are neat...as long as they aren't biting you I suppose.

[–]Brechlin 20 points21 points ago

Fuck you with a cactus.

[–]Divotus 5 points6 points ago

rolled in salt and broken glass...

[–]nosehat 6 points7 points ago

...and topped with a bird-eatin' spider!

[–]Garizondyly 6 points7 points ago

I was feeling alright until that last bit.

[–]NelsonBig -1 points0 points ago

Lemon juice too?

[–]Jobe233 1 point2 points ago

No sulfuric acid

[–]BurntTheToast 0 points1 point ago

And the cactus fucking rotates.

To get to the nicest beach in Hong Kong you need to walk down a path with literally 100's of these spiders surrounding the path. Sometimes if you are the first of the day to take the path they will have built webs across it and these giants will crawl on you. Really nice beach though...

[–]Cougs67 2 points3 points ago

Looks like that's one beach I will never see.

[–]4everodd 6 points7 points ago

I need new pants.. Da fuq is that thing?

[–]Felonia 8 points9 points ago

Austalia. Knew it!

[–]Navy0Corps 3 points4 points ago

Australia?? dude that shit looks like it came out of the dark corners of the amazon! who the hell let those things live????

[–]biddledee 2 points3 points ago

People with some understanding of ecosystems and that they don't center on human existence.

[–]0verdr1ve 1 point2 points ago

I don't think you fully understand the gravity of this situation. It's either us or this goddamn spider. There can't be any middle ground here.

[–]biddledee -1 points0 points ago

It's presence in a house probably means that there's a giant goddamn hole somewhere where it walked in-- it and any other large insect or small mammal. Smaller, venomous, pestilent or irritating pests are commonly found and vex humans far more than orb spiders.

They're a fascinating spider with unusual tactics and habits. It's bite is milder than a bee sting and primarily eats cricket or grasshopper-sized insects and both makes webs (spanning up to 65ft/19.8m) It's a lucky spider who eats a bird. It either stays in a spun burrow or in its web, and is not aggressive. Generally humans picking it up get bit and that bite is milder than a bee sting for humans. Another BBC UK reports only mention that the birds were dead in the webs when found, and generally such reports are from urban areas. Unless there are reports of Nephila killing live birds the birds might have dropped dead from hitting a window or heart attack.

TL;DR: I have shortening patience for whining about nature. Orb spiders frighten arachnophobes; spiders frighten many humans. Now, hush!

edit: Wrong link syntax fixed. Sorry!

[–]theamelany 0 points1 point ago

|the birds might have dropped dead from hitting a window or heart attack. I'd have a heart attack that thing crept up on me.

[–]Navy0Corps 1 point2 points ago

touche..

[–]PONYBOIFLOYD -3 points-2 points ago

wow...dick...

[–]DangerousFat 0 points1 point ago

We have them in Florida. People often call them Banana Spiders, but they're wrong, Banana Spiders are the same as Brazilian Wandering spiders and they're more like tarantulas... also... their bites can cause permanent erectile dysfunction... YAY!

[–]bnpixie1990 0 points1 point ago

They also have orb weavers in the South. Not the same species but just as big.

As far as I know they are supposed to be docile enough to hold and require a lot of provocation to bite.

That's enough for me not to want to ever hold one. It's not like you can ask the spider their mood.

[–]Spongyrocks 0 points1 point ago

'STRALIA!! Fuck yeah!

[–]Jmeinel 0 points1 point ago

Start evacuating the continent, bring your koalas, kangaroos, and dingos... We just need to do a quick burn down of the continent then u can come back!

[–]broo84 7 points8 points ago

a spider

[–]4everodd 5 points6 points ago

That is not a normal spider that is a fucking mutated spider that will kill everything in its fucking path. Its scarier than any spider I have ever seen.

[–]AuraStars1798 2 points3 points ago

We need to burn it.

[–]4everodd -1 points0 points ago

Yes. And throw the ashed into the deepest pit on earth

[–]AuraStars1798 -1 points0 points ago

Then fill the pit with gasoline and burn it again.

[–]bodyandsoul 0 points1 point ago

Used to walk into webs of these things as a kid in Australia quite often, they had a habit of stringing them over the footpath. I can confirm that their web would be capable of catching a small bird, when you walk hrough the wbs thy feel like light ishing line, amazingly strong and very flexible. Not poisonous to humans.

[–]correct_spelling 2 points3 points ago

[–]bodyandsoul -1 points0 points ago

Thanks for the help, I had a stroke in April this year, so forgive me for not caring too much about whether my spelling would offend you or not!

[–]osta2501 0 points1 point ago

You do know the difference between poisonous and venomous, right?

[–]bodyandsoul 0 points1 point ago

Indeed, and they are not poisonous, but are venomous (although mildly)

[–]badabingbadabang 8 points9 points ago

I love spiders, but I dont come to WTF to see spiders. Spiders are part of fucking nature, nothing special about them. These spiders are gorgeous creatures and they are harmless to humans.

I'd like to state an honorary "Fuck you" to the downvoters who are going to make this post unviewable soon but this had to be said.

[–]Catalina22 2 points3 points ago

Okay. As a dedicated environmentalist, I understand and accept your premise that these magnificent creatures are part of the grand Circle of Life. However, as a lifelong arachniphobe I have to state, categorically, Nope. Uh-Unh. Not a chance. I wouldn't step on that thing because it would rip off the sole of my shoe, unravel my sock in the twinkling of an eye, and begin devouring me from the heel up. I wouldn't shoot it because if I hit it square in the abdomen, it'd probably shatter into a thousand itty-bitty replicas of itself, all of which would instantly swell to twice normal size and begin to hunt me down like the cowardly dog I am. I'm usually against nuclear weapons but in this case I could live with a small Cruise missile.

[–]Tit-Le-Ist 1 point2 points ago

hey faggot, i upvoted your faggot post

[–]NancyTheGrimm 0 points1 point ago

> ....and they are harmless to humans.

Most of them yes... but besides that. Bullshet.

A spider eating a bird is kind of shocking...at least to me.

[–]Spheno1d 0 points1 point ago

I understand the place spiders have within natural systems. I respect and admire the complexity and brilliance of such an animal. I still said WTF! What I am wondering is how you let peoples reaction to this make you so angry. I don't really think this issue is our problem.

[–]Cougs67 0 points1 point ago

A bird eating spider is 10x more shocking than a tiny orb weaver. Also, what one species of spider does when frightened doesn't always correspond to what a different species will do.

[–]NancyTheGrimm -1 points0 points ago

Firstly i never said "oh this made me say wtf!! Omg i have the jeebies!"

Secondly i never said the banana spider was poisonous or deadly to humans. All i meant by my comment was that you saying spiders are harmless(generalizing it) is bullshit. Please think before replying.

Thanks!

[–]I_RARELY_RAPE_PEOPLE -3 points-2 points ago

I see a huge spider eating a bird, mid flight.

I audibly said "what the fuck."

[–]georgeo 0 points1 point ago

Like the silence of the lambs.

[–]Doctor_Candy 1 point2 points ago

[–]Spongyrocks 0 points1 point ago

[–]Tenora_Dante34 -1 points0 points ago

Why exactly would I fear an image that I've seen here on reddit twice a week for the last 3 years straight?

[–]Revived 1 point2 points ago

You should go outside.

[–]throws_goats 0 points1 point ago

Fear this? ok.

[–]youaresoderpy 0 points1 point ago

DAYYM NATURE, YOU SCARY!

[–]Afa1234 0 points1 point ago

That's why I love living in Alaska, the biggest spider we have is no bigger than a quarter, and no snakes

[–]thunderer18 0 points1 point ago

We should tag things like this with a NOPE tag....just saying

[–]lazybeef 0 points1 point ago

Spiders=down vote and cats=up votes. 'Tis the way of Reddit

r/WTF has seen it many times

[–]Spheno1d 0 points1 point ago

For those who spend a little less time online, this is still new. Don't mess it up for the rest of us. I enjoyed spitting my coffee on my monitor and yelling WTF this morning.
