can I get a lower-res version? Taking too long to load.

Heh. I was limited. Work blocks memegenerator. But upvoted you anyway cause I'm feeling generous.

Edit: for content and typos

It's a strategic location in West Texas, six highways run through it, there is an old air force base and an international airport and a national guard armory.

Thankfully those 6 highways lead to a quick getaway.

Oh sweet baby jesus, how did I not know about this?

[–]The_Texican 2 points3 points ago

I can drive 20 minutes outside of Lubbock, and be somewhere that there isn't a house within 4 miles. There will be one or two cars down the highway every few minutes (not seconds). If I turn off onto one of the county roads, there won't even be the cars.

It's pretty awesome.

If you do that at night, you can see every star in the sky. How the fuck far do you have to drive away from Chicago or Atlanta that the glow doesn't overpower all of them?

The winters are mild. The people are friendly. I like it here.

[–]The_Texican 2 points3 points ago

that aspect, I like about it !

I'm from a smalltown, but its mainly the lack of trees. I like Trees!

Mild winters eh? Maybe relative to the afforementioned Chicago, but the panhandle gets the worst of the winters in Tx. And that wind.....

This is one of the ONLY things I miss about Lubbock.

Having more actual seasons...I miss that. I miss the lack of humidity. DFW is just hot and hotter with a lot of humid.

People in Lubbock stare. A lot.

[–]The_Texican 2 points3 points ago

The Staring thing is part of being a small town. I equate Lubbock to a big small town. When I go home I get stared at... but being from there I stare right back.

[–]NoMoreNicksLeft 2 points3 points ago

I've never seen them staring. Maybe I don't look that freakish.

[–]kelpfei[S] 1 point2 points ago

Maybe you're one of...them!!!!!

LOL

Dallas has humidity?

I used to live about an hour and a half away from Lubbock (Denver City), and being able to see the freaking Milky Way every night was the best thing ever.

Having said that, glad my family (Muslims) gtfo'd shortly after 9/11. While the people of DC were super kind in the months after, Lubbock was a whole 'nother ball game D:

Sad when this happens. I hate stereotypes. There are always extremists in every group.

[–]madsci_2000 2 points3 points ago

Actually he said he THOUGHT it was.

[–]The_Texican 0 points1 point ago

and he was correct!

Lubbock is just fine, but I wouldnt wanna live there. If I was raised in Lubbock I could appreciate living around it. But I wasn't and I have fun when visiting but always like hitting the road outta town.

[–]kelpfei[S] 1 point2 points ago

I WAS raised there and don't appreciate it. I rarely visit and when I do, it's only to see my parents.

[–]rabberdasher 0 points1 point ago

And some good Texmex. And grocery stores with beer in them now!

[–]Eriden 0 points1 point ago

I miss grocery stores with liquor in them....

[–]digger_ex_pat 0 points1 point ago

Oil, captain, they want our oil.

[–]decanter 2 points3 points ago

Just saw this on the news. Close up on a store front window with "hide your kids hide your wife" painted on. The people around probably wondered why I was laughing.

used to visit Lubbock alot a couple of years back to see my brother, I would do speed runs from Fort Worth Texas to Lubbock, my best was 4 hours and 57 minutes...

[–]sunny_person 0 points1 point ago

Got lost. Should have taken a left turn at Albequerque.

I'm hoping this invasion involves zombies.
