Do you even know how awesome this would be? Work your way up from a minor thug-for-hire, teaming up with most of Batman's rogues gallery, narrowly escaping the Bat throughout the story... Escalating into one of Batman's biggest foes...

Maybe taking down each of Batman's cohorts until the final showdown where you either break the Bat, or are taken down yourself?

Maybe be a huge component to the Asylum escape of Joker... Or competing for turf with Two-Face... Maybe even get put in Arkham Asylum yourself only to become part of a bigger plot?

All the while earning more skills to make yourself an even bigger name in the crime world of Gotham.

Maybe have it start with a mission where you're working as one of Penguin's guys robbing the Gugenheim (i think that's the name) Museum, and you are the only one to escape...

Cut to Batman watching a video and pausing on you, but with your face facing away from camera. Bats can't ID you, and thus starts his hunt...

From there you do a mission avoiding police to get back to the Iceberg Lounge, where Penguin fires you for being "incompetent."

You team with Two-Face to get rid of Penguin from "your turf," getting your name out as the "New Guy" causing a turf war when half of Two-Face's guys start following you instead.

Following a huge fallout in which you escape but Two-Face gets busted by Nightwing, Nightwing gives info on you to Batman...

Batman interrogates Two-Face who gladly gives you up, but Bane catches on and helps you, in exchange for luring Batman into a trap where Bane "breaks" him.

In the fallout, you get put in Arkham after being caught by Nightwing and Batgirl. But this was all part of the plan to get you in and break Two-Face out... But it is STILL a true double-cross, as Two-Face leaves you behind when he escapes.

All through this, you're running side missions for Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, who are bettering their own goals but are teaching you valuable skills until you're locked away.

In Arkham, you fight Zsasz as he believes you're a menace to his cause. In the scuffle, the Red Hood breaks you, Zsasz, Hush, and Deadshot out proposing a war with Two-Face now that Batman is out of commission.

Hush tells Hood no, and asks you to come with him, saying that Hood is sill Batman's crony. have a choice to team with either... missions with either Hood and Talia Al Ghul, or Hush and Catwoman... But both angles end when Hush or Hood remove their mask to reveal that they were actually the Joker (the other then ridicules you for your stupidity and leads to a big shootout that gets interrupted by Bane).

The "big three" (Bane, Joker and Hush or Hood) then start vying for your help as apparently Batman has returned. As you build up an army on your own, the "big three" are shown in the news as being taken down themselves... By Batman and his team.

Catwoman or Talia turns on you during this time, stating that it was fun while it lasted, but going up against Batman on your own is insane.

This leads to a final countdown... Where one by one your character takes out Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and holds commissioner Gordon hostage while holding the city ransom.

Then the epic showdown begins.

It's a great idea and all but since you're developing a story I hope you won't hold it against me if I point out one thing I find illogical in the story

Why would a big shot like Two Face team up with a nobody? Why would Bane go on helping a nobody? Why would Batman care about a nobody? Why would Batman let himself be trapped over a nobody? I think there needs to be some part where you build a name for yourself after Penguin fired you, but before you get to Two Face. Mafia perhaps?

EDIT: Aside from that as the other guys said it - go on and march into Rocksteady and tell them this idea.

Good point. I'd though about that as well and the conclusions I came to were that:

a) Cobblepot has no idea who you are, I very much doubt he hires every guy who comes to work for him. It is more probable that one of his right hand men hired you

b) you have to start from an assumption that your character isn't a complete and utter moron. He was a thug for hire that was hired to do the job, he didn't do it so if he comes back to Cobblepot's guys asking for payment he's gonna get killed. So it's logical he doesn't go back there, but rather moves on with his career.

Penguin tries to kill you, and you have to escape. You weren't incompetent, you just double crossed Penguin and kept whatever he sent you to steal. This is why Two Face lets you into his gang, and bc he can use your inside knowledge of Penguin's gang to bring him down. What Twoface doens't realize is that you are also using him, setting him up so he takes the fall and is arrested by the police/Batman. You escape and are now in charge of both of their gangs. Batman comes after you but you now have the power and money to hire Bain, who takes out Batman. The Bat kids come after you and finally take you out, putting you in Arkham where you have to team up with the Joker to escape all the other pissed off inmates who you double crossed to get in.

You start working for Falcone doing odd jobs until people start getting loyal to you for saving their backs from Batman or others and so you become both sympathetic and have a reason for them to go for you because you have the "people skills" so to speak.

You had an in with Penguin, who knows what you knew about the inner workings... Two-face was a lawyer, he'd be sure to use an in.

As for Bane... If you gained enough influence to take over half of Two-face's army, I'm sure he'd be interest.

You'd need to raise shitloads of money because of ca$h it would take to acquire rights to use the names Batman, Two-Face... Without these names, you can still make the same game, but running away from Batman or running away from Fatman isn't the same thing. The selling point of the game would be it's premise fight the Batman, be the villain, not game mechanics (although some interesting things could be made with it. Think of Arkham Asylum/Arkham City sections where you are Batman and you're slowly picking off enemies one by one. Now imagine the exact same section, only you play as a thug and the goal is to survive). Without the right to use the name Batman, that selling point is gone as is the reason why the idea sounds interesting in the first place.

So a Kickstarted I feel wouldn't work. What MrKain needs to do is to pitch an idea to Rocksteady or someone else who has enough $$$ to get it made.

Don't forget, even without the super-villians, Batman always had Gotham's various crime syndicates and mobster families to deal with. You could definitely fall in with one of these and work your way up from a lowly thug before joining with a super.

Edit: as elbenji said in another comment, you could start working odd jobs for Falcone, for example.

I'd prefer Nolan-verse, though I feel a more cartoon-y game would work just as well, and definitely allow for a lot more freedom with the story.

I think the Arkham games-verse is the best. I like it because it takes a lot from the Nolan-verse (i.e. two face's look/realism in a comic world) while keeping it true to the comics with the supernatural vilians (i.e. Poison Ivy controlling plants with her mind and ra's al ghul and the lazarus pit).

I imagine pissing on Gotham PD, but being terrified when the bat is on you at the "5 star/bat" level. Some ominous postprocessing and a little bit of gloom music.

Think Slender Game, except you get to work your ass off to escape each time he is coming at you. Way better than military, FIB or NOOSE

COOL IDEA MAN!

for expansion pack: right after the showdown, there was major earthquake in gotham.. you got hurt and unconscious for weeks (taken care by insert your allies here)

you wakes up: batman went missing.. all city in ruin, and realizes that you no longer control the city. the city was divided by territories: two-face controles the business district, poison ivy the central park equivalent, huntress on the north, GCPD controls downtown, penguin has the rich district , ventriloquist the poor district.. etc etc.. (you know, following the story from No Man's Land)

you got new map, new (ruined) city: broken bridges,big cracks on the roads, fallen towers.. ps: you need to hi-jack oracle network to have communication/ satelite maps. and you got new mission: to gain control the whole gotham, again

    This would make such an amazing game; the idea being the underbelly of Gotham city and rising up the ranks from petty thug to criminal mastermind is incredible.

    I can actually see a branching system as to what time of criminal you could be. Each branch having separate goals from the other.

    1. You could become a complete psychopath with no regard for human life and people will fear you and your unpredictability.

    2. You could rise up in organized crime (Maroni Crime Family, Falcone Crime Family, etc) and eventually become the mob boss with countless manpower at your disposal but you also have many enemies who would grab at your power.

    3. You could become a hired gun, (think Deadshot)) working for a wide variety of organizations, becoming a valuable asset in the criminal underworld.

    4. You are a terrorist (possibly League of Shadows) who wants nothing more than for Gotham city to fall; causing a cataclysm which divides the people of Gotham city as well as the city itself and ultimately bringing the city to ruin.

    Political and authority figures can be bribed, gangs can be recruited, and people can be manipulated.

    The only true threat you have late in the game is The Batman. He can be the only one to thwart your final goals. Each branch will have different views and confrontations with Batman and his allies.

    Depending on the severity of your crimes and how powerful you become, Batman will either become adamant to taking you down or he will simply leave you to the police.

    The idea of always having to watch your back for The Batman would make a great gameplay mechanic.

    I don't play GTA games, but hoo boy would this be an exception! I love Batman, but getting to be your own villain would be fantastic! The only thing that I would want, though, is the option of character creation, which is not a GTA thing. But if I'm going to be a DC villain, I want to decide my own face, my own identity, and (after working up the ranks) my own costume.

    The Batman universe is a great one. Who doesn't want to be a part of it?

            When I first heard about Arkham City, I actually thought it was going to be a free roam Gotham City game, more along the lines of GTA (without the carjacking and whatnot of course). I thought the Arkham name in the title was just to keep it in the same series as Arkham Asylum.

            I think that was part of my disappointment with the game. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it as much as I did Asylum. But I felt the "city" design was pretty weak. A fully realized Gotham game with the Arkham play mechanics would be fantastic.

                Maybe instead of super-powers the guy could be like an anti-Batman.

                He trains, learns martial arts, develops gadgets, etc. Maybe has Raz. and others teach him some stuff.
