I still would do anything to see Zezima in-game.

[–]Jakbo 55 points56 points ago

I saw him. The entire server was following him, including me. He then walked over a log which required a high agility level and lost 90% of his followers. I was sad.

[–]TheHighestHobo 20 points21 points ago

I WAS THERE, I HAD THE AGILITY LEVEL HAHAHA

[–]adamwhoopass 6 points7 points ago

Hahaha, that's great. I saw him while Falconing once. He talked to me :3

[–]Avelle 7 points8 points ago

I SAW HIM ONCE

[–]Volzear 6 points7 points ago

I've said this before and it feels weird because I don't have any real way to prove it. But Zezima is playing WoW at the moment on the Thrall server (Same as me). He had been in our guild for a while but no one had any idea that he was Zezima, or that he had ever played Runescape. A while back a few of us got bored and went and reactivated our RS accounts and he mentioned that he was Zezima and would deck us out since he has so much gold. And so he did.

He really is an asshat though. Very elitist and snobby to anyone that he doesn't think is as good as him. Heh, we got into a shouting match when we were talking about how much we valued our WoW/RS accounts, I would sell mine for the right price, whereas he was offended by the very idea.

[–]TristanTheViking 11 points12 points ago

Heh, we got into a shouting match when we were talking about how much we valued our WoW/RS accounts, I would sell mine for the right price, whereas he was offended by the very idea.

Dude, he's goddamn Zezima. There's not that much money in the world.

[–]VaguelyCondescending 354 points355 points ago

Looking back, for 5 dollars a month and a game that ran on your damn browser...Runescape offered a whole fucking lot.

I mean off the top of my head by the time I quit they had a desert, a swamp, an elf forest, extensive mines, plaguelands, a vampire colony, a monkey island, a volcano city, troll mountains, an underwater city, viking lands, and a fucking fairy dimension ...and then some.

[–]Verkir 61 points62 points ago

I had a lot of fun playing Runescape game between the ages of 12-15, became a little bastard at 16, and had a lot of fun for a month of two due to critical surgery when I was 18. Now that I look back on it, Runescape was a really fun game in a lot of ways. I could never get into the WoW type games and Runescape used to be way different from them. The quests it offered were pretty cool, the combat was pretty basic but enjoyable, cool monsters, armor, etc, the two things that ruined it for me most though were Jagex, and the community in some ways. When it comes to a point where Jagex was rewriting their rules they made years ago to accept new game implications, well that shit was unacceptable to me. Walking through Varrock seeing a bunch of douchebags doing the whole, hey buddy lets be friends so I can lure you, yeah no. Everywhere I'd look that game had little thieves around every corner. It used to be a game where 13 year didn't have to worry about losing their due to someone trying to lure them on a day to day basis.

[–]Kimbernator 30 points31 points ago

It taught me some lessons in trusting people, or perhaps more accurately, not trusting people. I learned to avoid people ripping me off and stealing from me while still being very successful.

But yeah, that game was great until Jagex starting changing the entire game with updates. I don't get why they had to make everything have such doofy animations that are too intensive for a browser game.

[–]ChurKirby 5 points6 points ago

Absolutely. Jagex kind of went to shit, and, the community was always shit. But despite it's flaws, the game was really great, and I've never got such enjoyment or managed to keep such an interest in any game of it's type since. It had so many fundamental features which I loved and came to expect of all other MMORPG type games, but which never delivered - i.e. the skill system (seems like almost every other MMO is 90% combat-based, and 'skills' never mean what they did in RS), proper quests, armour tiers, variety of weapons and items. The in-game economy was always fucked. The price of members was always very reasonable to me until they recently raised it.

It's too far gone now though and I won't be playing it again. RIP Runescape 2001-2011

[–]Rixxer 20 points21 points ago

They had damn-near anything you could possibly think of! Gameplay-wise too. Duels, FFA, and group pvp. There were hardcore events, training events, and always something fun on the holidays! Gotta love it.

[–]w0bb 15 points16 points ago

Those quests were superb

[–]MrMastodon 16 points17 points ago

I still remember all that preparation to fight Elvarg all those years ago. Ah memories.

[–]iamaorange 54 points55 points ago

they're supposed to be adding an elf city that should be a new big powerhouse in the game. They have also probably doubled the content you mentioned also.

[–][deleted] 69 points70 points ago

yeah and one day they'll release the dragon kiteshield as well

[–]Inklor 52 points53 points ago

You know I can put a gold trim on that for you.

[–]ArtVandelayInd 4 points5 points ago

Trimming armor for free!!! Trade me!

[–]X_MANBEARPIG_X 21 points22 points ago

Is there even a dragon plate or full helm yet? Quit years ago

[–]EgoBurst 26 points27 points ago

Yes :)

[–]LukaCola 3 points4 points ago

I remember there being a dragon plate given out during a holiday event.

Except it was literally a plate with a dragon on it.

Jagex had a little fun with players.

[–]AlphaPot 14 points15 points ago

They actually did. Along with the Queen Black Dragon

[–]Cheimon 9 points10 points ago

Oh yes. And the vampires have a city now. Which you can infiltrate. Like, not with any humans in it.

[–]Big_Green_Piccolo 6 points7 points ago

That monkey island was BRUTAL.

[–]nitefang 17 points18 points ago

It was fun at one point. Me and my friend recently decided that we would try and play again because we can't think of anything better to play and wanted some nostalgia. It is so fucking bad now. It has been made even easier so that kids will play it more. It is just not good. The only positive thing that came out of our 4 hour play session was that it convinced him to try WoW which I've been telling him to try for years.

[–]Saisino 14 points15 points ago

And wow isn't easy?

[–]hintoa 123 points124 points ago

Selling rare black lobster 50m

[–]TrimHopp 72 points73 points ago

Trimming armor, free.

[–]resdootwo 7 points8 points ago

I fell for that around age 11, best part is is that i gave the guy a full set of addy (t) to turn it into (g)....ever since then ive had a callous heart

[–]Plague735 21 points22 points ago

Free gem cutting.

[–]animi0155 16 points17 points ago

Actually, there were some people who did this legitimately just to get the crafting xp.

[–]Nostalgic_Japanese 11 points12 points ago

I would do this. But I'd trade a cut for an uncut so there was no screwing-over.

[–]Treeko11 47 points48 points ago

Hey look! Jagex blocks your password ********* Pretty neat, hey.

[–]kmchii 41 points42 points ago

hunter2 your hunter2-ing hunter2!

lol i bet that looks funny to you.

[–]Treeko11 31 points32 points ago

[–]DocLovin 6 points7 points ago

Everything I know about online scamming I learned first-hand playing RuneScape.

[–]PrimeMetroid 215 points216 points ago

Reminds me of killing cows for cowhide near lumby and selling at bank for 100gp each.

[–]MushroomClouds 76 points77 points ago

Or killing chickens for feathers and sell those feathers for 5 gp each. Ooh the old times...

[–]Ice_tail 77 points78 points ago

I remember sending new players to go and bring me massive amounts of chicken feathers...and then paying them a quarter of what I got

[–]Ekkosangen 31 points32 points ago

Reminds me of standing in Varrock's east bank, buying rune essence for 20gp each, amassing as much as I could, then selling it in bulk for twice as much. Those were the days...

I actually restarted playing a little bit before free market came back to see if it was as good as I remember, as well as run a little "experiment." I found that 2 coal and 1 iron ore could be bought for less than what you could sell a steel bar for, and that the same was also true of anchovy pizzas (though actually buying the materials was slower, specifically tomatoes and cheese). Earning experience by buying materials and selling the results is unheard of with anything else.

The experiment? See how long it takes to get banned while playing a character almost entirely with freely available bot programs. Results? I got bored of it before I was banned, no joke. I botted practically everything from leveling combat skills on chickens (and picking up the valuable feathers) to smelting steel bar after steel bar. The bots could even navigate and complete the random events, I was surprised at how good some of them were.

[–]Hotrootsoup 4 points5 points ago

The comment you replied to nostalgia'd me, but yours hit harder. I got so into that damn feather business that I think at one point I had people working under me. If I recall, my ratios were buy from 2-4g each, and sell for preferably 7-10 when people were desperate, or 5 at the worst.

[–]bldkis 28 points29 points ago

Scamming people for 1000 for polished buttons...

LAW RUNES 1K

Holy shit, that game taught me to type, that game was so so much man. And then it died.

[–]WWJBTPC 10 points11 points ago

I think 1k laws are just for a quick tele.

[–]tony95640 44 points45 points ago

[–]MalHeartsNutmeg 10 points11 points ago

Oh, you mean Inflation-scape? It got to the point where coins where as worthless as a Zimbabwe dollar.

[–]Wolfgang1234 256 points257 points ago

I miss old Runescape.

[–]ExdigguserPies 66 points67 points ago

I remember selling my party hat for real money on ebay. It changed me.

[–]ChrisColumbus 19 points20 points ago

Are they still like the most rare item to ever exist online?

[–]lobster_dicks 23 points24 points ago

I don't think they're all that rare, but they're a shit-motherfucking-ton of money now. I think because of the increase in prices, people don't wear them out as much, plus the accounts that own(ed) them are the older generation and don't play anymore. So to see them around is a rare sight, even though the items aren't that rare.

[–]colonel_chapstick 13 points14 points ago

how the hell does the runescape economy work? Like with the item pricing, does Jagex decide when to raise or lower prices, or is it done automatically based on supply/demand?

[–]benper 25 points26 points ago

Supply and demand.

If the average person is selling under mid, the mid will move down, and visa versa.

[–]XyploatKyrt 34 points35 points ago

visa versa

twitch

[–]benper 4 points5 points ago

oops, my bad!

vice versa*

[–]Voozi 9 points10 points ago

No, i think red party hats sell for around $1500, im not 100% sure but this was the price a while ago that they used to go for.

The Christmas Cracker item that the hat came from sells for even more rare and some people will even meet face to face to do the deal for cash.

I am pretty sure there is a hat that sell on team fortress 2 for a similar amount also.

[–]WrathTheSummer 20 points21 points ago

I remember someone dying with a party hat on because they lagged out. I grabbed all their possessions (removing my expensive food items to do so) and waited until they came back so I could give them back the party hat and other things. I think this was before Runescape went 'proper' 3D.

[–]ChurKirby 8 points9 points ago

You are a true gentleman. You probably left your legacy. That guy will never forget the kindness of one stranger, the philanthropic, generous player who he had never even met, who went out of his way to help him, for no personal gain and without any hidden agenda. It changed him, made him think, made him a better person for it.
And he has you to thank.

...Although I half expect that the reality was "lol thx, gf nub" (before teleing out of there)

[–]drylube 163 points164 points ago

[–]edthezed 19 points20 points ago

I got one probably once a year just to feel a little first hand nostalgia. Recently though my login and password didn't work and I know I didn't forget them. So ends that.

[–]Snappy374 16 points17 points ago

You probably got hacked..I know I have several times..

[–]Datastream 12 points13 points ago

Same for me. I asked to get the account back and they denied the request even though I am sure I told them everything I knew.

[–]oblivinite 25 points26 points ago

Well you're in luck! There's a copy of runescape in 2006 being made and in a week it will be entering alpha, meaning anyone can join up and play without having to donate. (Although I would recommend donating)

[–]_MikeRotch_ 3 points4 points ago

That thing is no more than a private scape server. I donated 10$ to play and quit after 5 minutes. You can't do quests, you can't do castle wars, there's no agility, and not too many other players. A lot of improvement needed.

[–]undefeatablex 104 points105 points ago

That login screen. Omg. I remember how much i envied members

[–]destinyrocks 48 points49 points ago

I know right, they were given sound effects. SOUND EFFECTS!

[–]Ekkosangen 22 points23 points ago

Not to mention you got WAY more stuff opened up for you to do. Tons of great quests, fun minigames, and every update was something new to do!

[–]bldkis 60 points61 points ago

MUTHA FUCKIN CASTLE WARS!

As well as Pest Control. Holy shit this game, god, I don't even know how much time I spent in it.

[–]MyJustMeHere 37 points38 points ago

As a member, Castle Wars was the shit. Dear god.

[–]alcakd 21 points22 points ago

Bro, bro. You look pretty strong. Come over here. OH WAIT LOL BARRICADE. Explosives on the rocks.

LOLOL.

[–]ConfusionOfTheMind 14 points15 points ago

Fuck. Castle wars, you just had to go and bring that back into my mind. God dammit, I really want to go play right now....

[–]STLReddit 24 points25 points ago

Don't. Keep the good memories. All that's left is a desolate shit hole with the sole purpose of milking the cow for all its worth.

[–]bluereaper75 65 points66 points ago

I remember the first time I got scammed when I first started waaaaay back in 7th grade...

damn you soulkiller37... i will find you...

[–]funyordietryin 27 points28 points ago

Strange how you seem to remember their username. I to remember the name of the person that scammed me....

JCPIANOKID I WILL FIND YOU AND KILL YOU!!!!

[–]JollyOldBogan 13 points14 points ago

I was scammed by some guy called mcm13.

I will remember his name until the day I die.

[–]_chao_ 20 points21 points ago

mcm13 scammed me too!!! I remember filing a report to Jagex immediately afterwards and they did absolutely nothing. I lost a few mil, and as a noob that was worth a lot to me.

[–]bluereaper75 7 points8 points ago

yeah it was a pretty unique username

[–]swae 14 points15 points ago

first time i was scammed, it was my first night of members and i was playing some castle wars.

then a guy offered to trim my armor for me.

[–]GodlikeRoy 170 points171 points ago

More like this

[–]hostergaard 110 points111 points ago

Ah, now there is nostalgia. Now, most of you who have used this screen consider this; your runescape account is likely older than most people currently playing the game.

I feel old.

[–]Zizhou 35 points36 points ago

Oh god. That's really disheartening.

[–]littlefuckface 51 points52 points ago

WHAT THE FUCK MAN

[–]Broseidons_Brocean 7 points8 points ago

this is when i started playing, haha. only 5 servers then :o

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points ago

I hated when they introduced the paid world. At first the game was fun, when they added new missions for the free world, then they stopped doing that and only updated the paid world. After a while I stopped playing...

Fun thing, I just had to listen to Manu Chao - Me Gustas Tu. I played all the time while playing runescape...

[–]gkx 47 points48 points ago

In retrospect, Runescape was actually hysterically cheap. $5 a month for hours of entertainment, but it seemed impossibly steep to eight year old me.

[–]paladoris 3 points4 points ago

Ahhh yes. So many server switches. So many hours clicking rocks. Good times.

[–]DrXenu 8 points9 points ago

dont forget about clicking your pickaxe and THEN clicking the rock.... for every fucking swing..... god damnit that game was so much shit when it first started.

[–]tiderise 78 points79 points ago

I miss the nonsensical leveling of skills. It was nice to play an mmo where I could mine and craft stuff all day.

[–]ECrownofFire 135 points136 points ago

Mine and craft stuff?

Hmm...

[–]Wise2304 116 points117 points ago

Maybe he should try Terraria?

[–]lxm 46 points47 points ago

Apparently theres a game similar to this but in 3D.

[–]Wise2304 49 points50 points ago

Really?

...Now who the fuck would want to play that!?

[–]Felekin 46 points47 points ago

Seriously, that sounds horrible. Just go play lego.

[–]Brenmains 21 points22 points ago

Alone. By ourselves....

[–]mcartz33 9 points10 points ago

in a game...

[–]Scorpion8754 5 points6 points ago

Fortresscraft?

[–]Syclops 19 points20 points ago

YES! I love fighting in video games but I loved the fact that I could just fish all fucking day on Runescape while I listened to music and did homework or something. I love games where I can become like a master of a trade.

[–]thejanxy 30 points31 points ago

THIS GAME WAS MY LIFE AND I HAVE NO REGRETS

[–]Jackamatack 30 points31 points ago

Head blows up from Nostalgia bomb

[–]NathMan 4 points5 points ago

That was 2005? Damn my old account is older than I thought.

[–]Joosebawkz 6 points7 points ago

What are these feelings I'm feeling?

I have the urge to just, mine all day.

[–]WizzWargasm 5 points6 points ago

oh my god I'm about to shed a tear

[–]bodaciousbilly 5 points6 points ago

This is still the "new" music to me.

[–]XbanditX 44 points45 points ago

honestly no game i've played since has given me the sheer joy addictiveness this game did.

[–]zap12341 3 points4 points ago

yep spent 3+ years on it

[–]HankHillWearingACape 18 points19 points ago

How do I wear goblin mail?

[–]Voxwork 38 points39 points ago

I remember the time when me and my friends would call it Run Escape. Good times good times.

[–]imperfect5th 18 points19 points ago

thats how my friend's mom introduced it to us. "Oh betty's kids are playing some game called run escape, you guys should check it out!"

[–]Jackamatack 16 points17 points ago

My mom freaked out because it had beer...

[–]MrMastodon 9 points10 points ago

Not only that, it had a pub crawl across the world. I remember doing that one.

[–]Kirkreng 1 point2 points ago

When I did that I was kind of baffled by the amount of pubs there were in RuneScape.

[–]Brenmains 19 points20 points ago

Your mum ENCOURAGED use of the internet?

...you have a cool mum

[–]Asassinsneed 36 points37 points ago

While everyone was busy with gathering gold and experience, I was chatting with girls on Runescape. I had one serious "girlfriend" and we got married by trading gold rings :3

Her name was Amygirl or something like that. Then she thought I "cheated" and left me. If you're out there Amygirl, fuck you!

[–]JollyOldBogan 36 points37 points ago

I met a girl doing the same thing. Ended up getting pretty serious through MSN chat (There's another nostaglia. MSN), she was really cool.

She got fucking hot, recently. Been too scared to add her on Facebook.

"HEY, remember me? We played Runescape together.... I'm gonna go... i love you...

[–]Kaingon 11 points12 points ago

I demand a follow-up! Worst that can happen is her not adding you.

[–]JustAnotherSimian 14 points15 points ago

"or something"

Still cries about it every night. Runescape marriages are serious shit, man!

[–]moose_man 4 points5 points ago

So YOU were Amygirl's secret lover! You bastard! I challenge you to a duel!

[–]BowlcutGandhi 33 points34 points ago

Every time i see an old screenshot of Runescape I have to go back and play it out of curiousity. Damn you...

[–]Ewoedo 30 points31 points ago

I don't like the new one though.. It just doesn't feel the same.

[–]BowlcutGandhi 16 points17 points ago

Same here. Which is why I don't last very long every time I go back to it, lol... It's a shame that what once was an awesome game is now no where near what it use to be. The fact that all of my old online friends don't play anymore also kind of discourages me too..

[–]impgod999 12 points13 points ago

Yeah, you'd think that you'd be able to make new friends like the last time, but it just isn't the same.

[–]DonkeyManda 15 points16 points ago

Signing up for this game at a friends house, and I couldn't think of a name, so I just chose a random animal, which was a donkey, and threw man on the end. Naturally, Donkey_Man was taken, so I just told my friend to mash the keyboard, he happened to hit 'da', and thus, I was born... That was probably about 8 years ago now, christ, for an 18 year old I have never felt so old...

[–]Wingly 3 points4 points ago

My Reddit Username is also my original Runscape username...wingly. Which was also my Neopets username, and almost every website I've ever made an account on.

[–]KristenWave 39 points40 points ago

It's not so much Old Runescape that I miss. It's getting on and everything is new to me and I get completely lost and end up getting killed by the jail guards in draynor manor. Current prices dont bother me to much because I was lucky enough to make a decent amount before the runescape economy became merch/botscape.

[–]Leel17 23 points24 points ago

That reminds me, my little sister started playing Runescape recently and when I showed her how to get to Draynor Village the guards didn't attack her. She was a level 10 and they weren't aggressive. I remember losing my mithril mace because of those mother fuckers and now they noob-proofed it. That was a sad moment.

[–]JestersDoor 6 points7 points ago

The game doesn't look fun at all for noobs anymore. You have to get lost and killed multiple times to be a true RS player... However most noobs are probably going straight into dicing now.

[–]cayennepepper 2 points3 points ago

That is why i think RS started to go to the shit after the lumbridge home teleport update. Instead of exploring and dealing with what happened, you could always safely teleport back to a familiar place in the sight of any danger.

[–]Unearthed365 2 points3 points ago

I was more pissed off that they removed the highwayman that lurked at the crossroads between Draynor Village and the Manor.

[–]Halfeatenlasagne 16 points17 points ago

All hail Zezima!

[–]PickyConnor 12 points13 points ago

So much nostalgia but jesus this login screen was garbage, if I recall you couldn't use tab to drop down to the password box you had to use your mouse which frustrated me endlessly.

[–]Cheimon 9 points10 points ago

You just had to press enter.

[–]EXCEPTIONAL_SCOTSMAN 4 points5 points ago

All you had to do was hit enter.

[–]Hutch88 21 points22 points ago

[–]thederpmeister 20 points21 points ago

I remember when I made my first mil. Buying law runes (I think) from the mage store outside Fally until I had 1k of them then selling it them for double the price. Good times. I learned a lot about doing work to save up and then buy things. I proceeded to buy the gold trimmed black armor for the lolz. Good times.

[–]gkx 13 points14 points ago

There's a surprising amount that curious people of all ages can learn from Runescape, or at least could from back when I played.

[–]nrusby 19 points20 points ago

be 10 have runescape, 3 friends have runescape, always mine and smelt, friends have different professions, one day try to fish, friend boycotts me on playground for taking profession, thatfeel.jpg

Hey man, want to learn how to dupe items? Here, come in this obscure building, drop it on the floor, and press Alt + F4. Lemme start.

[–]Ewoedo 11 points12 points ago

Oh, this forest here. Follow me, the higher the number at the bottom the more money you make.

[–]Thejok3r 15 points16 points ago

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points ago

That's just horrible!

[–]IWasMe 5 points6 points ago

The first thing is ... I don't know, I'm still playing and I've never seen that screen before. Character creation perhaps? Definitely not the login screen.

This is the login screen.

Does it look better/worse than the old one? It depends on your tastes and whether or not you wear nostalgia-goggles. for me it's pretty much the same: I'm not a big fan of neither. The only thing I do miss is scape original theme. I'm just sick of this dungeoneering one.

[–]Sharradan 4 points5 points ago

It's not working for me, how the hell do I get to play? When I click "Play 06scape (Existing User)" after creating an account, it just takes me to a donation page.

[–]Daroo425 9 points10 points ago

at the moment it's in the 'pre-alpha' stage so you have to donate $2 to play. by the end of september it should be free for everyone.

[–]wendellwins 6 points7 points ago

6 billion hours of game play...then I found WoW.

[–]SecretSaints 7 points8 points ago

That was when RS was worth playing.

[–]sailatlas 11 points12 points ago

[–]creedofexperts 9 points10 points ago

I hate you. I was under reddit all and didn't realize I was about to get hit by this giant nostalgia train.

[–]blakep 4 points5 points ago

Stop ! The nostalgia.. Oh god, i'm hearing the background music..

[–]mPlattenum 4 points5 points ago

… After listening to the old log-in music after seeing this, there was so much nostalgia. I loved Runescape.

[–]biskits1 3 points4 points ago

That Al Kharid theme is like cemented into my brain :D

[–]Nihilithik 12 points13 points ago

wait..thats the original login screen? Didnt that login screen come way after? I played runescape in 2001...so

[–]unique-ishusername 6 points7 points ago

Feels old man :(

That login screen marks the new runescape for me, and I quit shortly after. It just wasn't the same. I want my pixelated beard back!

[–]burningbeast55 6 points7 points ago

Aw I miss this game, especially the old version.

[–]Jessassin 7 points8 points ago

If they ever release a third version of runescape, I will probably pick it up again... until then, too many memories of staying up all night killing cows for cowhides, and selling them for 100gp/ea...

[–]funyordietryin 27 points28 points ago

I was banned from Runescape a long time ago...... It all started when my brother showed me his pure, it was amazing to watch him kill people in 2 attacks with these mysterious weapons called "Dragon Claws". I vowed that from that day forward I would do anything to obtain those powerful weapons. So from that day I started with my planning, how I would acquire them and how I would set about funding my crusade.

I took the only job I knew at the time, picking flax, as my way to become rich and powerful. Everyday from 3:30pm-10:00pm I would pick flax on my lowly level 3 member whom I had named Drag Clawz FTW. After spending one whole day of picking flax the next afternoon I took to spinning that flax into bowstring which would increase my profits by 200gp! Then it dawned on me....I was only making a meager 600k a day, which would mean it would take me nearly 2 months to get my planned 44m.

I was devastated, I could not wait that long to kill people! My blood lust was insatiable after seeing my brothers godly prowess with the claws. I watched him again and again fell opponents one after another, whenever his special power was at 100% a kill was sure to follow. I searched the forums and the world of Runescape for quicker ways to make money, but all I could find were people telling me to "Level up noob! theres no way a level 3 can get drag clawz anyway LULULULUL." I was heartbroken, all my attempts at obtaining these magnificent claws were but null. It was the third day of searching for a better alternative to funding my quest when I stumbled upon something in a google search.....There in front of my very eyes was the answer to my quest! for a mere $10 I could obtain a bot that would pick flax, toads or anything I could think of for me while I would not have to do anything but reap the profits! I begged my parents for this one gift for me and eventually they gave in!

I now had an ends to my problems, with this bot I would make a new account and simply train it to be the best pker the world of runescape had ever known! The following afternoon as I scurried off the bus and into my abode I quickly fired up my computer and set my bot and new character named "Imnotabotomg" to picking flax, toads and then spinning the flax into motion. While on another window I trained religiously on my pure. Day in and day out I trained him to a beaten shell of a pixeled man. I spent hours upon hours at the pest control beating wave after wave after wave of mindless bugs trying to kill our beloved priest. For my hard work and many days of tribulation I was rewarded with countless points that I spent to get my nooby strength from a meager 30 all the way to NINETY!!. There before my very eyes was the god I had imagined, his combat was a lowly 59 but that hid his true and immortal power of a strength level of 90 with only 60 hp and 60 attack. All the while I had been training my mindless slave had netted me over 60 million gold worth of bowstring and toads. I spent a mere 10 minutes selling them and drooling over my new found gold pile.

That very same day I bought my dragon claws for 40m, a fury for 15m and traded them over to my god of a pure. Shaking with anticipation and anxiety I equppied them and immediately my heart skipped a beat. Weeks of painful training and plotting had finally come to fruition. I quickly geared up and traveled to the scum filled edgeville and scouted for my target from the hillside. There a few yards away was my first kill, he was a unexpecting ranger from the west, his eyes were full of adventure and his bow was no joke. I watched in amazement as this unknowing prey destroyed people with his dark bow of power. Hurriedly I potted up and used the trick my brother had shown me, while dancing a jig and scouting thru a telescope my god of a pure teleported to his location and struck with the ferocity of a dragon truly gone mad!

All the poor sap could manage to say was "WTF" when he was felled before my claws. I quickly looted his dark bow and his fury and I ran to safety. Finally! my dream had come true! I was now the beast of the wilderness and the low scum of edgeville feared my name! After a few hours of killing unsuspecting players I finally logged off for the night. Giddy with joy, the next afternoon I sprinted off the bus and ran to my room to again be a god amongst men for another 6 hours.

I couldn't log in.......I tried and tried and tried but it kept saying my account was suspended and I needed to check my inbox for further information, I was shocked! What had I done? Clearly I hadn't broken any rules on my god!? But there in my inbox was the message that shattered my childhood, for botting and transferring the funds to my pure, I had unknowingly broken a rule and my pure was permanently banned forever.....

Fuck you jagex for ruining my hard work!

[–]zanzou 12 points13 points ago

Well, that was a fun read... though the last is pretty silly, unless you're being sarcastic. Not so much your hard work as half hard work levelling / half $10 botting a bunch of gold.

Never played Runescape...kinda fun reading stories about games I've never played.

[–]madmelonxtra 2 points3 points ago

I remember when I used to play they had a mining glitch that I use to exploit all day long. They've patched it since then. Those were the days...

[–]Dystonym 3 points4 points ago

sellin lobbies 300gp ea @@@@@

[–]theOptimusPrimeRib 4 points5 points ago

Hey man that new rune armor is nice...but uhhh you know what would make it better? If you let me trim it for you. Heck since you've been so nice, I'll do it for free!

[–]Breokz 3 points4 points ago

I remember looking up to Zezima and n0valife...

[–]Idk_Matt 3 points4 points ago

Is it bad that i can sit here and draw a 100% accurate map in my head.. All these years laters and i can safely say this game got me deep into gaming.

[–]Afrodaddy 6 points7 points ago

Runescape story time:

Back when we were all extremely into this, and by that i mean last weekend, we all convinced a friend that there was a store deeeep within the wilderness. But it was legit, you could buy things for super cheap and sell things for insane amounts. So naturally he should bring all of his very valuable items. After school one kid led him there. Everyone jumps him. Loots all of his shit. He quits runescape forever. I'm sorry Rob.

[–]Koalburne 5 points6 points ago

Ahh, I remember my first Million gp and a set of rune armor: I was level 3, I did not know what the hell I was doing....I walked right into the wilderness where some level 65 idiot was fighting a dragon, when all of a sudden...skeletons. he died, I looted him, Then I sold the armor....like a idiot

[–]JustAnotherSimian 2 points3 points ago

"Oh yeah man I'll show you this awesome place to loot, you have to go a little bit into the wildy, but it is worth it and I'll have your back", 2 minutes in and I kill them and take their items.

Or the 'I'm with jagex, we have to put a white box on your account to monitor your language use. We got complaints that You've been swearing too much. " If they buy into it, you tell them they need to give their password so you can install it. Many laughs were had.

Man I was such a little bastard. Good times with this game. Good times.

[–]Simplesi88 2 points3 points ago

I remember playing this such a long time ago back when it was "2D/3D" .. 2D sprites moving with 3D trees and land and paper thin walls. PK-ing in the Wildy giving people a "1 way ticket to lumby!" haha. Nostalgia

[–]RetroHipster 2 points3 points ago

Run! Escape!

[–]teeee 2 points3 points ago

Did anyone else ever harvest yew trees as there gold mine? My brother and i used to take turns trading it to one another and taking it back to the bank. Good times.

[–]RC_Matthias 2 points3 points ago

I remember the freaking sheer excitement all over school because "a new login screen" and "new 3D graphics" were coming to Runescape. Anyone got a pic of the screen BEFORE this one? Because this was the updated one, damn. Need some harder nostalgia!

[–]strawberris 2 points3 points ago

I really miss the 8 bit olden day style. Only rare thing i have sitting in my old account is santa hat and im darn proud of it.

[–]infinitavaga 2 points3 points ago

When I was a kid, my older brother and I got into a fight over an Adam breastplate, and my parents cancelled all of our memberships (there were four of us playing) and we were never allowed on again.

Also, when I was about 10, I was playing with my older brother over my shoulder, and this random guy (he had "fire" in his name, I remember that) came up and asked me to be his girlfriend. Aforementioned elder brother leapt in and typed "yes" before I could do anything and that kids is how I met your father.

Actually I ran away and never saw him again.

[–]loopiezlol 2 points3 points ago

The song was just epic. Nevertheless, this game killed my time as a child. Got bored when I just had to farm 3 days like hell to get those required skills for some uber quests. oh quest cape.. I was so close :(. Oh the nostalgy

[–]pizzandwhiskey 2 points3 points ago

This... this was my life... for four years.

I weep.

[–]zamorakian 0 points1 point ago

I just started playing again after stopping three years ago. It's a whole new game.

[–]kidmerkury 2 points3 points ago

Drop party follow me

[–]CapHindsight 2 points3 points ago

Has anyone in the UK seen the ridiculous advert they have for this on tv? It's all cg and they make it seem like the coolest game ever. Makes me laugh every time I see it.

[–]JollyOldBogan 2 points3 points ago

God damn, I haven't played this in years. So much memory.

I remember the first time I ever logged on when I was 11, and the first thing I read was "Selling pot 20gp". I thought he was selling marijuana online, so I got scared and quit. Didn't go back for 8 months.

My first drop party was the best. Level 48, one guy had about 60 people in a single room. Dropped 483k, Saradomin and Zara full sets, notes of rune essence of about 200k, a bulk load of other things too. I picked up the money and full sets. I couldn't believe myself, I felt like I was practically King of Runescape then.

I remember my first wilderness outing on a PK special character I made with some friends. One of us was Archery, another Mage, one was Strength and I was Defense. (Sounds silly, but I was level 19 in full Rune, could take hits like a motherfucker.) Then we got mobbed by a PK guild of about 20.

One of my last wilderness (or "wildy runs") expeditions saw me get a blue phat and 3 santas. Some guy who thought he was cool out in level 40 wilderness (where anybody can attack any level) walked past me. I scimmied that bitch good. Begged me for three weeks to give his stuff back, ended up caving in and giving him back a santa.

I was never a member. Such a shame, I wanted to but my mum was persistent in saying "ITS JUST A SCAM TO GET MY MONEY IM NOT LETTING YOU USE MY CREDIT CARD". Completely devastated as a 13 year old.

God damn, the memories.

[–]SFORSENIOR 2 points3 points ago

Thank you zezima for the rune pl8!

[–]Murrdurrurr 2 points3 points ago

I stopped playing this game around the time they introduced the regulated trade thing, where you had to start making trades of similar value and such. "the grand exchange"?

As far as memories go... One of my original accounts got stolen because I was an idiot. However, I tried to recover it wayyy later and succeeded. Free level 70.

Tried to make a pizza company. Couldn't find employees willing to grab the respawning cheese and tomatoes for next to no pay.

That login screen was also the thing I swapped back to when viewing porn ... And I got caught that one time with it.

I occasionally have the urge to pop back in and check things out. Sadly, I gave away my two good accounts to my friends cousin. He immediately ruined my pure Mage by stabbing some cows, and dropped all of my prized member items.

Go say hi to T Mantag2 for me.

[–]Perry558 2 points3 points ago

When i first started playing this game, i made a friend with a girl named Emilyk. We walked around Lumbridge together, and she taught me how to make bread. At the end of the afternoon we added eachother to our friend lists and went or separate ways. I played runescape on and off for a few years after that day. I never saw her online again.

[–]AnonDomini 2 points3 points ago

OH GOD. CABBAGE, CABBAGE EVERYWHERE.
