Yes, it's called "gameplay".

It's a fancy term for when game makers make things non-realistic because reality is not always fun or cool. It's kinda shitty, and gamers generally don't feel like playing things that are shitty.

I like what americas army 3 did, you had 4 options and depending on the wound you choose one. It's real quick if you know what you're doing and adds a little skill to revives. Although even this wouldn't be good in battlefield as you would never get revived because people are too lazy or selfish to zap you back to life in 2 seconds and would sure as he'll not spend 6 seconds with this method.

Yeah, Battlefield is not meant to be a military simulator. It's a modern military arcade-style shooter. Sure, the ballistics/vehicles/weapons/destruction/suppression etc. might all be there to make things more realistic, but they're not doing realism for realism's sake, they're doing it up to the point where it starts getting in the way of fun.

Yeah, it would be extremely beneficial to a shooter to include a sophisticated ER simulator in the gameplay. It would be fun to rush some injured soldier back to base, make him a full body scan, prescribe him some meds and leave him on a bed for a week of real time.

Hate when people complaining about a lack of obviously unnecessary realism.

All air vehicles can only take one hit from an RPG/SMAW then they blow up immediately (not including the Transport chopper). If you get hit by two RPG's at the same time in the Transport you will die, even if you're repairing.

1. Dedicates too much realism to lighting and shadows.

Rifle scopes have lens glare AT NIGHT.

2. Infantry only carry two grenades.

Tanks carry unlimited shells.

3. OP Metro. Potentially awesome outdoor urban battleground.

Goes underground and turns into RPG clusterfuck.

  1. Artificial light sources are still present at night. But whether it's realistic or not is irrelevant. It's done for balance, so snipers don't have too much of an advantage on night maps.
  2. Again, this is all about balance. It would be ridiculous to drive a tank all the way across a map only to run out of shells after a few shots. And if you utilize ammo packs, you can have unlimited grenades.
  3. There are plenty of other maps that are outdoor urban battlegrounds. Should all the maps be the same? Who cares if Op Metro is a clusterfuck? You don't like it, go play one of the other maps.

You know what logic doesn't make sense to me? Expecting a video game to be realistic.

Red Orchestra: Osfront 41-45. By the way, realism and simulators are fun and I can enjoy a good arcade style shooter like the rest of the kiddies. However, when a series starts out as a nice balance between simulation and arcade then tries to appeal to the general public by removing realism it loses my vote.

The only thing I said was realistic was the lighting, but the fact that rifle scopes look like spotlights is Battlefield Logic. Hence the main subject of this thread. If you don't like the main subject of the thread you can get out.

I don't think you should look for much realism in any game which has you spawn out of thin air. Lens glare is there for a reason, that reason is less realism and more gameplay device to spot far away snipers that would otherwise be invisible. Besides, it's not a spotlight, unless you are thinking of the flashlight.

I was just offering a counter-argument and explaining the reasoning behind the "Battlefield Logic." You don't have to be a dick about it. And you seem to have completely missed the connection between "realism" and "logic." Here's the point I assumed you comprehended - if it's not realistic, it doesn't have to be logical. There are reasons for the way certain aspects of the game are programmed. If they're not logical, who the hell cares?

And I'm free to disagree with the topic of any thread. What, I have to agree in order to comment? Yeah, because that's what everybody on Reddit does.

Indeed, I wish your tank rounds and chopper rockets did what they're supposed to do and tear shit up, except you only got a certain amount and had to go back to basics to resupply. This would make you rockets actually useful without needing 50, but at the same time you need to use them wisely as you have to fall back and resupply if you use them all.
