Golden Retriever puppy and a newborn baby? You're going to hate the next year of your life.

[–]softmod 122 points123 points ago

You train dog, dog train baby. Easy.

[–]Kanye_Westicles 17 points18 points ago

One does not simply "train" a Golden. Easier to train the baby first and have him duke it out with the dog.

[–]Le_Master 28 points29 points ago

Not sure what you are talking about. They are insanely smart and train pretty easily. I've had four goldens in my life (one is lying on my legs as I type this).

[–]Kanye_Westicles 21 points22 points ago

They're high energy, occasionally stubborn, and mischievous, especially when you don't have a whole lot of time to exercise them (read: raising a child).

[–]Michael_J_Foxtrot 9 points10 points ago

Thought you said it was 'laying eggs as I type this'. I was all like 'that's fuckin crazy man'.

I need to sleep.

[–]Swoop643 9 points10 points ago

Kanye_Westicles and Michael_J_Foxtrot having a chat, only on reddit.

[–]forresto 0 points1 point ago

I walked past 3 Goldens being trained as guide dogs in Santa Monica today. They seemed pretty darn well behaved to me.

[–]Warpedme 1 point2 points ago

Most retrievers (labs, etc.) are like this. They are total pain in the asses even with proper exercise and training, until about year two. I don't know what happens in year two but suddenly all the training them clicks and they become pure awesome.

[–]Kanye_Westicles 0 points1 point ago

I completely agree, that has been my experience entirely. Unfortunately I seem to have incurred the hate of the retriever lobby.

[–]drukkentech 6 points7 points ago

I have a golden puppy for you then...I have 2, one is 3 years old and is wonderful, like you describe. The second golden is 7 months now, and hell on paws.

[–]Skeph 0 points1 point ago

16 month old golden/malimute mix, damn it's hard sometimes.

[–]softmod 2 points3 points ago

All i can picture in my head now is Kanye West's testicles trying to convince him it's a good idea to train babies to fight dogs. (because of his username, not because i constantly think of kanye's balls... anymore)

[–]Jaerdo 2 points3 points ago

Goldens are exceptionally easy to train.. They have incredible patience and are eager to please.

[–]Five_deadly_venoms 26 points27 points ago

Falcor in his younger years.

[–]pingthepong 3 points4 points ago

Never give up and good luck will find you.

[–]rhyno8130 1 point2 points ago

Dammit! Dammit dammit dammit! Always too late.

[–]Cerberus73 21 points22 points ago

Deja vu!

Same arguments about the bean bag chair as the last few times it was posted, too...

[–]MTNlogistics 6 points7 points ago

Pictures like this help balance all of the beheading videos I watch.

[–]diamond 0 points1 point ago

Crazy idea, but you could try not watching them.

[–]MTNlogistics 0 points1 point ago

Why would I ever want to do that? O_o

[–]I-Red-It 29 points30 points ago

Hmm... Thats a long arm on that baby. But hey, Im sure OP didnt just pull the sleeve over the pup. OP never lies.

[–]MissHeather13 9 points10 points ago

That was the first thing I saw. Also, newborns mostly sleep with their arms tucked in to their chests. But whatever. Baby + puppy still equals cute. :) Even if it is full of lies!

[–]SatanIsMyCopilot 2 points3 points ago

Stretch Armstrong, The Early Days. Funny, I rememeber him having a daschund...

[–]KeithO 2 points3 points ago

I have a baby about that size. They don't hug yet. They haven't even found their feet yet.

You wasted your time writing retarded shit.

Congrats.

[–]PhilGallow[S] 0 points1 point ago

Ever?

[–]UnholyDemigod 23 points24 points ago

Didn't they like it enough over at /r/aww?

[–]magicaltrevor953 0 points1 point ago

Judging by the totals, nowhere near as much (1500 v 50). Then again its not as much as all the other times its been posted.

[–]gankula 23 points24 points ago

What's sad is that by the time this kid is old enough to properly appreciate the dog, the dog will be dead.

[–]movie_man 9 points10 points ago

I always think that about getting a puppy for a baby to grow old with, because it won't. It's a 15-year long best friend from the moment you're born at best.

Still adorable though.

[–]quantum_spintronic 9 points10 points ago

I had a best friend like that from my 1st year onward, and my computer password still involves his name; I'm 26 years old.

[–]movie_man 0 points1 point ago

Must have been incredibly hard to lose him, does the fact that it was inevitable help at all?

I miss my dog growing up, we put him down when I was about 23. So I had him since a very young age. He was a buddy. But it was bound to happen. It's easier when you get a new dog, though none can replace him.

I still don't have a new dog though, no time!

[–]quantum_spintronic 3 points4 points ago

It was pretty hard when he passed since I also lost my grandfather in the same week. I never really thought that either would die when I was younger, I had always assumed they would be there forever. It was a good life-lesson thinking back on it though; nothing is permanent except for change. I learned to cherish the moments I had with those that I love.

New dogs never really replace, because at least for me, all of my dogs have had very different personalities.

[–]movie_man 0 points1 point ago

So do you think it's a good idea to raise a puppy and baby together, knowing one day your kid will have to go through the same thing you did?

(though without losing a grandparent at the same time hopefully)

[–]quantum_spintronic 4 points5 points ago

We all have to face death inevitably, there is no reason we should shelter our children from something that is intrinsic to life.Yet, it also depends on how responsible you are I suppose. If you're not capable of raising a baby and a puppy at the same time, then you should obviously wait a few years. I guarantee that a 2 year old will not fully appreciate a puppy. A puppy teaches them about friendship, and responsibility, especially if you have them start to feed/care for the animal as they get older. We had a couple dogs growing up, but we lived on a farm, and accidents happen. I think the first dog I vaguely remember was named Boh (after National Bohemian beer), but she died when I was extremely tiny after she got into some anti-freeze in the barn. Overall, I don't see a reason why a child shouldn't have a puppy unless they are allergic, the parent can't care for the puppy, or the puppy is aggressive.

[–]Gogokira 1 point2 points ago

or the puppy is aggressive

This usually comes from the parents not caring for the puppy. Being "mouthy" (biting but without intent to hurt) and being high energy are all part of puppies growing up, this needs to be trained/redirected to get them out of using their human counterparts as toys.

*Editing to say that pets are great life-teaching companions as long as you don't sugar coat things (death) but make them age appropriate and as long as you get the child involved with the care of the pet.

[–]FrigidNorth 0 points1 point ago

I am in the same boat.. her name is also the answer to all my secret questions.

[–]Kanye_Westicles 1 point2 points ago

that's the sweetest thing I've ever heard, I love stories about loving pets, reminds me of mine. What was your dog's name?

[–]FrigidNorth 1 point2 points ago

Nice try ;)

[–]Psuffix 0 points1 point ago

To be fair, 10-15 is a pretty good time to teach kids about the reality of death. Even kids need to be taught how to deal with this. I remember there's even a Sesame Street episode about it.

[–]onionhammer 0 points1 point ago

I grew up with my family dog, I definitely appreciated him. He died when I was about 14 or 15 I believe..

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points ago

Cuteness overload!

[–]CarlFromAccounting 12 points13 points ago

Aww. Cutest repost ever.

[–]Devout 9 points10 points ago

Carl.

I have been watching you.

You do the hivemind proud by commenting on these reposts.

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to save this image. Then remember 14/03/2013 and post the image again when the date occurs.

If your post Karma exceeds the peak of this post you will be permitted advancement.

[–]CarlFromAccounting 6 points7 points ago

[–]epsilonbob 2 points3 points ago

tagged accordingly, I'm hoping you deliver

[–]deltarob 1 point2 points ago

Genuinely confused by the need for people to point out reposts, I've never seen it before. If you have great, do you want a medal (karma) for it?

[–]CarlFromAccounting -2 points-1 points ago

No, it has just become excessive lately. It gets to the point that people are recycling content day after day in an effort to get karma.

[–]deltarob 1 point2 points ago

I understand a week or two, but after that it's pretty much a non issue

[–]CarlFromAccounting 0 points1 point ago

There's a guy going around on various reposts displaying the 9-10 reposts in a week of the same image. Keep surfing and you'll find it.

[–]deltarob 1 point2 points ago

I'll have a look, but I wouldn't let something as banal as seeing an image twice in a week bother you

[–]myhandsarebananas 0 points1 point ago

Why do you assume that? If enough people haven't seen it AND liked it enough to upvote it to this point, isn't is very plausible that OP also didn't see it?

[–]XxGenericNamexX 10 points11 points ago

fuck, op. We have specific subreddits for a reason. Please, for the sakes of your fellow redditors who have unsubscribed from r/aww, post in the appropriate subreddit next time.

[–]bweezy26 3 points4 points ago

Whoa, man.

[–]Paddywhacker 1 point2 points ago

He's right, it's cute, not a good pic, gtf out

[–]Paddywhacker -2 points-1 points ago

Or post this in r/wtf, under a new heading, I dunno; puppy love? Just not pics. Great point

[–]magicaltrevor953 1 point2 points ago

Did someone say Colby?

[–]Mankirks_Mistress 0 points1 point ago

OP is well within the rules to post this. /r/aww would also be appropriate.

[–]draivaden 0 points1 point ago

Please specify why this image is inappropriate for this subreddit.

[–]XxGenericNamexX -1 points0 points ago

Well seeing as it is a picture, it isn't completely out of place in r/pics. But like I said before, we have specific subreddits for a reason. The context of the picture is a cute baby cuddling with a puppy, clearly r/aww material that isn't placed in r/aww. Redditors such as myself have unsubscribed from r/aww to filter these types of posts from our line-up of subreddits, and as a courtesy, other redditors should post in a subreddit specific to the context of their post.

Anyways, that's just my opinion. I guess Im tired of these unnecessary subreddit leaks.

[–]JakJakAttacks 4 points5 points ago

"Alright, there. Now put the baby on top of the puppy. Yeah! Like that! Now put his arm around it like he's hugging it. Perfect!" *snap

[–]klitzkee 8 points9 points ago

As a pregnant woman I have now registered for a puppy.

[–]chris-martin -3 points-2 points ago

"Registered"? You just go and pick one up. There are tons of them abandoned all the time.

[–]klitzkee 14 points15 points ago

....Right...I was making a funny for myself since you have to register for baby showers and list what you need. Not to be taken seriously.

[–]chris-martin 0 points1 point ago

Oh. Heh. I forgot about wedding registry. I thought you were talking about contacting a breeder or something.

[–]Anaract 3 points4 points ago

I wouldn't really trust my newborn child with a dog

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points ago

Warning :I think we all should worry about the Tie-Dye bean bag chair

[–]cats_suck 2 points3 points ago

yikes you're right

[–]SirSnackbox37 1 point2 points ago

that babies arms are so long!

[–]gatzbysgreenlight 0 points1 point ago

and recent studies show that kids are healthier when there is a dog in the house..

[–]VSworld2217 1 point2 points ago

Does that baby have a really long arm?

[–]zerbey 5 points6 points ago

Very cute, please make sure puppy's shots are up to date I'd hate to see the baby get sick. Looks like they'll be best buddies.

[–]Kamfy 3 points4 points ago

colby?

[–]nanonanopico 0 points1 point ago

Ctrl + F "colby" Upvote. My work here is done.

[–]Kamfy -1 points0 points ago

:)

[–]E_Wander 0 points1 point ago

The baby ruined the picture.

[–][deleted] ago

[deleted]

[–]condorius -1 points0 points ago

It's a very big dog, pretty much the size of a female plumed basilisk. And yes, babies and puppies are around 3-4 times smaller than each other.

[–]Hipashia -1 points0 points ago

I'm loving the little baby straight jacket swaddler!

[–]ghostwarrior369 0 points1 point ago

um..what?

[–]Hipashia 0 points1 point ago

A swaddle wraps the baby to mimic the comfy tightness of the womb. The baby's sweater/swaddler has long sleeves, which reminded me of a straight jacket.

[–]ConLogKeifer 0 points1 point ago

This makes me feel like a 3 year-old girl.

[–]carlingford 1 point2 points ago

What are you really,a 35 year old lumberjack?

[–]ConLogKeifer 3 points4 points ago

Something like that.

[–]underwaterbear 0 points1 point ago

Kid will grow up to be a furry, always wanting fur.

[–]buckX 0 points1 point ago

Nah, that dog will probably be dead before the baby becomes a man.

[–]ttufan09 0 points1 point ago

Would the real Reddit please stand up?

[–]Pups_the_Jew 0 points1 point ago

I think I just got diabetes.

[–]hollingsworthless 0 points1 point ago

I'm surprised that there's no comment about the baby humping the dog. Come on Reddit. We've got a standard to uphold here.

[–]StonieJay 0 points1 point ago

Why do I feel like I've seen this many times....

[–]Merrimux 0 points1 point ago

A large part of me expected that this would be a plate of assorted pork products.

[–]Taurenevil 0 points1 point ago

Is that dogs name Colby by any chance?

[–]wwwertdf 1 point2 points ago

Insert joke about sodomy here.

[–]db11496 0 points1 point ago

Note sure if you're claiming this as your own, but this is an old pic that I've seen multiple times

[–]goneshocking 1 point2 points ago

When that dog dies its going to suck for that kid.

[–]slutsusecrutches 0 points1 point ago

Positive ape index...

[–]magus1324 0 points1 point ago

Colbie is that you?

[–]sircumby 0 points1 point ago

You'd never see a cat doing this, just saying.

[–]warowords 0 points1 point ago

That child will be absolutely devastated when that dog dies.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktp-Zsm25dU

[–]MsABQ323 0 points1 point ago

Okay, can I just say that the dog looks better fed than the kid!

[–]Skeph 0 points1 point ago

SO CUTE!!! But not to sound like a downer but, that's gonna be hell for the first couple months. But cherish them nonetheless. You will eventually miss the hellish baby/puppy days. lol

[–]HipsterBlackSheep 0 points1 point ago

Colby?

[–]rish234 0 points1 point ago

d'awwwwwwwwww

[–]AdviCeSC2 -2 points-1 points ago

if only his arm was really hugging the dog... Nice illusion, still downvoted it

[–]oldaccount 10 points11 points ago

Oh! I was about to call Guinness to submit him for the "Baby with the Longest Arms" category.

[–]AdviCeSC2 0 points1 point ago

Truth hurts, thus I was downvoted as well :)

[–]oldaccount 4 points5 points ago

I was upvoted. I guess the truth is OK when phrased as a joke.

[–]kentherbnek -2 points-1 points ago

Poor Cody.

[–]runaway_girl 0 points1 point ago

This tops every single r/aww post that has ever been put out there.

I mean guys it'a baby... and a puppy... sleeping next to each other. HOW CAN THIS GET ANY CUTER?

EDIT: wtf man? just realise this was submitted for r/pics. no wonder it's not getting as many likes as it deserves..

[–]hollingsworthless 0 points1 point ago

And it's a repost.

[–]runaway_girl 0 points1 point ago

really? :( hate those

[–]C8H10N4O2Rush -3 points-2 points ago

How different is this from the other baby with the snake. fucking animals cant be trusted when it comes to babies or very young infants. This is not aww.

[–]altbaby -2 points-1 points ago

THERE ARE NO WORDS.

[–]chewb -1 points0 points ago

I call bad parenting. Come on, people! That dog loses some of its fur/hair and is probably a germpile. I know kids who are around dogs are healthier but in the first two years of the child being born his energies are directed towards growing big and healthy and not fighting off bacteria

He never said only dogs can be. He just said that dog is his best friend from the beginning. And if that's the nickname of dogs themselves, don't try to change it. It's just a nice nickname for dogs.
