Today I went through a 2 hour commute to find out I wasn't needed at work for the day. I turned around and came back home. It rained that morning, so it smelled great out. It was a beautiful day. Birds are cool.

In my day we had to walk three days to get to school. Both ways. And we didn't have none of those fancy shoes neither. No. All we had was socks. Some kids wore bricks strapped to their feet, but only the rich ones - we called them "brickers".

Kids today. Don't know they're born.

In my day, we walked barefoot, uphill, in both directions. On the really nice days the snow was only 4 foot deep. I loved those walks. Best 4 hours you could spend.

I'm with you. In addition I work at the school I go to. I never leave. Still, one of the most gorgeous campuses in the area, right on Lake Ontario.

I hear ya. I went through that for high school. 50 mins of highway and small roads.

On the way sucked because it was early, but was pretty sweet because we have a good talk show at that hour.

On the way back sucked because that talk show isn't on, but was pretty sweet because I was awake and school was out (though sometimes right back into obligation since I worked part-time as a short order cook).

The constant is that a 50 minute daily drive sucks a bit, no matter how you slice it. I can't imagine these people with 2 hour commutes.

My total commute time was about 50 mins. What was terrible was showing up to a canceled class, but I had another class 3 hours later. So should I go home for 10-15 mins or wait around for 3 hours? Ya, those days sucked.

Had a slightly longer commute for a semister.

I learnt to stop giving a fuck, and how to just sleep, on the floor.

The other option, was to just walk into a larger lecture for something you didnt give a shit about, acting like you belonged there, and then just taking a nap in whatever seat was open.

The professors never gave a shit, and if you weren't there from the start, and didnt take a needed seat, they'd just ignore you.

I had 2 hours by bus/train to school. I had could choose which town to get to before getting to the town with my school, so it usually was like:

Bus, train, bus

or

train, bus, bus

If i missed one, it would be an hour waiting time til next (or more).

I had to do a 2 hour commute Mon-Fri during my 1st and 3rd year of uni, on public transport in London. I got back to it at the end of September, for my final year.

The number of times I got stuck under someone's armpit or next to the dude who kept .. well I don't know what they call it .. but it's the sound you make when you bring up phlegm.

And then you got the day off? Please thank the gods or Karma or nobody that you only have 30 mins to travel as opposed to 120

Its an hour commute for me. Last semester we had a 3 hour class at 8am and another 3 hour class at 6pm so I usually would just stay at the school for the multiple hour break since the majority of my time would be spent traveling anyway. On more than one occasion the teacher would send an email after the class should have started saying class was cancelled...

I think what you should learn from the comments is this: don't fucking complain about a 30 min commute. I won't tell you how long mine is cuz no one gives a shit, but half an hour is small-fry. You shoulda gone to the library, had coffee with friends, gotten paper work done or something. Or, you know, post a gif on reddit. That works too.

So thankful I have rarely had a super-long commute. Other than my first year of university where I was clueless and had no idea how the transit system worked... and my first year of community college in a town without a transit system. So there was a lot of walking, which I didn't mind at the time and still wouldn't now.

On the other hand, long bus or car commutes put me the fuck to sleep. Ugh.

So, here I was, Fort lewis Washington. Rather, I was in Federal way, 23 miles away, stationed in Fort Lewis. It snows about 3 inches the night before. Being a coloradan, that's nothing for me. I drive like a baus. thing is, Seatllites, they can't drive in any conditions, but snow is the worst. So here I am in my beat down 96 ford escort, 2 wheel drive with bald tires. Somehow, I got people swerving everywhere around me, in Subarus. We got people sliding into the oncoming lane, crashes everywhere, but I finally make it to my motorpool. No one's there. I call my sergeant. "Hey, where's everyone at?" "Duty was cancelled due to snow, today. Forgot to call you, fell asleep. Don't worry about driving to post." "I'm already at the motorpool." "Well, grab some of the paperwork for the services and do that today, I want us all caught up."
