Caillou sucks. Just throwing that out there.

[–]patternfall 11 points12 points ago

You know what rocks? Dinosaur Train.

Me: So what's this dinosaur?
My Daughter: Ornithomimus!
Me: ... uh... what? That's right...

Jack's Big Music Show is great.
also, fuck Nihao Kailan. That show teaches kids to be shitheads. Every episode involves one of the characters losing their shit and either crying or getting violent because they don't get their way. Then everyone spends the rest of the show giving this character what they want and then everything is ok after that. Fuck that shit.

3 awesome parents in a row. Good to know someone other than my wife agrees with me! And my 2 1/2 year old son sings the dinosaur train song. Hes to damn cool

You know the girl who plays Caillou died right?

[–]mongzords 11 points12 points ago

When my little sister's teeth were growing she was in pain because of it. No amount of silly faces could cure her crying...I even did peek-a-boo man....

mum didn't like her to have a dummy (what we brits call pacifier) because with my younger brother he sucked his thumb until he was 13 and his front teeth became indented because of it and required braces to fix it.

[–]cyberbemon 3 points4 points ago

I always thought pacifier was used to make babies shut up, that's what they are used for here. (Ireland !), I have seen lots of mums putting this in their mouth the second they start crying. I feel sorry for those kids ! :(

[–]mongzords 2 points3 points ago

Some people think it encourages the kids to suck their thumbs/fingers at night and thus causing problems with their teeth when they are older. I see my mums point...I and my brother both sucked our thumbs until our teenage years, both of us wore braces because of our front teeth being indented outwards and both of us had a dummy.

Story of my life....

[–]jdennis011 10 points11 points ago

12 weeks go, I would have said "Man up!", now I feel your pain. Stay strong brother.

[–]Bobilip 4 points5 points ago

I don't think yelling "Are you not entertained!" at him will help either.

[–]ihatechu 1 point2 points ago

It's worth a try

[–]WhoLovesLou 1 point2 points ago

Oh man, do I know this one.

I've discovered there is ONE. ONE SONG. That will make my 1 year old stfu for 3 minutes. She has to watch the clip, too.

Have you tried Raffi, too? My daughter loves that shit.

I concur. My kid will only dance to David Bowie and Marilyn Manson.... She's awesome.

it's unfortunate how many parents (OP excluded?) fall to children's crying manipulation strategy years after it starts as an infant

"my super sweet 16" parents and the like...

i have a friend whose infant son was having fevers -which made him cry constantly, and her USMC command wouldnt let her have time to get him looked at and taken care of, and he ended up going deaf. imagine a child who can't hear his mother's voice or normal sounds, how scared they must be. THAT child cried on end for unbelievable amounts of time out of fear and confusion (probably pain too). they ended up being able to give him a surgical procedure, though, and he can hear again... luckily.

I still can't believe Gladiator won best picture.

[–]wojx 1 point2 points ago

It was moderately good, but not great. Go figure. The Academy doesn't always make sense.

Not sure if I upvoted because I like the post or because I like your username...

[–]Kateybits 1 point2 points ago

Your one-year-old is tired. Probably needs some cuddles. Sit him in your lap and read him a book!

[–]Crookward -1 points0 points ago

Try picking the kid up. Babies and toddlers get bored and they want interaction with another person.

[–]Redkitties 1 point2 points ago

That means he probably wants attention from you, not the tv. Children love attention, and if you don't give them enough then they have a chance when they're older they'll have attention issues and start problems in school and in the house hold. Be a good parent. Tv watching for children is bad, even when it's educational.

[–]LowPEZ 0 points1 point ago

Let the kid cry it out. Toughen em up. Easier said than done, I know.

[–]gmorales87 -5 points-4 points ago

Maybe try to take care of him and give him some attention instead of expecting cartoons and music to do everything. Just saying, that distracting him can be useful and you might be busy, but if those are your only methods of caring for him then that's not the best.

[–]MedicMehdi 3 points4 points ago

Why so serious?

[–]SmallDogWatcher 6 points7 points ago

Ever been responsible for looking after a baby/toddler for more than two minutes? Yeah, after a while you do call in reinforcements and no, it doesn't mean you're a bad parent/sitter if you let them watch a little show while you catch your second, third, and fourth wind.

[–]Kaminaree 6 points7 points ago

I have a four-year-old and a one-year-old. The four-year-old might be happy with the cartoons, but the one-year-old wants you, not TV. Show them some attention, calm them down and then try to do what you need to get done. Sometimes, though, it's not in the cards, shit's just not going to get done.

[–]SmallDogWatcher 0 points1 point ago

Very true...been there, done that.

[–]philonius 0 points1 point ago

The American Academy of Pediatricians recommends that TV be considered toxic (their word) for children under 2 years.

[–]Crookward -1 points0 points ago

Spoken like a true person who has no kids and is not a parent.

[–]Triette -2 points-1 points ago

The whole point is that if all those things aren't working, maybe it's time to actually pay attention to your child instead of just trying to distract them with digital stuff.

[–]Vasov 1 point2 points ago

There are some unfounded assumptions being made here regarding the OP's parenting me thinks

[–]TomSellecksStash[S] 0 points1 point ago

You got that right.

[–]lurker_becomes_lurkd 0 points1 point ago

Sometimes you just have to pick your kid up and hold them. No amount of videos or music will help. Especially when they're teething they'll need extra care and attention.

[–]Triette -2 points-1 points ago

This makes me sad.

[–]philonius -2 points-1 points ago

1 year olds do not want TV and music. They want food, sleep, love, and a clean diaper.
