Sure if it weren't someone's solo project, I'd definately love a larger version with story and direction also graphics but for what it is, a free survival horror game I think it does good

as someone who shits themselves at some pretty light shit, when I played it, I fucking carked myself. Some people won't find it scary, sure, but I personally got the shit scared out of me, and will NEVER PLAY IT AGAIN.

Slender is probably not scary at all if you haven't read up on the legends. The jump-scares aren't what make the game so terrifying to me, it's the atmosphere and music. You feel helpless (and basically are) the whole time. Even sprinting feels slow. I guess if you're so thoroughly unimpressed with the game off the bat that immersion becomes a struggle, then I understand where you're coming from.

That's not fair at all. That's like saying "Oh, the reason you didn't like LOTR online had nothing to do with it being a meh MMO, it's because you never read all the Tolkien books!"

You could try hearing people out to see why they didn't like it instead of just blowing them off because clearly they're not a thuper therious fan like you. A good game is accessible, it should be fun and atmospheric without years of reading /x/ posts and watching Marble Hornets. Anyway, I've been reading about and watching Slenderman videos for years, and I still think this is an awfully hyped game.

In DayZ I get really scared, even though it's not a "horror game", because somewhere off in the mountains could be a sniper watching me while I crawl across this road while I'm periodically passing out from the zombie attack earlier. There's long, long, hours of slow building tension, then death comes quickly, silently, and mercilessly, and will almost never happen exactly the same way twice.
Slender is played by running wildly in a big circle, until I see Slender. Then I quickly stop seeing Slender. I move on. I'm not so much scared of and avoiding Slender as I am looking out for him as a giant Guitar Hero note that says "look away". Oh here's that note again! Looked away! Game won!

If I repeatedly run headfirst into him, and repeatedly get away completely fine just by looking at the 90% of my surroundings that aren't Slenderman, it's not scary anymore.

I understand the gripe with the gameplay, and I guess I could have worded it better, but for me, just knowing the Slenderman story along with the atmosphere of the game makes it creepy enough, or at least, it does for me.

If Slender had the same production level as DayZ, which do you think would be scarier? (For this example, I'm thinking that all the bugs are gone and or "easy" ways to get away--like simply looking away-- become more challenging as you progress)

I guess this was a mistake to say anything at all, I just wanted to say why it scares me and try to understand why it's not scary for some others. I'll shut up now.

I don't know if I hate you or your Grammar, but Slenderman is creepy, and the whole Slenderman thing existed way before the videogame and it's hype train came along. So if you guys would stop with the Slenderman submissions and meta-slender post, we would all have a more enjoyable and more original /r/gaming
