Aw music festivals are for looking dorky in public. Dance on, dad.

[–]Syn7axError 54 points55 points ago

...but don't bring your son along. He doesn't seem to want to be there.

[–]guitardan81 52 points53 points ago

That kids obviously being punished for something.

[–]emperorpotatoketchup[!] 12 points13 points ago

Probably got an A- in calculus

[–]rogers132 73 points74 points ago

Oh my goodness, I think that is my optometrist! I would be interested to know if this picture was taken anywhere near lethbridge. If so, that's definitely him.

[–]Mrkangaimroo 19 points20 points ago

You should talk to ThatOneJawa. He also left a comment in here somewhere.

[–]jingowatt 5 points6 points ago

Why do I get the feeling that there is a definite lack of Lethbridge electronic music festival goers who recognize that optometrist around here?

[–]noobprodigy 3 points4 points ago

Yes. This was at Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival 2012. This was at the Zodiac Stage (Pergola at Galt Gardens).

[–]MindCorrupt 3 points4 points ago

Be sure to tell him hes awesome.

[–]ursa_major13 462 points463 points ago

I'm glad he is having fun. The kid will realize one day how awesome his dad really is.

[–]hob196 78 points79 points ago

Being a Dad means you have different priorities.

I didn't understand what that actually meant at first. But as someone who is a year in: it changes your mind.

It literally changes the way your brain works.

Your child is the new reason. The way they smile, cry, depend on you. You want you to show them everything, It redefines your world.

In this new world what gets discarded is typically that stuff that people do because they want to 'fit in'. You no longer care what is 'in fashion'. Sure, it's still important to keep smart, keep your job, basic hygiene, etc... but suddenly everything too far beyond that is frankly insignificant. Ridiculous even.

That guy might actually be the most embarrassing dad ever, hell I doubt Sacha Baron Cohen could have nailed the look any better. He may have always been like that. But perhaps he's that way because he gives zero fucks whatever anyone thinks now he has a son.

edit: Since this seems to be getting attention may I point my fellow reddit dads to /r/daddit where all the hip and trendy reddit dads hang out (embarrassing or otherwise).

[–]freerangetrousers 14 points15 points ago

I feel like by not giving a fuck about fitting in parents help their child realise that fitting in isn't really an issue at all. Like my parents used to be super embarrassing, but they'd never force me to join in or anything , I just figured fairly quickly that they (dancing like idiots and not giving a fuck) were having a way better time than anyone trying to look normal and that not having fun didn't help anyone.

Subsequently I will now dance / do whatever I feel like if I think it will be fun. Boring people suck.

[–]ReallyTastySoup 8 points9 points ago

That was absolutely profound. Thank you for giving me that early pickup motivation. I needed that. :)

[–]dislikescats 3 points4 points ago

Exactly. And it's really difficult to explain to someone who's not experienced it for themselves. You simply just don't care about such things anymore. I'll do my best to not embarrass my kids in front of their friends someday but i'm not too worried about it either since I'm pretty sure it's part of my job.

[–]QAOP_Space 3 points4 points ago

My GF and I are trying for a baby now.... I can't wait :) been a year of trying so far :(

[–]pineapple09 9 points10 points ago

That man has some very fluid moves.

[–]MinnesotaMike29 31 points32 points ago

Agreed, puberty and intermittent counseling can change perceptions.

[–]WatchYourTone 9 points10 points ago

Absolutely. The kid doesn't even seem embarrassed. It's not like A Goofy Movie (goddamned that scene broke my heart).

[–]Wabsta 92 points93 points ago

Came here to say this. Why do people keep making fun of people having actual fun?

If it were my dad, I would be proud and "dance" with him.

[–]A_Loki_In_Your_Mind 26 points27 points ago

Because the cool people in films don't have fun doing that.

[–]ZuFFuLuZ 139 points140 points ago

As a teenager, you would go and dance with your dad in front of hundreds of people while being filmed? Yeah, riiight.

[–]lemmingsoup 81 points82 points ago

Being reminded that there are people who didn't have that kind of relationship with their parents makes me so unhappy. My dad can dance if he wants to, he can leave my friends behind etc.

[–]AceDecade 29 points30 points ago

Cause your friends don't dance and- oh...

[–]HallucinogenicToad 4 points5 points ago

[–]Honda_TypeR 11 points12 points ago

...and if they dont dance... They no dad of mine!

[–]Wishgranter 28 points29 points ago

My mom once wrestled a stuffed alligator in walmart when i was a teenager. I was the narrator explaining how she was about to jam her thumb up its butthole.

[–]burek_japrak -1 points0 points ago

Kloeka*

[–]Wishgranter 3 points4 points ago

You are very right correct. Though i was actually making a south park joke. :P

[–]meanderingmalcontent 5 points6 points ago

Furthermore, never pick on anyone with a fanny pack. They likely have their concealed carry and that's where the gun is. This man may save your life one day.

[–]Syn7axError 6 points7 points ago

...but by the time he realizes that, his dad won't dance like that anymore.

That seems to be something I see all the time with grandparents. If experience says anything, the dad doesn't mind his kid thinking of him as an embarrassment, because his dad thought the same to his dad.

[–]CitizenPremier 4 points5 points ago

The hell he won't. He's not going to stop dancing because he's 50 or 60.

[–]pungkrocker 3 points4 points ago

The kid is the one who is embarrassing.

[–]ThatOneJawa 179 points180 points ago

THIS IS MY OPTOMETRIST!!! There was a electronic music festival in my town this weekend. This is wonderful.

[–]evilbob 29 points30 points ago

Time to make an appointment and show him this. First show the receptionist. She'll love it.

[–]starburst443344 6 points7 points ago

Lethbridge...?

[–]noobprodigy 4 points5 points ago

LEMF 2012 :)

[–]CharonP1 6 points7 points ago

Now run home ThatOneJawa. Run home as fast as you can!

[–]Timid_Pimp 5 points6 points ago

[–]CrabDome 9 points10 points ago

Proof!

[–]TisJokar 14 points15 points ago

[PROOF]

[–]noobprodigy 2 points3 points ago

I'm glad you made it by. We put a lot of work into making it happen. 2013 is already in the works.

[–]Emperor_Mao 25 points26 points ago

That man is a legend.....

[–]Masuchievo 5 points6 points ago

When I am that old and have a kid I want to be like that man. The worst moustache ever (but at least he has one, more people need moustaches!) socks all the way up but I would top it off with some sandals instead.

[–]threwahway 16 points17 points ago

Looks like he is having fun to me. He probably has a teenager and made a day of it. Fuck yeah dad!

[–]CottageMcMurphy 86 points87 points ago

"Skrillex had just taken the stage when the acid kicked in..."

[–]jakesnake08 41 points42 points ago

"that nice man over there gave me a sour patch kid!"

[–]kingbarnabyjones 12 points13 points ago

Skrillex on Acid? I'd rather shoot myself in the face..

[–]C_T_C_C 3 points4 points ago

I'm curious whether Skrillex does anything other than smoke & drink. I have friends who have spent a good bit of time with him, and they said that aside from the crazy hair and incomprehensible music, he was a pretty mellow dude and wasn't really looking for trouble.

[–]MindCorrupt 3 points4 points ago

*Aphex Twin

[–]iamnotseanclark 27 points28 points ago

It gets funnier the longer you watch it

[–]tastethelink 21 points22 points ago

Five minutes and I think I've got the dance down. Gonna bust it out at the next rave, it's sure to be a hit!

[–]doyduhdoh 2 points3 points ago

Be sure to wear the socks!

[–]PacoDiBango 9 points10 points ago

Damn if my dad was cool enough to take me to electronic festivals...

[–]cantfindthekeyboard 17 points18 points ago

This reminds me of my own dad so much.

[–]MrJimmeh 5 points6 points ago

Didn't see one comment on this man's fanny pack, I am disappoint for it is glorious

[–]Future_Garage 6 points7 points ago

I don't know what you're talking about. This guy is busting a move!

[–]doyduhdoh 23 points24 points ago

The purpose of an electronic music festival is to dance and have fun listening to electronic music. Not to photograph people at the festival and judge them according to your tiny little turd of a brain.

You are a bad person and you should feel bad.

[–]erryday_IAm_rustling 17 points18 points ago

Some of your previous comments indicate you derive humor from objectifying people. I must ask you to kindly get off that horse you're on and wallow in the shit with the rest of us.

[–]doyduhdoh 6 points7 points ago

ok.

[–]UncleGooch 4 points5 points ago

I don't hear any wallowing! Wallow!

[–]Gdave21 12 points13 points ago

Idk what is funnier. How the dad is dancing or how much the kid wants to kill himself.

[–]topFUCKINGpercentage 8 points9 points ago

He's down with the "beats" and all cool grooves nowadays.

[–]theMCL 3 points4 points ago

If anything I think the kid is lame for Not dancing with this clearly awesome dad

[–]SniperFists 5 points6 points ago

He knows exactly what he's doing.

[–]AwareButAloof 3 points4 points ago

Hey, he's having a great time. Leave him alone.

[–]iLander99 5 points6 points ago

His chin and 'stache make him look like Freddie Mercury. Dance on, Daddy Mercury!

[–]zeppelinled99 9 points10 points ago

Is it weird that the song I was listening to synced up perfectly with it?

[–]Curious_Ape 4 points5 points ago

Mine too. There seems to be several gifs that work like that.

[–]Curious_Ape 2 points3 points ago

[–]Chet_Awesomelad 4 points5 points ago

[–]someweirdguy 4 points5 points ago

[–]kacperp 8 points9 points ago

I would rather try: "The coolest dad ever" He took him to fuckin electronic music festival. How awesome is that when he's so young? And he's having good time. That is amazing!

[–]Ologn 2 points3 points ago

Yeah seriously. As a kid I was sometimes embarrassed to be with my dad when he would take me to monster truck shows or rock shows or whatever.

You know what put that shit in perspective? Almost none of the friends I have ever had their dad take them to something like that.

[–]Tyaedalis 6 points7 points ago

Freddie Mercury? He came back?!

[–]XscreaminggummybearX 2 points3 points ago

Thats what i was thinking! He looks like a dad-a-fied Freddie Mercury.

[–]Maeur1 3 points4 points ago

Saw this gif with gangum style in the background, and it kinda fits in quite well.

[–]Maeur1 7 points8 points ago

[–]Modwalker 2 points3 points ago

Best dad ever. Even better is that the son will later do it to his own child and think back to that day and laugh.

[–]mackpack 2 points3 points ago

Music festivals are all about having fun, I don't see how this is embarrassing.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points ago

The title should read: "Seen at an electronic music festival: The most awesome dad ever."

[–]Toasted_Polar_Bear 4 points5 points ago

idk who is rolling harder

[–]whatmelurk 2 points3 points ago

[–]tarraaa 2 points3 points ago

More like awesome.

[–]RoshoFTMFW 1 point2 points ago

Not once in 24 years have I ever been ashamed of the goofy crap my dad does. He's always going to be a bad ass in his 80's MC Hammer pants. Fucking love my dad.

[–]twistmental 1 point2 points ago

[–]Jabullz 1 point2 points ago

Wow. He had really got black thocks on. I thought this was legend.

[–]purevanity 1 point2 points ago

What festival was this from? Even our day events here in SoCal are 18+ now.

[–]noobprodigy 4 points5 points ago

This was at Lethbridge Electronic Music Festival. I am the main organizer. We held it in a park downtown, so we were eligible for a grant from the city. Since it was in a park, we couldn't charge cover, and it was open to the general public. It was a great mix of adults, young people, families, etc. This was the first year of the event and we are going to make it annual. The city was so impressed with how it turned out that they have asked me to organize their Canada Day festivities (similar to Independence Day) in that park. They have two parks with things going on, and this one has been seeing declining attendance for Canada Day. The other one is the main party and where the fireworks are at the end of the night.

[–]macguan 0 points1 point ago

Deputy Dewey?

[–]sprkng 1 point2 points ago

I wish I had kids, so I could do this to them.

[–]lave_las_aletas 1 point2 points ago

[–]CitizenPremier 0 points1 point ago

Damnit Dad, how can you listen to this wub wub shit...

[–]GlenThen 1 point2 points ago

[–]Hotrootsoup 0 points1 point ago

If only he knew how incredibly badass and cool looking his dad is. I'm sure I would be embarrassed in that situation too, but I sure wouldn't make fun of the kid for it, I'd just start dancing alongside the dad, mirroring his dance moves.

[–]YazoBeats -1 points0 points ago

I DON'T CARE !!!!!

[–]Sometimes_i_like_pie 0 points1 point ago

Play 'Return of the Mack' in the background..

[–]XXXMasonXXX 0 points1 point ago

[–]routari -1 points0 points ago

It is a bit embarrassing, but it really shouldn't be. When did we all become such cynical douches scared of being different from cunts and retards.

[–]EdMcMuffin 0 points1 point ago

He can dance if he wants to.

[–]resident_ginger 1 point2 points ago

Attack of the fanny pack

[–]CitizenBraime 0 points1 point ago

Does this remind anyone else of the dance that the Man from Another World does in the Red Room (from Twin Peaks)?

[–]DatHemroid 1 point2 points ago

I think it's sweet. He's obviously having a great time, good on the bastard. :)

[–]knightsnyder 1 point2 points ago

[–]oahayder 0 points1 point ago

[–]Lightsaber117 1 point2 points ago

I was at that music festival! Holy shit! LEMF was awesome. and beleive there were wierder people than that guy. :P

[–]Henman84 0 points1 point ago

My dad once won a dance contest at the age of 68.

[–]TXrichard 1 point2 points ago

If this isn't a reminder for everyone to pick up the phone and thank their dad for all the (at the time) weird embarrassing shit they did, then I don't know what is.

Also say you love him.

[–]Micoha 0 points1 point ago

I was listening to this when I clicked the link. Seemed fitting (gif sound mashup)

[–]mahmudkips 0 points1 point ago

I'd be embarrassed too, if my father were to listen electronic music.

[–]Frigidus_Appellatio 0 points1 point ago

Just wait until my son is old enough to be embarrassed... you aint seen nothin yet

[–]Just_another_sith 1 point2 points ago

[–]GoddessMercy 0 points1 point ago

At least he has a Dad! Lots of kids don't have a parent that hang with them...and embarrassing or not..at least he's not hungover on the couch putting his kid in front of the TV. Being a parent really does change the way you think about things. Up vote for you, for posting this, because it made people think. :)

[–]pair-o-dice_found 0 points1 point ago

I took my son to a Metallica concert, wearing business casual. And he thought I was the most embarrasing dad ever.

[–]brassninja 0 points1 point ago
